Is it possible to request, either before we depart or after we board, a table for just the two of us?

Yes, but your chances of getting one are almost nil.

How about for 4? I hesitate to subject anyone to my unruly children. But seriously, do they honor requests for tables for 4?

I actually never saw any tables for 2 (except in Palo), so I'd guess if there are any, there are VERY few of them. I requested and received a table of 4 for my family, I also didn't want to subject others to my unruly crew!!!

We were able to request a table for 2, however we didnt get it. This is probably my only complaint about DCL, them not having tables for 2. While it may not be a big deal for some, for people like myself, it is. It didnt ruin the cruise by any means, we still had a blast, but it did make dinner time less enjoyable for us. Thank God for Palos. ;)

You know, this is one of the BIG reasons why DH and I have decided not to take a cruise by ourselves without our kids. We figure if we can't have dinner alone and enjoy ourselves, it isn't worth it. We have been able to get a table just for 4 for our family of four (well one year we were seated at a table for 8, but this was the week after 9/11 and a lot of people canceled their trip and no one ever showed up for that table).

I too wish they would allow seating for just two. We have thought about going and just not going to dinner (eating pizza or room service), and we might do that for a 3 day cruise one year. It is too bad that Disney can't accomadate couples. One of my biggest disappoints ever on the cruise was the one afternoon the DH and I decided to have a romantic lunch at Tritan's (kids went to the Kid's Club). We even told the servers that seated us that we were so excited because we were actually alone for lunch. Within 15 minutes of our 'romantic' lunch two college girls were seated with us. Very nice girls, but not the romantic lunch we were hoping for (and DH and I never get to be alone, we live far from family and have never used a babysitter--we just go out as a family, so this day was going to be really special).

Anyway, I agree, it would be nice if we could go and enjoy the cruise and be seated at a table for two.

I was really hoping to have a table for two as it will be ukangel's and my honeymoon.

Do Disney use common sense when allocating seating? If they can't allocate a table for two will they put two couple together? or is it known for a couple to put on a table with an entire family? This I would find totally unacceptable.

We have booked on to the later dinner sitting on the hope we avoid a lot of children.

Any suggestions?

I booked my cruise through DVC and discussed with them the table situation. They said they definetly try to put families with families and adults with adults.

Although I do love children, I can't imagine what it would be like dealing with someone else's during dinner time on a relaxing cruise.

I know you can put in a request - not a guarantee (which I have done) to sit alone with just your respective party. For me there are three of us (all adults) and the two guests I am bringing along have never really traveled (imagine that!) and are apprehensive as it is. I told them there is a strong possibility we will be eating with others, but I intend to try and change if that's not the case which you do usually at the same time as Palo reservations on embarkation day.

I too don't understand why they don't accomodate these requests. Not to sound mean, but I deal with clients and ppl all year long and have very little time to be with me and my fiancee alone due to our heavy work schedules. I am not going on the cruise to meet ppl - really to spend it with him. However I think this is consistent throughout the cruise industry.

Good luck and enjoy your cruise.

Also (sorry I am so long) westjones - I wouldn't skip the meals. You paid for that and there's a far cry between pizza and steaks/seafood. Not telling you what to do of course - you have to be comfortable, but that sounds like a last resort.

My only request was NO kids under 13. That was granted, we (DH, teen Ds and myself) were seated with another couple and their teenage daughter.

My husband and I just sailed on the 1/23 Wonder cruise. We had requested a table for two at dinner because we were celebrating our 15th anniversary. The first night (which was our anniversary)we dined in Palo. The second night we were seated at a table for four and the person that seated us took away the extra chairs. I was just commenting to my husband that we had gotten our table for 2 as requested when another couple came up. I heard the lady say to the server that there must be some mistake. They had eaten alone the first night. We quickly informed her that we had been at Palo the night before. We introduced ourselves and got to talking about the cruise and found out that they were traveling with their grown children and grandchildren and other extended family members. They had requested not to be seated with their family because they see them all the time. They wanted to be seated alone. When they got their KTTW cards they discovered that they were seated with their family. They then requested to be moved from their table and they were put at ours. This tells me that we originally would have had the table to ourselves if they had not made this change. Oh well, we did enjoy the conversation with the couple and got directions for some stops we wanted to make in Orlando(they were from Orlando).

We requested a table alone for our 1/5 Wonder and did get it. I think it depends on how full the ship is. We did not have a full ship.

Good luck.

We landed at a table for 4 on our 3-day Wonder cruise last Sept.
However we had no table mates. I am assuming they liked Palos or dinner in there room or...I don't know. But our server never saw them and we never saw them. We did dine with Mickey on the last night...Actually it belonged to the young girl at the next table who just couldn't put him on the floor while she ate. So we invited him to dine with us. She was much happier with that option.

Some recent posters said that Disney doesn't seem to be doing this as much as they used to unless they actually get a request from the guest. My suggestion would be to call DCL directly, or have your TA call them, and have them place a request on your reservation for a table for 4, no children. We requested a table for 4 and were seated with another couple about our same age.

good luck,
Julie

We are a family of 5 traveling the end of this July (busy time of the year). Just wondering the most likely table set up for us........

would it likely be just our family? (hopefully yes) or
would it be at a larger table with another family?

My fear is of some poor adult couple having to sit with us as my DS 9 has less than beautiful table manners. (despite my constant hounding/encouragement/begging/bribing:D ) AND my DD 12 is....shall we say "curious" and has difficulty putting a cork in it when visiting with new people!!! DD 6 probably would be the least trouble of the 3.

Our last cruise we didn't make any requests except for the second seating. Our family (with 2 teenage sons) was at a table of 4, right next to another table of 4 with 2 teenagers. Although there was only about a foot between the tables we still felt like we were seated apart and didn't have to include them in all our conversations. It was nice to see the same people every night though and ask them how their day had been. I had just assumed that Disney had taken into consideration the ages of our children and had decided the 2 families would get along.

Hilltopfamily--I am cracking up at your post! Ihave a 6 yo who is...yeah...curious and doesn't even HAVE a cork to stop her up!

I must say that I too would hesitate to cruise on Disney without my kids, because I would HATE to be travelling alone with my DH and have to deal with other people's kids at dinner. (This from a mom of three good kids, mind you.) I don't even care if they were the most delightful perfectly behaved children on the planet. When I spend a lot of money to get away from my kids with DH I sure don't want to hang out with anyone else's kids.

Which is a bummer, because given the choice I would do only Disney vacations if not for that detail.

How many nights can you eat at Palo anyway!:p

On our back to back we're bringing DS (who will be 18 at the time) for the first week, but then he's going home and we're going to be solo for the second.

I have no problem being seated with a family on the solo part, as long as there are no kids under 13. Of course when we are solo I would prefer to be seated with another couple, but a family with older teens is fine as well :)

I want to second what Cruise/Julie said about requesting a table for 4 -- I just called DCL to request "adults only", and the rep said the only request she could put in that would (most likely) result in adults only is a request for a table for 4, which would almost certainly end up with DH and I sitting with another adult couple. In the rep's opinion, any larger table would probably include a family of some sort.

Of course, my DH and I would prefer a slightly larger table, just in case we don't get along well with our tablemates (more people might increase the odds), but having no kids around is more important to us. Here's to hoping it all works out!
