My son is super picky. How accommodating are table service Disney restaurants? Can you always get chicken nuggets or mac and cheese even if not on menu? Thanks in advance

If it's not on the menu I wouldn't count on it. There are a few exceptions, but for the most part I'd go through he menus and make sure there is something your kid will eat. They can usually do a variation of things on the menu, like noodles with butter instead of a sauce, etc.

esp at c/s, I would not look for them to be able have something not on menu. not sure how much they do their own cooking or just heating something already made up.

I should have been more specific. I was asking about table service restaurants.

As PP said, even at TS, if it's not something they already have on the menu, it's not very likely they will be able to make it for you. They will do things plain, with no sauce, with sauce on the side. You can sub out other sides that are on the menu (most of the time). But not all restaurants have nuggets or mac n cheese in their kitchens.

The only non-menu option that is available almost universally would be plain pasta. Any restaurant that has a pasta dish will normally serve a child plain pasta if requested but you will pay for a full meal. My kids were vegetarian for a time and at certain places this was the best we could do. Normally they would have veggies or fruit and a dessert served with the meal too.

I would choose your TS restaurants based on your son's needs and not just hope they will accommodate you. My DD is a vegetarian and was a fairly picky eater and I didn't choose restaurants that did not offer food that she would not eat. I learned my lesson when Prime Time would not make her a grilled cheese which I thought was pretty ubiquitous and easy to make.

That's what I was answering for. If it's not on the menu in some capacity I wouldn't count on them sending someone elsewhere to get it for you with the exception if Ohana who will go to Kona I believe.

Allears.net has menus you can look at to plan your meals around something your child will eat.

I've been able to get chicken nuggets (that weren't on the menu) at Liberty Tree Tavern, the Plaza, and Garden Grill.

I've also gotten large plates of French fries at Chef Mickey's.

One last question, since he is 12, will they let him still order off the kids menu if places have something he will eat? We are on the dining plan and he is listed as an adult. I am not worried about it not being cost effective since he is picky and I know we would be losing money/credits.

Sounds like a good option might be to pick several of the buffets. They all have lots of child friendly options, he can pick anything he chooses, and you may feel like you have gotten a better value. I have never seen a child starve at WDW.:)

Yes, he can still order off the kids menu in most TS restaurants with the exception of some of the independently owned Epcot restaurants. You can even pay out of pocket for those meals and save his TS credit for another meal like a buffet that will charge him as an adult. If he's a big eater you can also request an adult sized portion of a kids meal at many restaurants and they will charge you an adult price.

If you're not on the Dining Plan, usually yes. I've heard a few stories of people being told no, usually at the Hacienda de San Angel.

Thank you. Yes, he is a big eater and an adult portion of a kids menu item would be perfect!

I will check out some of the buffets, thank you. We are new to the dining plan so I need to learn how it all works!

if on the dining plan look at the buffets, even character meals, as anyone can get food from kids section.
