Here are my dining reports for the week I was gone. Some of the meals I was solo, and some I had with the whole group (7 people, 8 if you count the baby!).
Day 1 6/8/04
Lunch: Toluca Turkey Leg Co., MGM
I had a footlong. Split a bag of chips. I love this place, and it hit the spot for me. Love watching the people coming off RnR and ToT.
Dinner: Boma, AKL
We stayed at AKL the first night, and I really wanted to eat here after all the reviews I read. I was not disappointed.
We had Prime rib, spicy chicken, potatoes with afritude, mac -n-cheese, salad and pap. Liked everything but the pap, which tasted like someone poured water on the cotton plug you take out of your aspirin bottle. Also had curry chicken and corn soup, which was amazing! I also ordered the Pretoria Punch, which was fruit juices and rum. Yummy!
But dessert - oh, dessert. I got a few of the zebra domes and sat back down. My thoughts on them were this: "well, they look good, but they can't possibly be as good as the boards say they are." I am here to publicly admit, I am sorry for doubting you all. They were AMAZING!!!!!
6-9-04
Breakfast: Sandtrap at Bonnet Creek Golf Courses. My dad loves this place. All of us got the eggs over easy (yeah, we're original). I'm not a big breakfast eater, so it didn't thrill me, but it was good for what it was.
Lunch: Fulton's Crab House
Stopped here for some apps and drinks about 2pm. Sat in the Stone Crab Lounge and ordered spiked lemonade (yum!) and Corona. We had the fried rock shrimp and the portobella mushroom fries. We have voted that this was the best "meal" of the trip. Our server (Jennifer) was great, and very funny and relaxed. We sat there for an hour or two just resting and enjoying.
Dinner: California Grill
A huge disappointment. Because we had such a large party (8 with the baby) we were stuffed back in a corner, and the service took forever. The food was not really worth the price IMO, and the meal just really wasn't that enjoyable. We just didn't care for it. I have eaten there before and enjoyed it, so I don't know what was off about tonight.
6/10/04
Breakfast: bagels in the room
Lunch: Casey's at MK
More footlongs and chili dogs, yum! Good fries too!
Dinner: Hoop-De-Doo!
Food was good as always (fried chicken, ribs, corn, baked beans and strawberry shortcake), and the show was very good. What made this meal was how much my nephew enjoyed it (16 mo. old). A good time was had by all!
6/11/04
Breakfast: in room
Lunch/Dinner: Olivia's at OKW
We were all exhausted after a long golf day (I'm not even going to go there!) and since we were at OKW we picked here. It was about 4pm, and the place was mostly empty. The food was great! I had a club sandwich, Dad had wings and Mom had a salad sampler with chicken, tuna and egg salads on it. It was all very good and perfect for weary, hot, cranky travelers!
6/12/04
Breakfast: none
Lunch: Le Cellier in Canada
I had a teriyaki chicken sandwich and a bowl of the cheese soup. All of it was excellent, but I didn't care for the cheese soup. I wasn't expecting it to be so thick, I think. It seemed more like a nacho dip than a soup. But I dipped a few pretzel breads in it and all was well!
Dinner: Sassagoula Pizza Co.
I can categorically say, I have never had worse pizza in my life! I ate half a piece, we threw the rest away. Luckily the evening was saved by a pint of Haagen-Daaz chocolate ice cream!
I'll post the rest when I get some more time!
