I've never heard this theory before! I doubt that it's true, because we've been on 2 cruises, without any children, and we've had a different dining rotation each time.
DCL does put you in certain rotations based on the make-up of your family, i.e, ages of children, etc. This has been discussed a few times on these boards.....it is not always 100% on the money but patterns do seem to form.
Sorry, but I do not know the rotations for the age groups but I do know many DIS'ers know....I am sure someone else will respond.

We had a 14, 12 and 10 and our rotation was LAPLAPA. Our tablemates had a 6, 4, & 2 year old. Don't know how Disney decided on the rotation nor the big age difference for the kids.
Although it is NOT guaranteed, the way they try to do it is:
Adults without kids start in Triton's/Lumiere's
Families with young kids start in Animators
Families with older kids start in Parrot Cay
Of course, it never works out that way 100 percent of the time because they have to go by the make-up of any particular passenger group. But take it from someone who has cruised Disney 28 times (29 next week!!!!)...those are definitely the general guidelines.
