Hello! I have been saddened by the accounts of the lower quality at Chef Mickey's. I had been planning on trying to get an adr for this mostly because of the ice-cream bar with all the lovely toppings, but we also would like a nice meal before, kwim? So, can anyone recommend a nice dinner buffet with an even better dessert bar?

Crystal Palace used to have an ice cream machine with toppings, but I haven't eaten there in a while... Maybe you can confirm that somewhere.

I've like the pie/ice cream desert at the Liberty Tree Tavern, plus it's all you can eat. Believe me, I love my deserts, a little too much.

I know Crystal Palace had it in November, but frankly, none of the "make your own X bars" are anything special in and of themselves. There will be 2 types of ice cream and 6-8 standard toppings--the same can be said of the omelet bar at Boma, the pasta bar at Riverside Mill, the yogurt bar at Cape May, etc. I mean they're all fine as part of a meal, but not extraordinary by themselves. Go for the overall experience, not one thing.

have a dole whip for lunch and go for the wishes dessert party for dinner... best desserts on property (but no ice cream)!!!!

i recall hollywood & vine having some pretty decadent desserts... and self-serve ice cream :)

Chef Mickey had a terrible ice cream. It was extremely runny and not creamy at all, more like a meltly ice milk type of thing. I did however have great ice cream at the buffet at 1900 Park Fare, very creamy.

When we ate dinner at Chef Mickey's last May, it was ice cream soup, not ice cream. My 3 year old wouldn't even eat it. The rest of the desserts and the salads were good. The rest of the food was really nasty and the restaurant was filthy. When we went back to WDW in December, DD didn't even want to eat at Chef Mickey's. We were just talking today about where to eat our next trip, and she said "How about that place where Mickey has a Chef's hat?" I said "Remember the food and the ice cream there?" She thought about it a minute and said "EWW Let's not go there. Let's go to the Pooh Restaurant". Crystal Palace does have an ice cream machine with good ice cream. They have some shakers with sprinkles. They usually have some other good desserts out too.

Thank you everyone for the replies. I am seriously considering Crystal Palace, and am even thinking of going also to Trail's End. Any opinions on that restaurant?

If you want a nice dessert bar, then CP is a favorite of ours. We don't go for the desserts but it is one of those places where it is set up so nicely you just cant help yourself but to have some ;)

Now Trails End gets rave reviews from the UG team. They discussed it on a recent podcase (WDW Today) over the course of the last week or so. I have never been there, but they certainly tempted me and it is fairly reasonably priced as far as Disney TS meals go.

The thing about the ice cream machines is that you can have great ice cream one time and "soup" the next at the same place. Sometimes the supply just can not keep up with the demand. I agree that none of the buffets are worth going to just for the ice cream bar. Choose the place you like based on all the food choices and the characters. Cheif Mickey's is one of our least favorites.

I will jsut toss in that CM was totally not worth the time or effort when we went last September. The buffet was severely lacking in choices and beyond that, was rarely refilled. H&V was good, and we're giving CP a try this trip.
