Because I got such great info here about choosing restaurants, I wanted to post our dining experience on our latest trip.
The restaurants
BlueZoo, O'Hana, Crystal Palace (lunch), Zen
We took advantage of the free kids club at the Dolphin when we went to BlueZoo. Our two daughters age 8 and 4 loved it! We had to drag our 4 year old out against great protests.
BlueZoo was a bit of a disappointment. The food was good but not great and our server was a little unpleasant. I had the roasted shrimp appetizer and miso seabass. While I enjoyed them they weren't terrific. My husband had the chowder which he thought was o.k. and the cantonese lobster - very pricey and really heavy. The lobster was lost in the breading. Our server recounted everything in a rehearsed monotone - we tried to avoid talking to her as she seemed to look away and ignore us when we talked to her!
However, I would say that being able to use the kids club was enough of an inducement to go back.
O'Hana was great as always. I liked the new menu changes especially the potatoes. The bread pudding was terrific - the only problem was not enough!
Our server was wonderful (Jeff from West Virginia) - told great jokes and paced the meal perfectly. The kids loved the coconut races, limbo and songs.
We took a walk on the Poly waterfront afterwards.
We went to the Crystal Palace lunch for the first time. We probably waited about 30 minutes beyond our 1 pm reservation and the kids were hot and hungry. We thought the food was amazing! My favourites were the salmon and mushroom pasta. They also had carved meats, thai dishes and great salads. In fact you could have made a meal out of just the salads.
All the Pooh characters made it to the table except for Eeyore who seemed to have had a wardrobe malfuntion. All in all, a terrific value I think. Can't wait to go back.
We went to a few non-Disney restaurants - one that stands out is Zen in the Omni, a pan-Asian theme. We had the "Zen experience" - a tasting of most of their dishes. The food was pretty good, lobster, scallops, duck etc. We definately ate too much. Luckily we were staying at the Omni so we didn't have far to go.
We didn't make our ADRs for Boma or Whispering Canyon...oh well next time. I continue to be very pleased by the quality of Disney dining
