Dining Reviews Sep 2008 & Feb 2009 Update 8/13 - Complete!

Great review :)

Probably a silly question, but being so close to the tank did you feel you were being 'looked' at by other diners?
Not really. I can tell when I'm being stared at, and I didn't get that vibe there.

I am really enjoying your reviews and pictures. I hope a few rotten apples don't spoil the bunch...I hope you continue, but completly understand if you do not want to finish your review.

I'm enjoying your reviews very much. :)

Obviously, I'm in the minority, but I prefer reading restaurant reviews over just looking at photos.

Yes, I know a picture is worth a thousand words most of the time, but when it comes to food, the descriptions are just as valuable as the visuals. The look of food is only aspect of enjoying it. Texture, aroma, and flavor are just as important, and you can't get those things from photos.

Few! I just got caught up on your report. Sorry, I'm new- takes me awhile to assimilate. Your report so far is great! Love the pictures and everything.

At any rate, I especially loved your reports on Jiko and Yak & Yeti. I had been flip flopping between the two. We love asian food, so we will be going to Yak & Yeti! :thumbsup2

For my main meal I had an appetizer, the burger sliders, which were three small golf ball-sized cheeseburgers, topped with Russian dressing and pickles. The menu said they were served with waffle fries, but they came with potato chips.

These were good, but nothing special, and I felt the portion was very small for the price. Though I wasn't really paying for this, so it didn't bother me, but if I was paying out of pocket, it wouldn't of been worth it.

For dessert I had bananas foster cheesecake. It was a nice light slice of cheesecake, with a large amount of bananas foster sauce.

Question - I remember the other year that the certificate for Planet Hollywood would only allow a limited number of cheap entrees. Is it for a set dollar amount now and you can order whatever you want?

The dolls in your sig are cute. You should get a holiday one. I saw some cute Christmas ones. (Since it's too late to bother with Halloween) :goodvibes

It was $15 for any food and non-alcoholic drinks.

I like the dolls too. A Christmas one might be cute.

Like Cape May Cafe I had not had Spoodles in my original intinerary, but due to it's location, and positive reviews, I replaced Olivia's Cafe, (and sooner or later I will get around to eating there,) with Spoodles, since I would be spending the evening in Epcot.

I had a 5:20 ADR, but arrived early, and was seated as soon as the restaurant opened at 5:00. Something I noticed in the waiting area was a digital slideshow of pictures of the desserts. I thought it was a little tacky, since it was similar to Pop Century's food court's pictures of the menu items, and it just seemed out of place at a table service restaurant.

My server this evening was Nathan. He was good, and made some wonderful recommendations. I was a bit lost as to what I wanted to order for my appetizer, for two reasons, one, because I'm not a huge fan of Italian food, I can really take it or leave it, and two, I don't think I was hungry enough to really care.

I was debating whether or not to get the calamari, but Nathan suggested the Mediterranean dips, since it was a sampling of several different dips, and it was a "fun" appetizer. It came with hummus, tzaziki, hitipi, and chermoula, as well as marinated olives and pita bread. I also got a basket of the house bread and dipping sauce.

165.jpg

The hummus was a very good basic hummus, and I enjoyed it. The tzaziki was a creamy dip with a sour cream type base with cucumber and dill, this was all right, but I don't really care for dill, so I didn't use much of this. The hitipi was another cream-based dip, except this one was made with feta and garlic. I really liked this one, and I was delighted to find the recipe for it in one of my Disney cookbooks when I got home. The chermoula I liked, but it was a little too spicy for my taste, and I didn't eat much of that one either. The marinated olives I didn't care for, but I don't really like olives that much, as I don't like the salty flavor most of them have. The dipping sauce that came with the house bread, was a mix of oil, olives, and carrots. I didn't really like this either, as I said, I don't like olives, otherwise I probably would've.

162.jpg

The two breads, the pita bread that came with my dips, and the house bread that everyone gets, were both very good. The pita bread was wonderful, and the house bread, which was some kind of focaccia, was great as well.

With my appetizer I had a glass of sangria. It was probably the best sangria I've ever had, and although I only had a glass, it is also available as a pitcher for $18.75, which seems like a great deal to me.

161.jpg

Even though I had trouble deciding on an appetizer, (and also on dessert,) I knew exactly what I wanted for my entree, one of the specials for the day; lobster ravioli.

170.jpg

There were seven, (my lucky number,) nice-sized raviolis, with a sweet lobster filling. It was served in a citrus cream sauce, and sauteed shrimp. It tasted great, though the sauce had the consistincy of water, and was not thick at all, but it had a very nice flavor.

For dessert I listened to Nathan's recomendation and had the tangy yogurt panna cotta, which was especially nice since it was a light dessert after that very carb-heavy meal.

175.jpg

The panna cotta was topped with an orange-honey glaze, and served with a piece of chocolate-dipped almond biscotti. The dessert was good and reminded me a lot of the Greek yogurt with honey I sometimes buy at the local supermarkets. (Though for whatever reason my store doesn't sell it, so I always have to go looking for it elsewhere, very annoying.)

I really liked Spoodles, and if I wish I had eaten here last year when my mom was with me, since she really likes Meditteranean food, and she would've probably really liked this restaurant.

Spoodles had been one of our favorite restaurants since it first opened:thumbsup2

Those lobster ravioli sound divine:worship:

Great reviews so far! That's some trip you were on! It sounds like you really enjoyed yourself. :sunny:

My husband is crazy over sangria, and I read here about Spoodle's pitchers of sangria, so we went there for dinner during our trip in February.

It wasn't a bad meal, but NJ people be forewarned. The pitcher is about half the size of what you get in the Ironbound section of Newark for the same price and nowhere as strong or delicious. It's not bad sangria, but if you read here about how good it is, then expect to get what we do up north, you'll be disappointed.

The dipping sauce they gave with the bread was a tapenade. You'd definitely have to like olives to enjoy it, but man, I do! I could have made a meal out of it with the bread.

I'm looking forward to reading the rest of your reviews. Thanks for posting them. :)

I subscribed way back when you first started reviewing but I guess my subscription failed. I've really enjoyed all of your reviews and wonderful photos.

Will I get in trouble for asking why you aren't posting them? No pressure as I'm just being nosy. :goodvibes

Thanks for taking the time to do this!

Sorry, we are not discussing photos on this thread. If OP wants to add great, I know people will enjoy. BUt the discussion of them is off topic. thank you for understanding:)

Spoodles sounds great, it's somewhere I'd never considered before but might just have to change my mind :)

First of all, I'm sorry it's taken so long to get a new review up, but there was a family emergency, and it occupied most of my time last week. Though I would've much rather been on the DIS writing reviews then having the week I had. Second of all, I just don't enjoy writing the reviews as much without pictures, so I'm going to include them again, (and I'll add the ones for Coral Reef and Spoodles when I can,) I know a lot of you were enjoying them, and I'm not going to let one person ruin it for everybody.

I had a 12:00 lunch ADR at the Wave which was, at the time, Disney's newest table service restaurant. It's so amazing that I just came back last month and Disney already has a new table service restaurant open since I got back, as well as the new Contemporary counter service location. I think the menu sounds really good there, very upscale counter service, and may stop at the Contemporary on my next trip just to try it.

I had spent the morning at Magic Kingdom, and left at 11:20, thinking that since the Contemporary, where the Wave is located, was so close I'd have plenty of time to get there. I was wrong. The monorail was having some difficulties, and it took almost a half hour to get to the Contemporary.

072-1.jpg

When I did check in it was 11:55, and after a few minutes I was seated right away. The dining room has a very modern decor, and is huge. It doesn't seem to get a lot of business, at least not at lunch, as there were only a few tables full the whole time I was there. Also, just on a side note, there were several other solo diners, and only one table with children, very well behaved children I might add.

075.jpg

My server was Xia, and she was nice, and made some very good recommendations.

For my beverage here I was allowed a bottle of Evian water, as well as a milkshake.

077.jpg

The milkshake was good, but I didn't really need it. And I was more thirsty for water. It was one of those things that sounded really good when I ordered it, but then once I got it I wondered why I ordered it.

For my appetizer I had the lump crab cake, which came with papaya slaw, and a balsamic glaze.

080.jpg

This was very good, there was very little filler, and had a good crab flavor. It was pan-seared so no fried bready coating either, so definatly healthier then some of the other crab cakes I've had in Disney, but just as delicious. The papaya slaw was good as well, I like savory fruit salads like that. And the balsamic glaze was a perfect compliment to the crab cake.

For my entree I had the reuben.

083.jpg

Usually I'm not a huge fan of the classic reuben, as when I make one at home I make it with turkey and coleslaw instead of corned beef and saurkrat. But this was a nice sandwich, as well as being huge and very filling and I was only able to eat half. With it I had a choice of roasted potato wedges or papaya slaw, and since I had already had the papaya slaw with my crab cake, I choose the potato wedges, which were very good.

I really like the dessert concept here, a trio of three small desserts, which can be mixed and matched. I choose one of the already set assortments, the decadent indulgences.

084.jpg

Going from left to right are; blueberry compote with yogurt gelato, lemon cornbread with vanilla panna cotta, and chocolate mousse with salted caramel sauce. The blueberry compote was very nice, but I thought the yougurt gelato was kind of freezer burned, as it had some ice crystals in it. The lemon cornbread had a nice taste, but was kind of dry, but luckily it had that vanilla panna cotta on top, which was nice, and cut the dryness. The chocolate mousse was my favorite of the three, though it wasn't as good as the chocolate mousse I'd had at Yachtsman Steakhouse.

Overall the Wave is a very nice, more adult, restaurant, and a nice addition to Disney. I'm going to try dinner there the next time I go to Disney, since it was very solo-friendly, and the dinner menu looks good. Plus, I'd like to try some more of those desserts.

I can't wait until I get the chance to eat at Yak and Yeti again. If / when I do I'd be torn between ordering something new or having the steak and shrimp again. I really want to try the fried green beans though, I heard they are excellant.

I'm enjoying your reviews very much. :)

I agree. I love the pictures, and love to look at them as well, but something could look beautiful, but taste horrible, and if all that was posted were pictures, there'd be no way to tell.

I am really enjoying your reviews and pictures. I hope a few rotten apples don't spoil the bunch...I hope you continue, but completly understand if you do not want to finish your review.
Don't worry, I'm going to finish.

Spoodles is one of my favorite places, gotta love that Sangria!:drinking1

I like canned black olives, but I find other olives too salty tasting for my liking. Otherwise I could probably make a meal on bread too.

I subscribed way back when you first started reviewing but I guess my subscription failed. I've really enjoyed all of your reviews and wonderful photos.
Hope your subscription works this time.

Spoodles sounds great, it's somewhere I'd never considered before but might just have to change my mind :)
Spoodles is one I always kind of put off going to since I'm not huge on Italian food and such, but it is such a nice restaurant. Not a must do, but one I'd definatly return to. I'd pick it over Tony's Town Square, and probably Mama Melrose's too.

Great Reviews! Thank you so much!

Rubyprincess:
Glad you're enjoying.

Where have I been, I've never heard of The Wave. It looks very nice! You had two of my favorite things: crab cakes and reuben sandwich. I usually go to ESPN at the Boardwalk for a reuben at least once per trip.

Thanks for giving me an idea for a new place to try! :)
