dining reservations at universal - do i need them?

Hi there

i'm looking for some advice regarding dining reservations for our stay at universal please.

Now that i've made our arrangements for disney dining (phew!) we also have 4 days at universal to consider from July wednesday 9 - sunday 13th. We will be staying at the hard rock hotel and so was thinking of having breakfast at 'the kitchen'. Do i need to make early reservations for this, if so how soon. I have just tried today and the calendar says it is too far in advance. Does anyone have any knowledge of how far out the booking calendar becomes available.

I was also planning on reserving a breakfast table at the RPR on the sunday morning (13th) for the character dining. I imagine this is quite popular - will i need to book this far in advance?

Any help with dining reservations would be appreciated.

During really busy times, they definitely help but are not required like Disney ( not sure about the character dining).Dining ressies vary as to when they open up for booking.Unlike Disney ,universal does not own or operate alot of the dining venues, hence the varying times when ressies open up.Things like the kitchen are 60 days out IIRC

Thank you for the info. I will look to book around 60 days out i think.( not long now - yippee!) I'm a little concerned that with the Harry Potter expansion things will be crazy busy so dining could become more tricky for a while.

I think I would book them just to be on the safe side for July.
