Dining Reviews Sep 2008 & Feb 2009 Update 8/13 - Complete!

Love the Boma review! I switched us to AKL and am taking advantage of having Boma so convenient to us. We have 2 breakfast ADRs and one dinner. ;) Dinner looks delish.

If I stayed at AKL, (which I'd love to do, but right now, it's spend more on a resort, or stay more days, and days always wins,) I'd be eating at Boma every night. Well, almost every night.

I've never had breakfast there, but am going to someday. Maybe on an AK day, but now that Tusker House has a breakfast buffet, it's out of the way. Still it's something I want to try, so someday.

We are doing TH too for the characters. Since we have the DxDDP I figured it's a good use of our credits since it's right there.

Tusker House is really good for breakfast, that is actually the next table service I'll be reviewing.

We had lunch at Tusker house recently (no ADR's -just waited maybe 10 minutes) at AK and absolutely loved it! I fell in love with cous-cous .

Great reviews.

I love Boma; their crab bisque is delicious.

I ate breakfast there and it was good, but I much prefer dinner.

Their crab bisque is another one of my favorite soups there. That, the butternut squash soup, and now the carrot-ginger soup too. And the coconut-curry soups, I like them a lot too, I just like the other three slightly better.

Boma looks great. We have never been before but have an ADR for our first night. I am sure that DH & DD will REALLY love it. Thanks!:thumbsup2

Since I'm halfway done my reviews, I thought I'd mix it up a little bit, and review the many drinks and snacks I had in Disney. This post will be dedicated to the drinks I had throughout my trip, and the next will be for snacks.

Note - Only the drinks I didn't have with a meal will be included, it makes no sense to rereview the drinks I had at Ohana and Yak and Yeti again.

Petals Pool Bar

044.jpg

This is an orange dream. I had this one day when I took a break between lunch and dinner. It's a mix of Skyy orange vodka and ice cream blended with Monin candied orange. This was great, tasted just like the Creamsicle popsicles I always had when I was a kid. I can't wait to go back and get another the next time I stay at Pop, though I believe this is available all over the World.

The bartender at Petals was pretty funny. She was having a little trouble with the machine, it was telling her to do something she had already done, like add ice or something, and she was getting frustrated with it. I know the feeling I always "yell" at the computer or whatever when it's not cooperating at my work, LOL, and she finally said something like a man must have designed it. (Sorry to all the men reading, but I thought that was hysterical.)

Territory Lounge

330.jpg

This is the huckleberry breeze drink. I can't recall what all was in it, and I can't find it on any of the menus online, but I believe it was some kind of berry vodka. It was quite good. I had this while I was waiting to be seated at Artist Point.

Mizner's Lounge

106.jpg

This is the blue glowtini, it was one of the drinks I had on my "must try" list, and it was one of my favorite drinks I had all week. It was created for the Year of A Million Dreams, and came with a blue glowing cube thing. It was a mix of Skyy citrus vodka, peach schnapps, blue curacao, sweet and sour, and pineapple juice. The combination sounded a bit messy to me, but I really liked the drink upon tasting it. I had this the night at 1900 Park Fare, (to be reviewed soon,) while waiting for my ADR time. I had gotten tired in the park, and actually got to the Grand Floridian two hours early.

World Showcase

091.jpg

This is the sultan's colada. I got in one day from a cart in Morocco, while I was walking around World Showcase. It was basically just a pina colada with almond liquor. While I was drinking it, someone asked me if it was a margarita, and he sounded dissapointed when I told him it was a colada, but I knew right where to tell him where the margaritas were. ;)

065.jpg

This is the Grand Marnier slushie, and was another "must try" of mine. I think it goes without saying what was in this. It was really good. It's available at the stand across from Chefs de France. One annoying note though, I kept on putting off getting it until my last day. It was always $8, but then when I finally did get around to having one, it had gone up to $9. Only a dollar, but it had made me wish I had gotten it before.

Tambu Lounge

My favorite lounge on Disney property. I stopped here a couple times, once before I had dinner at Kona, (review to come,) and once before I had dinner at the Grand Floridian at Citricos, (review to come as well.) I love Tambu Lounge for several reasons. First of all, it has a view of the Magic Kingdom, and unlike other lounges, it seems more spacious.

I think it also has the most unique menu out of all the lounges, and the most tropicalish drinks.

This is the island sunset, and it was my favorite drink I had in Disney in 2007, so I had to have it again. It's a mix of Captain Morgan's spiced rum, Parrot Bay coconut rum, melon, peach, and guava-passion fruit juice. This is so yummy, though it now has some competition for being my favorite Disney drink.

This is the magical star cocktail, which was a new menu item. The server told me this was the first day it was on the menu, and made sure I was happy with it. This was a mix of Parrot Bay coconut rum, (can you tell I like rum?) X-Fusion passion fruit liquor, pineapple juice, and sweet and sour. This was a great drink, and I highly recommend it. Plus it came with the coolest glow cube I had ever seen.

Every other time I had seen a glow cube, it was either red, blue, or green, but this one you could switch between diffent colors, or have it on two colors at once, (like red and blue to make purple, which is what it's set on in the glass,) or it can be set so it changes. I mean it was a really fun little toy that I actually played with for at least ten minutes before getting bored with it. I still have it somewhere though, as well as the one I had with my glowtini. This was a much cooler cube though.

So those are all the drinks I had, except for a couple more I had with my meals, but I think the only other times I had drinks, was one I had with dinner at Narcoossees, and a wine flight I had at Flying Fish, (both of those reviews to come later.)

Next up are all the snacks I had. (I had twenty-four snack credits on the deluxe plan.) :faint:

I'm sure you'll love it too.

Loving your reviews ! Waiting for Narcosses
Glad you're enjoying. Narcoossee's will be awhile, but I promise I'll get it up eventually. Good things come to those who wait.

Those drinks look fabu! We are booked for Boma on a Sunday night so I'll be sure to post what they have on the menu since it's chef choice. Thanks for that Boma review. It's making me feel better since I wasn't sure about this locale.

I really like the look and sound of the Island Sunset :goodvibes
It's so yummy.

I'm really interested to know if it is new recipes, or if it's just a random assortment of other day's items, so I'd be glad if you posted the menu. Either way I'm sure you'll have a delicious meal!

Twelve nights on the deluxe dining plan includes twenty-four snacks. With as many meals as I had, twenty-four snacks were completely unnecessary. I suppose I could've always used them for bottled water and sodas, but I felt they weren't a great value for a credit.

The way I saw it, it cost me $1 per credit for each snack on the plan. The deluxe plan was $32 a night. I reasoned that to be $10 per meal credit, and $1 per snack credit, so my meals I figured "cost" me $10 each, the signature meals "cost" me $20 each, and my snacks "cost" me $1 each.

So even if I had used all twenty-four snack credits on drinks, I still would've saved money. So why didn't I do that? I have no idea.

On my first day, after having lunch at Planet Hollywood, I went to Goofy's Candy Company to get a make-your-own treat. I knew exactly what I wanted, pretzel rods, dipped in dark chocolate, covered in pecans, and drizzled with caramel. These were delicious, and lasted forever. I even still had one when I went home almost two weeks later. I almost went back to Goofy's the last night of my trip, to get more treats to take home, but I never made it back there.

It wasn't until day three that I used another snack credit. That was the day I spent at MGM, and had eaten at Cape May Cafe. I got an apple-cinnamon stuffed pretzel from Min and Bill's before getting a spot to wait for Block Party Bash. I liked the filling, but the dough was just not that great.

Later that same night I was in Epcot, and had stopped at Kringla Og Bakeri, thinking that since I was never hungry during the day, I'd pick up something for breakfast the next morning. I got a sweet pretzel, (I must've been in the mood for pretzels this day,) with icing and almonds. It was so good the next morning, and like the pretzels I had gotten at Goofy's, it was quite large, and lasted a few days.

On day five I spent the morning at Magic Kingdom. I arrived at rope drop, and headed straight to Main Street Bakery, which I've realized if I want to eat there without a long wait in the morning, I have to be there at rope drop. I swear, I think as many people head there as they do to Dumbo, LOL. I asked if the french toast loaf was considered a snack, and was told it was, by the lady at the counter, so I got that, as well as a strawberries and cream shake, since that sounded good.

When I went to check out though, the cashier was quite rude, and said I couldn't get the french toast loaf for a snack credit. I told him I'd been told I could, and he demanded to know who told me so. I should've reported him, but instead I paid out-of-pocket for the french toast loaf, which I really didn't even need, and just used a snack credit for my shake.

Both the shake and french toast were good, but the rude cashier had left me in a slightly bitter mood, that made my breakfast less enjoyable.

It wasn't until day nine that I bothered to use another snack credit, and that day I was at MGM again. I didn't have breakfast that day, so I was getting a little hungry waiting for it to be time for lunch. I decided to stop at Starring Rolls Cafe, since I had always wanted to try that place, and even though their pastries looked really good, I decided to get toffee cheesecake. Cheesecake for breakfast? Only in Disney. It was really good, but I probably would've gotten something esle, if I knew I'd also be having cheesecake for dessert at lunch in just a couple of hours.

The next day I spent at Magic Kingdom. It was really hot that day, so I decided I wanted to get some ice cream before getting a spot for the parade. I stopped at Mrs. Pott's Cupboard, which I hadn't been to since my first trip, which was in the 90's, and got a root beer float. Very good, and very refreshing.

I used most of my snack credits at the Food and Wine Festival booths.

I tried both of the food items from the Hops and Barely market, which were a crab cake with corn and barley salad, and a lobster roll. I liked the crab cake, but didn't care for the salad it came with. I was also quite dissapointed with the lobster roll, and didn't even finish it, it was quite bland, and I would've been so upset had I paid the $7 others were for it.

At the San Fransisco booth I tried the seared beef medallion with cheese polenta. It was good, though I found the polenta to be a bit gritty, but it had a good taste.

At the New Orleans booth I sampled the praline bread pudding, which came with bourbon caramel sauce. This was excellant, and, thankfully a very small portion, because it was quite rich.

In France I tried the quiche and creme brulee. The quiche had a leek and goat cheese filling, and while I really liked the filling, the crust left a lot to be desired. I make much better quiche myself at home from scratch. The creme brulee seemed a bit more liquidy then it should've been, but it had a good flavor.

At the Greece booth I got a piece of spanakopita, which is a pastry filled with spinach and cheese. This was a favorite of mine in 2007, and was just as good this year.

At the Austrian booth I got tafelspitz, and buchteln. The tafelspitz was a piece of broiled beef with potatoes and horseradish cream sauce, and was very good. The buchteln was an apricot jam roll with vanilla sauce, but even with the sauce, I thought it was quite dry, and didn't eat most of it.

At the South Africa booth, (which was my favorite booth in 2007,) I tried the Druban spiced chicken skewer, which came with coconut milk-infused root vegetables. This was great as well, and the South Africa booth remains one I highly recommend.

In Japan I tried the seaweed salad with shrimp and orange. Now, usually I am not a big fan of seaweed, but I'd had some with lunch, (I had eaten at Tokyo dining that day,) and enjoyed it, so I decided to give it another go. This one was good as well, but was quite spicy, and after a few bites, I couldn't eat any more.

Last but not least, I stopped at the Mouse Catch, which was a new booth this year. Here a was able to sample a trio of cheeses, (or a single or duo, but on the plan, it all cost the same, so I decided to sample all three,) which were very good, and a nice "palate cleanser" before heading out of the park for dinner.

There were three types of cheeses, Asiago Pressato from Italy, Manchego from Spain, and Dorothea from Holland. All of them were good, but my favorite was the dorothea from Holland, which I had never had before. It was a semi-soft cheese, with basil and potatoes. I thought it sounded odd, but it was so delicious.

Even after all my snacking at World Showcase I still had five credits left.

The next day I had breakfast at Ohana. After breakfast I stopped at the gift shop at the Polynesian, and got two bags of dried apricots, a bad of dried apples and cranberries, and a Mickey rice krispie treat to take home, saving one credit in case I got hungry back at Pop while I waited for my Magical Express pick-up time.

My last credit I did end up using at Pop. Twelve nights at Pop Century, and I only had one thing to eat at the food court the whole time, (unless you count the many diet coke refills I had in my mug.) Anyway, the last thing I got was a Smucker's uncrustable. I had been told repeatedly by one of my coworkers, that it was the best peanut butter and jelly sandwich ever, so I decided to try one. I have to admit it was very good, as far as PB&J goes, but I don't see myself paying out-of-pocket for them.

So those are all the snacks I had. Next review coming up is my breakfast at Tusker House.

I have yet to go during the Festival to sample all the foods ,but it is on my list of times to go !!

I love Boma, can't wait to go back in February.

thanks for your cocktail pictures, never had much to drink at WDW as we have always been in October/november and I have found that in the hot weather all I want is soft drink or beer. Maybe if the weather is chillier in February I will give some of those cocktails a go.

Great reviews

Thanks soooo much for the Boma review. As soon as you mentioned the 'best' days I was rechecking our ADR - ours is SUnday, and I thought, Oh well - never mind..... Until I reached the end of your post and read your comment about the chefs saying that Sunday was the best night :goodvibes - yaayyyy!

This looks so so good. We're not eating at the Poly but I think an afternoon break from the MK would be perfect to enjoy one of these. Mmmmmm Mmmmm - Looks (and sound) awesome.

I don't know how you used up that many snack credits with all of the wonderful food i have seen in your reviews so far. :) I doubt we would have a problem in May since my son is 16 and a human garbage disposale. :lmao: I am really enjoying your reviews and getting some ideas on where to eat.
