My family and I just returned from Disney World and so here is my dining report.

We were on the dining plan and I will say I don’t think I could ever go back and not have it. It was wonderful. There were 11 in our group but I will just run down what I, DH and two sons (7 and 5) had and highlight the others.

Sunday: Chef Mickey…..the characters were great. The kids had the best time. The characters were patient with the five kids each wanting pics and such. I thought the food was good also. We all had the prime rib and mashed potatoes and they were divine. I also had green beans with almonds and salad. DH had the pork also and said it was just OK. I thought the prime rib was a tad over cooked but very very good anyway. Boys had prime rib and ate it all so I assume they liked it. The boys loved making their own sundaes so did hubby. I had cheesecake and it was yummy. Overall I thought it was a great restaurant and the kids LOVED it. It was great seeing so many main characters at once….Mickey, Minnie, Chip, Dale, Donald and Goofy.

Monday: Breakfast in the room.
For lunch we had Cosmic Rays at Magic Kingdom. I had heard here how large the portions were so we decided to share meals because we were all hot, tired and not real hungry. DH got the ribs and chicken meal with a brownie. I got a double meat cheese burger, fries and chocolate cake. I asked for two extra plates and they had no problem with that. I shared burger and fries with one son and hubby shared with other. Hubby liked the ribs but said the chicken was ok. DS(5) said the chicken was good but didn’t like the ribs LOL….the burger I had was very good as were the fries and cake was soo good but very rich DS and I couldn’t finish it off.

For dinner we had reservations at Coral Reef. MIL was a little miffed that we had reservations for one table and all they had was two tables. So we had to sit apart. But aside from that it was a nice dinner. We had a super great waitress. They let the kids order and appetizer from the adult menu..
I had fried squid to start with. It was ok. I had not had it before. It really didn’t have much taste. DH had shrimp cocktail and said it was GREAT. DS had shrimp cocktail and other one had a salad. Shrimp son ate all but one of his and I ate it. It was very good wished I had of ordered that. Other son ate about half of his salad it was very large.
For entrees I had salmon that came with roasted potatoes and some tossed greens. The salmon was super. Potatoes and greens were good. DH had steak, potatoes and asparagus and said it was a wonderful meal. He said the steak was a little over done he ordered it medium and it had no pink in it at all but said it was still good. Both boys wanted the spaghetti and hated it. It was basically elbow noodles with tomato sauces on it. NOT spaghetti sauce. So they had a some of my niece’s steak. She is 10 so ordered a steak off adult menu and couldn’t eat it all so they split it.
Dessert: I had the chocolate wave cake it was the best cake I had ever eaten. DH had cheesecake said it was good. Boys had sundaes and loved making them. They thought they were so cool. Sister in law had ordered the crème Brule and it was very good.
I had asked for the anniversary dessert for the in-laws since we were celebrating their 40th anniversary there. It was sooo nice. A chocolate flute filled with chocolate moose and whipped cream on top surrounded by fresh strawberries and a nice chocolate piece that said something on it. I forgot. But in-laws were very surprised and impressed.
The tank was cool and several divers were in it. Lots of gorgeous fish. Overall I loved this restaurant. Great food, great service.

Tuesday: Breakfast in room.
Lunch was Pizza Planet at MGM. The boys thought this place “rocked” I was just glad it was nice and cool in there. We shared three pizzas. We had some left over. But I think it was only because we were all tired and hot and the boys just wanted to play games. I enjoyed the salad and was very surprised the pizza was as good as it was. We had Mickey rice crispy bars for dessert. They were YUMMY. Overall it was a good restaurant for the kids.

Dinner: We had reservations at the Grand Floridian Café. It was GORGEOUS. We had the best waitress ever. For starters I ordered the spinach dip, DH had the French onion soup, and DS’s had the grapes and cheese plate. It was all so good. We were all excited that the fish of the day was halibut so we all ordered that. The boys had steak. The fish was wonderful.
Dessert: The waitress showed us this wonderful plate of four desserts and I was like oh man how do I chose she said no you can have all of this. I was totally surprised…so I ordered the dessert plate. It had Key Lime Pie, Cheese cake with a raspberry sauce, Chocolate mouse, and Lady Finger dessert. I can’t pick which one was the best cause they were all amazing. My brother in law ordered the chocolate fondue with fruit and waitress didn’t make it count at two desserts only one. She also told us we could all order cappuccinos with our dessert. I had chocolate cappuccino and it was very good. Overall this was by far my favorite restaurant. I loved everything about it. My next trip I might have to eat there twice. 

Wednesday: Breakfast in our room again.
Lunch was Flame Tree BBQ in Animal Kingdom. Hubby and I had the BBQ beef sandwich and it was good. It came with baked beans that none of us liked. I thought the BBQ could have used more sauce. DS’s had a hotdog. We all had frozen lemonades for dessert. It was a nice lunch by the water but wish it had of been indoors for the A/C.

Dinner: Chef De France…I was very disappointed in this restaurant. I thought the service was very rushed. The waiter seemed annoyed that I couldn’t decide what dessert I wanted and when I asked if the kids got to order any appetizer. Which they didn’t.
For appetizers I got lobster bisque soup and I didn’t care for it at all. Hubby got escargot and said they were fine. Nothing special but not terrible. For entrees I got the tenderloin. I asked for it to be medium it was closer to well done. So it was to dry for my taste. The potatoes and green beans were very good. I think the steak would have been good if it weren’t over cooked.
DH got the same thing and thought the same as I did. DS’s got chicken strips. There was not much choice for the kids there. They ate them ok not all of them.
Dessert: I had some mixed fruit with a mint sorbet. I didn’t care for it. DH got sorbet and an elephant ear. The sorbet was ok but elephant ear was not very good. Kids got ice cream it was the only choice for them. They were disappointed it because it was just a plain old scoop of ice cream and they had fun sprinkles syrup’s and waffle dishes the days before.
Overall I would not go back to this restaurant but that is just me.

Thursday: Breakfast hubby got an omelet from food court of the hotel. It was pretty tasteless but it was just egg and cheese. Me and the boys had donuts instead. I had gotten those as a snack credit.
Lunch: Peco Bills at Magic Kingdom. We shared three burgers, fries and peanut brownies. I will say the burger was great. Good fixings bar also. Very fresh. Fries were ok nothing bad or great. The brownie was soooo amazing. I would give anything for one right now. I thought they needed more options on dessert because not everyone can eat peanut butter but it was good. I thought this was the best counter service I had.

Dinner Concourse Steakhouse. I thought this was my least favorite meal. Fair Service, fair food. BUT my in-laws thought it was their favorite food and restaurant so maybe I was wrong. I had had a bad day that day anyway so I had a stressed stomach that probably didn’t help.
Appetizers: I had scallops. They were not as good as I had had before at other places. Hubby had the same. My boys had shrimp cocktail. They wouldn’t share with us. LOL
Entrees: we all had filets. Again over cooked. I learned in Disney if you want it medium ask for it to be medium rare. I asked for fries with the boys steaks instead of potatoes and they said no problem. They brought the steaks with mashed potatoes. Boys were disappointed.
Dessert hubby got chocolate cake and said it was ok not as good as the chocolate wave cake I had at Coral Reef but good. I had Butterfinger cheesecake it was great. I couldn’t finish it though but it was great. Kids got paint your own cookie and had a great time but didn’t want to eat them. LOL. It was my nephew’s birthday so I ask for him to have a special birthday dessert so they put a candle in his cookie and he thought that was funny.
Overall everyone but DH and I loved this place but it was my not my fav. The waiter was good but didn’t get the orders right. But that was probably more a kitchen problem than his. He was friendly but very slow on drink refills and the place was not busy we had early reservations.

Friday: Breakfast at food court before we left. I had western omelet it was pretty good, son had mickey waffles and LOVED LOVED LOVED them, DH had cheese/egg omelet and other son had eggs and bacon.

I had five counter services left over since we shared so much so when I was paying out the man in front of me had four meals on his tray and was paying cash so I paid for his four meals and he was shocked! He was so nice and appreciative. Then I had one more left and the man behind me had him and his sons so I paid for one of his since they weren’t on the dining plan either. They were just blown away and it sure made me feel great. My mother in law and father in law had one left over and didn’t know you could buy someone else’s and so they didn’t use it. After we were in the car talking and I said what I had done they hated they didn’t use theirs that way.
And I only knew I could from you good people so Thanks.

Holly

Thanks for your review. We are going to Chef Mickey's on our first night. It is nice to see that the characters are patient. Sometimes they seem in such a rush. The prime rib sounds good (I like my meat a little on the done side so I will probably be quite happy :) .

Thanks for your counter service reviews. Good advice about Animal Kingdom and no air. I might have to eat in air conditioning.

That was very nice of you to pay for those meals before you left.

Great reviews....and since I'm not on the DDP, I sure hope I run into someone like you as I'm about to pay for my meals!! :thumbsup2

Great reviews! I have a couple of questions if you don't mind answering...

We are planning on going to Cosmic Ray's one day and 5 adults planned to share 3 of the chicken/rib meals. Do you feel 3 of them could feed 5 adults?

Also, how big are the Pizza Planet pizzas? When we eat there it will be 3 adults and my 2 kids, 4.5 and 2.5. I wondered if we would need 3 or 4 meals to feed us all.

Thanks in advance and for sharing your reviews!

Enjoyed reading your reviews ~ Thanx for sharing.

Cosmic rays:
WEll I think how hungry you are and how big of eaters you guys are. My inlaws shared one meal and they are not big eaters and they had food left over.
Of you eat breakfast and are having either an afternoon snack or early dinner I think five could share three meals but if you get three and see its not enough you can always get another one.

Pizza Planet.
It was me, hubby and two sons 7.5 and 5.5 and we had plenty of food. BUT I was not very hungry at all that day. I just really wanted the salads. So I had the salad and hubby and boys shared the pizza and there was more than enough. They are bigger than normal personal pan pizzas. About the size of a normal dinner plate. IF that helps any.

Thank you for your detailed report. Can you please describe what was in the wave cake? You've got me curious (and hungry!! :) ).

OH Man that is a hard one....the cake was so soft and warm and it has this creamy fudge chocolate type sauce that was warm also ooozing out of it. But it wasn't like a thick heavy fudge sauce or a chocolate syrup ice cream type topping. IT was so yummy. :goodvibes

Thank you so much for these great reviews. We absolutely love Chef Mickey's. The atmosphere is so festive and the characters are alot of fun and indeed very patient. I love the napkin twirling!

What a wonderful idea you had to give your counter service meals....I will most definitely do this if we happen to have any left over when we leave. It feels so good to do a good deed, especially in WDW.

Thanks for your great reviews-how nice of you to pay their meals! I bet you made their day! My husband and I also shared several CS meals-it's usually hot, we were tired and just didn't feel like eating much-if you get hungary later there's always those snack credits!

Great reviews, We are looking forward to trying Chef Mickeys on our next trip, as well as Chefs de France (hopefully we will have a better experience :confused3 ). From what I am planning we should have a lot of extra CS credits, hopefully we can spread some magic as well.

I do have one question
Did you feel your service was lacking at any of the TS restaurants because you were on the dining plan? I know a few have complained they felt that being on the DDP the wait staff was less attentive. What was your experience? TIA, Melissa

It was so nice of you to pay for those peoples meals it must have made their trip - it just goes to show Disney's like no place on earth! Right down to the guests!!! I hope someone does something as nice for you one day!

No I really didn't...at the Grand Floridian the waitress said "oh great that makes my job easier" and evey other place was just as nice.

I was never made to feel like they were put out or anything. Good luck
