Dining which to avoid

So subjective to each individuals taste, but we absolutely avoid:

Bengal BBQ-we do a lot of BBQ at home and find this place pretty poor on all offerings, tried it twice to make sure-never again.

Captain Kidds-ate there once, never again.

Wine Country Trattoria-have had three meals there (tried to see if it was just bad the one time-it wasn't for us), problems every time with food and service and how management handled it-never again.

:lmao: And I love La Brea!! Well, La Brea Express. I think they have good sandwiches. And I like their coffee. Lol

We love their breakfasts too!

Everyone has different tastes. Many people really love Pacific Warf, last time I was there I got the broccoli cheddar soup. There were nothing but broccoli stems in it, yuck!

Tomorrow Land Terrace wasn't great last time we were there either.

I know I'm in the minority here but Blue Bayou. I had the worst steak I've ever had there (including the place that used to be a few blocks from my house that was something like 6.95 for a steak, baked potato, and salad). It was literally unchewable even it was so grisley and tough - and it cost $40!

While the food wasn't great we liked Pizza Port because they have it set up so that it was very quick to get through the line despite being a crowded day and the food was decent enough to meet our expectations for that type of place - whether a place is to be avoided or not depends on what you're looking for and what your priorities are.

As with everything, it will depend on taste. Some people love Cafe Orleans, my family did not care for it. Some think Blue Bayou is over rated, we loved it. I have seen rave reviews on Pizza Port, we will never go there again. It is going to be really about your tastes and the value you put on your money. For example, we went to a place in Toon Town on our first trip. It was hot dogs(can't remember the name for the life of me). But, the hot dogs tasted worse than the cheap ones you get at a gas station and we spent $40. We will never go there again. But, I am sure there are others that will.

I have to agree about Toon Tow. Worst turkey sandwich ever. The bread was so dry that it was impossible to swallow, and the "turkey" seemed like processed turkey roll, all slimy and salty. Yuk.

I agree with TLT. There are way better places to eat! I also avoid the Pizza Port for the same reason. We tried Village Hause for the first time last month and we all enjoyed it. We really liked the chicken sausage, blt pizza, and pastrami burger.

Outside of the park, stay away from Captain Kidds. It has gotten a lot of very bad reviews.

I am one that takes reviews just the the op, i read all the bad reviews about this place and decided to go any way, hay its a all you can eat, and its cheap!.
My opinion of reviews is like a menus, you pick and chose what sounds good.
Capt Kidd's was exactly like what I thought it was going to be, cheap and the food was hot, and that's the high point. Its like what you would get at a free full breakfast from a three star hotel/motel. Eggs, where fresh, scrambled and hot and the bread was not stail right there pay for my 5.99. The links where ok i think, and the cinnamon rolls i think where ok. Would i recommend it, no not to a group of adults. But if you are with a group with kids, starving kids and passing buy you could do worse.

Does anyone ever take their food back? If I can't eat it I am not paying for it.

Everyone always says which restaurants to go to- but i want to know which restaurants or counter service to avoid- if not the whole place which items :) Planning on being in park first week of Feb, last time i have been to Dland was 1999 so pre- California Adventure. It will be Me, DH and DD5. THX :bitelip:

Any time a restaurant has "Pizza" in the title, avoid the Pizza. If a restaurant doesn't have "Pizza" in the title, and they serve Pizza, it's pretty good.

I really hated Village Haus which is sad because I love the Pinocchio theming. Burger was cold and my fiancées chicken sausage was not very good (according to him). Our last trip we avoided most counter service burger places as enjoyed all the food (Esp Plaza Inn YUM) but I realize that's not always a reality for lots of families. It sure wasn't for mine growing up.

This is true. I like the food there but best to try and eat there at an off time. Seating is hard to come by.

Agree with Tomorrowland Terrace. Awful. And I really don't like Tortilla Jo's. Bad, bad, bad. And, I will probably get boo'd for this but I hate Goofy's Kitchen. Maybe it was the time we went but the food was cold and over all a big waste of money. Characters were fun but it still was your standard, not so great, buffet food. (We went for dinner). Actually, I think all the character meals are pretty bad. Except Storytellers. LOVE Storytellers for breakfast. They have great food.

I agree 100% about TJ's and GK, bad, bad, bad. lol And we didn't even have fun with the characters at GK because only 3 came to our table. It was bad.

I'm surpirsed how many people don't like Tomorrowland Terrace. I remember liking the food there! The had a BBQ burger I really liked. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there (or anywhere other than BB or a WoC dining place) but if I was in the area I'd definitely eat there.

At any rate, I'd skip Carthay Circle. Service was way too slow and eating into our park time. Also, we thought the seats were uncomfortable.

There's a BBQ burger at TLT? lol I don't remember that at all. lol We usually eat burgers at Taste Pilot's because DBF and I like the Wild Bleu Yonder burger, and we add our own BBQ sauce to the burger with lots of pickles and onion. :) I can't even tell you the last time we ate at Hungry Bear. LOL
I disagree with CCTR, we had a great time and our seats were cushy. Yes, it took us a while to eat but it is supposed to, it's the equivalent of DLR's BB, both take 60-90 for a full meal experience.

When we ate at Captain Kidd's I had a salad, my lettuce was so old it was wilted and alternated between brown and clear (clear lettuce is not ok), the cucumbers were OK after I rehydrated them in my salad dressing, the grape tomatoes were good, the cheese was good and the croutons were edible, that was all I ate, I picked all that out and didn't eat any of the lettuce because it was so disgusting. DBF had the buffet, everything on the buffet had been sitting so long it was hard and gross, think overcooked. The girls kids meals were edible (and free due to a promotion they were doing) but nothing great, DBF and I complained to our server, I was told "sorry, that's all the lettuce we have" and DBF was told "you're here between shifts, we haven't finished restocking the buffet yet" and that was it, no sorry, no offer to bring us something else off the menu, nothing. We asked for a manager and we were told there was no one on site so we left, yes we paid for our crappy food and then DBF and I got snacks when we went back to DL. Snacks like popcorn and pretzels. Never again.

Tomorrowland Terrace was hands down the worst food we have eaten in or around Disneyland. It was gross and cold and just yuck. The Pizza Port was pretty gross too.

Thx for the replies. I realize taste is subjective but knowledge is power in my book ;) keep them coming!

Aaarrrrgggghhhhh! Ye mean Captain Kruds - where the motto is "Dead Men Tell No Tales".

DH made that one up 5 years ago during our first trip. Still cracks me up! Yes - DON'T fall for their cheap buffet. We only went because DH is cheap and loves buffet. I ordered off the menu and was the only one with a decent meal.

When I saw the title of this thread I thought, oh this is going to get interesting. I decided not to post on it. Today, I am reading the replies and have to post. :rotfl:

"One man trash is another man's treasure," I suppose can apply to restaurants as well.

We LOVE Pizza Port. It's probably one of our favorite places in the resort to eat. Lucky Fortune Cookery is probably my favorite place inside DCA for quick service. And the fruit platter at TLT is fantastic!

I personally have never cared for Carnation Cafe, while I know some here love it.

I think you just have to find your own likes throughout the resort and know that if you ask 50 people, you will get at least 40 different answers. The great news is, there's so many places to pick from that you too can find a favorite place to avoid of your own. :goodvibes

And I thought 1992 was a good vintage for lettuce. ;

During this last trip, Hungry Bear was horrible. This is with their "New" menu.

I can't recommend Blue Bayou for the food. I consider it on par with Sizzler or Golden Corral but costs $50 per person. It's not bad, but definately not worth the price. HOWEVER, the ambiance can not be beat and I do recommend that everyone do it at least once....and make sure to ask for a water side table. If they only offer a table close to the entrance, just leave.

I also consider Goofy's Kitchen a straight-up rip off as well. Insane prices, forced gratuity for any size party, mediocre food, scarce 2nd rate characters.

i know I am going to be one of the few here LOL:rotfl2:, but the whips!. Just to much pineapple:confused3

I would just like to say that the new Village Haus menu is a LOT better. The kids' cheese pizza was DELICIOUS.

The last time we went we didn't have anything negative happen at any of the places we ate :)

Does anyone ever take their food back? If I can't eat it I am not paying for it.

I did this once a few trips ago. I returned a Cinnamon Roll to River Bell Terrace. It was hard, dry, and the frosting was all plasticy. They took it back no problem. I WOULD NOT have eaten it, it would have gone right in the garbage can. Why pay for something that is not edible.

We went on our last trip before the remodel. First people gave us dirty looks because they thought we were cutting(we had reservations.) Then it was so cramped. The food was just ok. We wouldn't have went back if they hadn't remodeled and added to the menu. So we are going to try again this trip. Keeping fingers crossed.
