Thursday 10/3/24
We started the day at Epcot.
Scott ordered the lobster tail from one of the Food & Wine festival booths. He said it was a little tough but still tasty. He didn’t have high expectations for a lobster tail from a food booth, but he enjoyed it.
That evening we drove to Caribbean Beach Resort for our dinner reservation at Sebastian’s Bistro. We went early to have a pre-dinner cocktail at Banana Cabana.
We were happy to see the barstools back at Banana Cabana. During our last trip they weren’t out.
Scott had a double bourbon with Coke. I had a Banana Cabana: Cruzan Mango Rum, Parrot Bay Coconut Rum, Bols Crème de Banana Liqueur, Minute Maid Orange Juice, and Pineapple juice with a float of grenadine. This is a really good drink.
Scott loved those little alien guys. When you push the button on his belt he’ll say a saying, and if there are more aliens nearby they all chime in. We now have several of them at home and it makes us laugh each time we push the button on the belt.
We were seated on time at Sebastian’s Bistro.
It’s a set menu and you can ask for more of anything you want more of.
They start you off with Buttery House-baked pull-apart rolls with guava butter and caramelized onion jam. I say the same thing each time we’re been here about these rolls; they are good and if they were warmed up they would be even better.
Next comes the Spice Necklace Salad: Mixed greens with spiced candied pumpkin seeds, tropical fruit, and radish with key lime dressing. This is a really good salad with a refreshing and light dressing.
The Main course: Taste of the Caribbean: A selection of our favorite recipes inspired by the flavors of the Caribbean: Oven-roasted Citrus Chicken, Slow cooked Mojo pork with mango sambal, Grilled chili rubbed beef with Mojito relish, and sustainable baked fish with Veracruz sauce. Each time we have dinner at Sebastian’s there is usually one item we like better than others and one that is our least favorite; the favorite and least favorite changes each visit. Today the weakest item was the fish; it was pretty bland
Sides are served family style and include Cilantro Rice and Beans, vegetable curry, and grilled seasonal vegetables. I don’t know what they do, but this broccolini is so tasty. I normally don’t like cilantro since it tastes like soap, but somehow the rice and beans here is really good and doesn’t taste like soap.
For vegetarian’s they also have a vegetarian plate called “Harvest of the Caribbean” which includes Impossible Kabob, fried jerk Tofu, plant based sausage, and Caribbean “fish” cake served with cilantro rice and beans, vegetable stew, and grilled seasonal vegetables. We didn’t try the vegetarian version but wanted to include what we saw on the menu for reference.
For dessert: Our celebrated house made coconut pineapple bread pudding with caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream. This bread pudding is phenomenal, the star of the meal.
We really enjoyed our meal at Sebastian’s Bistro. It’s a lot of food, we didn’t end up asking for more of anything. This is such a cute place, really a hidden gem.
