Dining Recommendation

Hi! Although I have been reading the post for months, this is the first time I am posting. I will be traveling to Disneyland for a short, 2 day, visit and am having a hard time choosing a second dining location. We have a priority seating at Blue Bayou for lunch, which my DS10 and DD17 are excited about. I am debating between Goofy's Kitchen, Ariel's Grotto and Wine Country Trattoria for the second day. We are not necessarily looking for a character location, just really good food. Any suggestions?

First off.........if character dining isn't that important the second day, I'd go with Wine Country Trattoria. If it's a nice day, sit outside and watch the world go by in DCA.

if you are looking for good food, i would cross Ariel's off your list. we were not impressed with the food. while you certainly get a LOT of food, we went to see the princesses without having to stand in line at the princess fantasy faire.

goofy's food we rated pretty good, but we were there for breakfast. i'd look for someplace nice closer to the parks though if i were you.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I have noticed how friendly and inviting everyone on these boards are. It definitely has the Disney spirit!

I haven't been able to find the hours of the WCT. I have looked at the menu and noticed that the prices are very reasonable. I am concerned that they are only open for lunch? Or maybe I just haven't found the dinner menu??

Karin, on All Ears site (restaurants at a glance), it states that the WCT is open for lunch & dinner. It's casual dining, but good.

Next door to WCT is the Vinyard (i haven't eaten there - but heard it's good) which is more fine dining. Also nearby for fine dining is possibly the best restaurant in DLR, Napa Rose in the GCH. (this plebian visitor hasn't eaten at Napa either ) You can access this restaurant easily from DCA via the super secret GCH entrance and Napa Rose is literally steps from DCA's Griz Rapids if you're looking at a map.

If you haven't already done so, take a look at the sticky at the top of the Disneyland Thread that discusses restaurants. Lots of reviews and pictures of all the restaurants at DLR. (including many in DTD that we haven't discussed).

note - we ate at Naples in DTD last time & I loved it. Some reviewers don't think so highly of it though...the pizza was more of a gourmet type pizza so maybe it's an aquired taste?

(or maybe I was just REAL hungry ?)

www.allears.net, I would do Napa Rose(very cool) or Steakhouse 55 if your into meat. Just depends on your budget and the type of food you like.

I have had good luck at Ariel's but admit it has been some time.

WCT is very good, I have only had good meals there and find the prices very reasonable.

I have done Vineyard room but not since they switched away from the coursed menu. I have eaten there three times and sadly was never as impressed as the first time I ate there, neither was DH.

I have eaten at Napa Rose twice once for a standard meal and once for a coursed NYE event. I have to say though the food was wonderful the service was not good the first time but they definetly made it up the second time. I look forward to going back.

Goofy's was also very good.

Personally if you don't want to lose too much park time and want a good deal I say go with WCT.

I've eaten at WCT with DS10 and Napa Rose *without* DS10. Although he is very food savvy, I am sure he would enjoy WCT more. It is more lively. The food is better at Napa Rose, but WCT is a close second. Very good for Disney food (IMHO).

The cool thing about WCT is if you time your reservation just right you can watch the electric light parade from the balcony or walk right down stairs and see it. We did that with our son and it was awesome!

You know, on my last post I may have been confusing WCT with The Vineyard Room. I've eaten at whichever one is upstairs and more fancy. It was really wonderful and not stuffy--still very casual. I recommend that one with the ELP. Sorry for the confusion.

Upstairs is the Vineyard room which is higher end food. Overall we found the food pretty good. Like I said I have not been with the new menu so it might be even better then before.

Downstairs is WTC which has sandwhichs, salads, pasta and more simple but delicious food. I am now craving the veggy sandwhich on Pretzel bread, I think I will have to get one on Friday!

My family also enjoyed Ariel's, but I will admit that it was as much for the atmosphere as it was the food. My suggestion is that if your kids (being older) are not looking for the character interaction to skip it. It is pricey for what food you get, you pay for the entertainment.

We enjoyed the Riverbelle Terrace for a more casual fare...

Wow! Thanks for all of the great information. I think I have scrapped Goofy's Kitchen and Ariel's. But now I have added the Vineyard room as an option I wasn't aware you could see the Electrical Parade from the restaurnt. That might just win me over
