My DH and I will be staying at AKV participating in the Disney Marathon in January. We are leaving the 5 kids with my parents for the long weekend, so it will just be the two of us. What restaurants would you recommend us trying. Our dining reservations always center around characters and kid friendly sites. That is not the case this time!

We would like to:

Friday - eat early dinner at a great Italian spot
Saturday - eat a big breakfast after 1/2 marathon (possibly Boma)
Saturday night - Eat a great meal somewhere special!

We aren't concerned about the costs or where the restaurants are located. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

The creme de la creme is going to be Victoria & Alberts.

Below that would be Bistro de Paris.

After that come the various signature restaurants, our favorite of which is Jiko, conveniently located in the AKL.

As far as I'm concerned, there isn't a great Italian spot in Disney. It's all varying degrees of Olive Garden quality. I hear Portobello's in Downtown Disney is much better than it used to be, though, so it's worth a shot. Like ther person above me said, Citricos might be a good alternative.

As for your other dinner, you're going to be in the Animal Kindgom Lodge area, so you might as well do Jiko. It's a great restaurant, so I doubt you'll be disappointed, and it's close to your room, so you can hit up a bar or two on property before or after and make a nice long night of it. All of the lounges in the two sections of the hotel are nice. You can't really go wrong with any of them.

You will have 2 really great options right at AKV. Sanaa (1 of my fav. all time Disney meals) & Jiko. This past Jan. we did Boma for breakfast on the Monday morning following the marathon. Great choice. Make an adr. This restaurant always seems busy.

Other suggestions are the signature restaurants Cali Grill, Artist Point & Yachtmans SH. Many people rave about Flying Fish. DH loved his meal & I was disappointed.

As for Friday night's meal there are many options at DTD. Portobello, WGP Express (DTD) or WGP Cafe (The Westside).

Enjoy the race. It's a fantastic time. This is our 5th year running.......Sue

Friday- That's a tough one. Are there any Italian places in Disney that you're visited before? I only ask because I would hate for your last pre-race meal to be awful or worse, make you ill for the race. Sometimes sticking to something tried and true is good.

Saturday AM- BOMA would be wonderful. You could go back to the room, take a shower and stuff your face. Sounds like an ideal way to celebrate your race!

Saturday PM- I vote for Jiko (Jambo) or Sanaa (Kindani). Jiko is my favorite restaurant at Disney, hands down. You might not want something so fancy, so Sanaa would be a nice alternative. There are dozens of great choices for dinner in the World, but if I were the one running the 1/2 (one day, I will!) I would want to stay close the room and turn in early.
