Can you still add and remove a guest when you do online checkin for a restaurant?

Yes, when checking in via the app or online you specify your party size, allergy info, and special requests. In fact, the party size doesn't even default to what you're reserved... it's default zero. I've made a reservation for 2 and checked in with a party of 6. We waited a little bit more but otherwise had no issues or pushback.

Sometimes you can, sometimes you can’t. I’ve had the checkin page tell me “You can add 0 guests” as often as I’ve had it say “You can add 1 guest.” It all depends on the capacity of the restaurant at that time.

So I wouldn’t count on it. If you need to increase the number of guests on your ADR, keep trying to book a new ADR for the number you need (or round UP to the next even number, e.g. from 5 to 6, because the ADR system does not like odd numbers). And also look for an ADR for 1 or 2 around the same time.
