is there alot of entertainment on the boardwalk during evening hours AND can we hang out and watch/participate if we are not staying at the resort??

My DD and I really enjoy the BW and you don't have to be staying there to do so, in fact, you can go to any resort on property and not have to be a guest. I think you would like the BW because there is a lot to do as far as entertainment they have a lot going on. Plus, it is very relaxing and peaceful compared to the hustle and bustle of the parks. You can even walk around the bay to the BC and YC and use the swimming pool if you want they have a 3 acre pool that is a lazy river and they have a waterslide. We have gone there numerous times and nobody says any different.

IMO: I think the boardwalk has alot to offer. It has something to offer everyone. There are a ton of entertainers that walk along the boardwalk (comedians, jugglers, magicians), there is face painting. They have some boardwalk games, great shops, good icecream and you can just people watch if you wanted to. Also, its a great location to watch illuminations.

Yes you can hangout on the boardwalk. Spoodles is great to eat at, they have good sangria.

How crowded does the Boardwalk get? What times do you recommend going? I'm trying to plan a trip that doesn't get my un-disney DH frazzled over the crowds. I think we can take a break to the Boardwalk when the parks get busy.

It's really not too bad. Some weekend nights, the clubs are somewhat full, but it usually is pretty lowkey.

As for what is there, the ESPN Club is a good place to grab a beer and watch a game. Atlantic Dance and Jellyrolls are really fun clubs. Plus, it's just fun to wander around and sit on the lake.

If you want something more "up tempo", hop over to the Swan and Dolphin and go to blueZoo. Really cool sushi bar.
