Dining reviews - (from a Brit !) First 3

I think that my family is the only one in the US to make corn bread without any sugar. I make it that way because my mom did; my mom makes it that way because her mom did. I suspect that HER mom made it that was because they were too poor to add sugar. But nevertheless, I don't like it when it tastes like cake.

I'm originally from Texas and we dont' make it with sugar either. My granny always made with w/o sugar and used bacon grease in the cast iron skillet that she baked it in. I loved that stuff. It's just not the same when I make it without the bacon grease.

I think it is a regional thing. I don't sweeten my cornbread and no one in my family (or DH's family) does.

that sweet cornbread was "Yankee" cornbread... But sweet tea is a southern thing... hmmm....

I also love the the sweets called Reeces? They are peanut butter cups. Have I got that right? I wish we could get them over here ( Or rather my thighs and stomach are glad you can't get them)!

You can get Reeces here! Sainsbury's sell them - packs of 4 about 2 inches across each one. I used to bring bags home with us but they dont travel well (melt into their little paper cups) but now I dont bother.

They're far too fattening, that's for sure

Last time we were there I brought back a bag of peanut butter and chocolate chips and make cookies here with them. Now they do travel wel :teeth:
