Sorry this is a bit delayed...I am already caught up in planning our next trip!
The diners for this review- me, dh, dd3, dd1.
We arrived early evening on Friday, March 10th and headed to DTD via the POR boat.
Wolfgang Puck's Express-
This was a lot of good food for a CS and our first experience with the DDP. We were duly impressed. I had the spicy chicken pizza which was excellent, like a wood-fired pizza. DH had a roast beef sandwich that was fine, but nothing really special. DD3 had the kid's pizza (which DH and I ended up helping her finish- very good), but was mostly interested in the giant chocolate chip cookie which she decided to eat first (and we let her because we were all in such a good mood). DH and I both had creme brulee for dessert. It was good, but not the best I had ever had. It was a bit too mass produced (but what can I expect at a CS in the middle of DTD at 9:30 at night). The wait staff behind the counters were very attentive helpful in explaining the DDP to us and refilled our drinks, etc. I would give this an A rating for a CS restaurant.
We picked up refillable mugs on our way back through the POR food court and used them constantly throughout the trip.
Saturday, March 11th-
Pecos Bills-
Stopped in here for lunch after a few rounds of Big Thunder Mountain. It was a bit chaotic in the line to order food, but we were able to find seats OK once we had our food. There were CM's pointing to extra seating in the back. I had the pulled pork, which was pretty good. The bun was fresh and it was just spicy enough. DH had the bacon cheeseburger which he filled with a selection of toppings from the toppings bar. DD3 had the hotdogs with beans, but mostly just ate the hotdogs. DD1 ate mushrooms from the toppings bar (what a weird kid!) and the mickey cheddar crackers from dd3's meal (plus food we brought for her). DD3 wasn't impressed with the applesauce "dessert" and helped DH and I finish the peanut butter mousses. I wish they had more dessert options here. However, we did like the mousse, even if it was a bit rich. One would have been enough for all of us in terms of richness. All in all, I would say a B+. We would go back, but would try other things first as it was fine, but there is plenty more to try!
Biergarten-
Headed over to Epcot for dinner and didn't realize what a hike it would be back to the World Showcase. We didn't wait too long for a 6pm ADR (waited about 10 minutes) and were seated on the second level with a family with teenagers. They said hello and we exchanged a few "Where are you from and where are you stayings?", but really just kept to ourselves. I don't think the teenagers really liked the food and we were focusing on getting the high chair settled, balancing plates at the buffet, etc. We liked the food, although I would say it was a bit on the bland side. I was hoping the saurbraten would have a bit more "nip" to it. However, dd3 loved the varieties of cheeses and sausages. We tried a little of everything and went back for seconds. DD3 ran down to the stage when the dancing began. We could see her easily from where we were sitting. I am sure there are some parents who would have been uncomfortable being so far away, but she was still in our eyesight and had blast with all of the other kids! We got to rest a bit and enjoy our dinner and she was able to dance off some energy. An A-....would have been better if it had a bit more spice!
Sunday, May 12th-
Princess Storybook Breakfast-
We had a blast at this meal. They let us into Epcot early to go back to Norway, but we had plenty of time so we went up to the rope drop in Future World and stopped at Character Connection and Journey into the Imagination on the way. It was a bit creepy as we were the only one's on the ride..it a like a ghost town.
Anyway, PSB was great. Both DD's had on princess dresses and DD3 made immediate friends with a matching Snow White. We did have to wait about 20 minutes to get in and were a bit rushed through our picture with Belle. However, the princesses did make the rounds and stayed for a few minutes. DD3 was thrilled to meet Mary Poppins (she is "practically perfect"), so this was a fun surprise. The food was fine, but nothing special. DD3 liked the cinnamon rolls and aske for more. I thought they were ok, but I've had better at Cinnabon. I did like the sausages though- they were the quite large and juicy. They brought us more of everythign we asked for (mostly fruit). We did have trouble finding our waiter a few times, but just asked another waitress and usually they tracked him down. We were one of the last breakfast tables and didn't feel rushed to move on. The princesses disappeared, but we stayed to finish eating. We will definitely do this one again. DD3 calls this the princesses' summer castle! A definite A for us!
Tusker House-
Mid-afternoon, we were hungry and wanted something less than lunch and more substantial than a "snack". We decided to split one CS meal and stopped at Tusker House. There was lots of room to sit in the shade while we reviewed the park maps. DD3 ate the corn on the cob, I ate the cole slaw, and DH and I split the ribs. The meat was a bit sparse, mostly bones...but it was better than a burger and took the edge off our hunger until dinner. A B+...but maybe it would have been better if we had all had full meals.
Boma-
Headed over to AK for the afternoon parade and then took the bus to AK Lodge. We had 6:30 reservations and probably waited 25 minutes. This was one of the best meals we had all week (and one of the longest waits). They did seat us a bit far away from the buffet meaning that dd3 had to wind her way around many tables holding the plate she insisted that should could carry herself. I loved the lentil/feta salad and the hummus with flatbread. This was DD3s favorite...they had three different kinds of hummus and all had a bit of spice. DH thought the primerib was a bit fatty, but there was a pretty good sauce to go on top. I tried the foufou and thought it was interesting. DD3 had the seafood soup and liked it a lot, I'm not a fish eater...so I skipped it. DH and I both liked the zebra domes and went back for a second round. They did have a kid's bar of pasta and mac and cheese, but we skipped that as dd3 is a pretty adventurous eater. A+...one of our favorites.
Monday, March 13th
Typhoon Lagoon-
We had a CS lunch by the side of the kid's section. DH and I split a personal pizza and a cheeseburger with fries. DD3 had a hot dog. We had cookies for dessert and DD3 was given a "chip" to get an ice cream for her dessert on teh way out. It wasn't anything special, but we were hungry, so it tasted fine to us for what it was- pool snackbar food.
BTW- We usually just give DD1 bits and pieces of our meals and then supplemented with age appropriate "baby" food. So even when I don't mention her, we did feed her along the way too!
Coral Reef- This resaurant has received so many mixed reviews that I was a bit worried. We arrived for a 5:20 reservation and waited about 20 minutes. We asked for a table near to windows and were told that we would have to wait up to an hour. I don't know how true this really was because we didn't want to wait with two little hungry girls. We also ran into a bit of skirmish when our buzzer went off, but they had assigned the same number to two buzzers meaning we had to wait a bit longer. This would have been fine except that we took DD1 out of the kidpack, etc. in anticipation of going in.
We were seated at a table on the second level where the kids could see the tanks. There were lots of divers who seemed enamored with the fact that they could see the diners. One had a "Happy Birthday" sign. DD1 didn't seem to notice the tanks and DD3 grew quickly bored of them. I think we were too far away for her to be really captivated by the fish. I thought it was all very cool though! The food, however, was fantastic!
DDH had the mushroom soup as an appetizer. DD3 and I both had the shrimp cocktail. The shrimp were big and plump. We each had about 6-7 shrimp. DD3 ate all of hers and most of mine. DH liked his soup, but wasn't as impressed with it as we were with our shrimp. DD3 had the fried shrimp and french fries for her dinner. She ate very little of this. I think she was full from the shrimp cocktail and didn't seem to really like the fried food.
DH and I both had the filet mignon and they were really, really tasty. Mine was pink in the middle and the demi-glace was perfect. It included carrots as the vegtable that were fine, presented in a pretty fashion...but carrots tasted like carrots. The potatoes were fine, but not very memorable. Now the desserts were really the best part. DD3 had the "Make your own sundae" which she spent a lot more time "making" than "eating". I had the chocolate wave which was superb...chocolate lava flowing into melting ice cream and I still haven't figured out just exactly what the "wave" was made of, but I ate it anyway! DDH had the coconut banana bread pudding. He gave it a thumbs up, but my philosophy is that chocolate trumps all...so I stuck with my wave.
Tuesday, March 14th
Went back to AK and had lunch at Flame Tree. By now we were getting smarter about healthy (sort of) eating and were sick of burgers. DH and I both ordered chicken salads which were excellent. They had a bit of cous cous mixed in and a light vinegrette. DD3 had the chicken and mash potatoes. She ate them, so she must have liked them. Cheesecake for dessert (with chocolate cake for dd3). We went in at 11 and found a seat, but by 11:30 it was getting very crowded. A for a CS
WCC- I was really looking foward to this one and was a bit disappointed. Our waiter wasn't all that entertaining. All he did was throw straws at us and seemed a bit bored with some of the other customers. We all had the skillet and enjoyed it, but it was a bit messy. I liked the pork a lot and the ribs were good, but the chicken was a bit dry and the corn on the cob a bit "chewy". We had the endless milkshakes, but they seemed to end with the first glass and the waiter didn't bother filling them again and we had trouble finding him to ask for more. I'm not sure we'll rush back here...I did like the Wilderness Lodge's lobby though. I'd say a B-...sadly...
