Dinner Buffet?

I know there's a buffet for Pirate night (but it's not till much later on)... I swear I read something about the buffet at Cabana's being partially opened for dinner each night. Are they?

Cabanas is open except for the 1st and last night of your cruise, but it is a table service restaurant at night. From what I understand in addition to the table service there is a salad bar and a carving station availble also.

This is correct. It is table service at dinner instead of a buffet. DW and I once dined most of our dinner meals in Cabanas on one cruise. We really enjoyed ourselves and the view watching the sunset which cannot be done from the 3 MDRs.

I think even the Pirate's night buffet is very limited. I don't recall hearing about it, or seeing it, on Pirate's night.

IMHO you didn't miss anything but a feeding frenzy. I'd skipped it on my two previous cruises, and in Feb decided to check it out. And promptly left - well as soon as I could free myself from the hordes acting like they'd been kept below and starved for the entire voyage to that point.

Actually, in our experience, it's not much more than a taco bar. After wading through all the people there we only found taco fixings and dessert. This was on the Wonder, don't know if it's different/bigger on the Fantasy & Dream (we didn't do the buffet on pirate night on our cruises).

We did it once. Were in there for about 5 minutes before we pushed through the ravening hordes to the aft elevators and retreated to the quiet, liquid confines of deck 4.

The pirate night buffet had taco bar, turkey legs, carved ham, lots of fruit and fresh crepes for dessert. We thought it was fun to check out, although all we had were the crepes since we were still full from dinner.

Of course everyone was starving... such a shortage of food on cruise ships..

We went to the pirate buffet for the first time on our last cruise just to see what we were missing. We of course weren't hungry, and they were getting ready to close. We had crepes and icecream and really enjoyed them

OP, you might have previously read that Cabanas did offer a buffet for dinner because last year when the Magic was in the Mediterranean a buffet dinner was offered for just a few of the 12 nights. The remaining nights had table service dining.

The Pirate's night buffet is extensive and a lot of fun, and crowded. I can confirm the jammed crowd of folks there, merely as a function of trying to feed everyone at once in a buffet facility made for a much slower crowd flow. We have seen enough fireworks that we head for the buffet during the fireworks, and find no lines, fresh food, and plenty of seating.

So much food to choose from: salads, cakes, crepes, turkey legs, tacos, breads, muffins, sliced fruits (and a great fruit display), carved ham, rice & beans, baked potatoes, cheesecakes, pecan tarts, whole fruits, chicken tenders, chili, cookies......don't let anyone tell you it is "just" some limited menu, they obviously weren't paying attention...it is really great fun. But, be prepared for a noisy, hungry crowd (you would think they missed dinner that evening), all having a party-ish time. Savor it as another facet of the cruise experience.

When we were there, yes. Most recently a couple of months ago on the Fantasy.

Is the menu the same (at Cabana's) as the main dining rooms each night? or is it different food? I'm thinking it might be nice to skip a meal and watch the sunset while we eat... we only did a 3 night on the Dream so we didn't have much of a chance to discover this Thanks!

They pull a few items from the other MDRs menus for the Cabanas dinner menu. So, it's basically the same (menu) food. But the carving station and salad bar fresher.
