Dinner at Ohana

'Ohana used to be one of my favorite places to eat. We even held our wedding rehearsal dinner there in 2010 for 40 friends and family.

Unfortunately, it is not what it once was. We ate there for dinner last month (following a 6 or 7 year break) and I left feeling disappointed. The noodles and dumplings were OK, but they were very slow in bringing requested refills. The meats were not great, especially for the price of the meal. They dropped a bowl of each on the table and ran off. The beef was soooo overdone and tough and again, they were super slow to return with requested medium-rare. Chicken was OK, but nothing great. And the shrimp sat untouched because we don't care for shrimp. Such a waste of food and if they had asked us first, we would have declined. I liked it more when they circulated around the room with skewers so that you could pick what you wanted and it was usually hot and fresh. My husband ate only a few bites of dessert (the kids and I don't care for it).

This is a pricey place to eat, although we knew that going into it. I really wanted to love it as much as I used to. I don't think we'll return any time soon.

Dinner restaurants that hit it out of the park for us last month:

- Narcoossee's (except that the food came out way too fast and we felt rushed)

- Steakhouse 71 (great food and service)
This makes me so sad! I was really looking forward to our meal there for spring break, but not so sure I want to spend the money now. I also really liked when they would come around with skewers, disappointing that they ended that and can see how that would impact the quality.

For 'Ohana, are reservations almost necessary? We were planning to aim for Black Friday (11/28). Thanks in advance!

In the past they were not only necessary, but really hard to get. Not sure if that has changed recently or not, but yes, I would recommend an ADR.

However people feel about the food ( I hate it and it’s expensive! I love it and hope I’ve space for dessert!) there is always strong demand for this restaurant’s ADR.

You should expect that will be a tough ADR to get, especially over a popular holiday weekend. Hopefully, you're staying onsite several days before the 28th and can use the 60+several days rule to book an ADR! Good luck!
