Dining Plan-Tipping-STRESS!!!

We were at the Yachtsman on 6/24 and when we seated I let the waiter know we had the dining plan. He asked to look at the card and gave a disappointing sye...like here's another. My DS and I never got refills on our Cokes. But he did fill us up on alot of water. I got the impression that it was a bother to him because we had the plan. With an attitude like that he would have never gotten his 18% directly from me............

When we were at O'hana's it was totally different.....our waiter was awesome and he got an additional tip.

One time I ate at a location which automatically added a service charge. I generally tip in a 10% to 20% range depending on the quality of the service. Based on the actions of the waiter, I was planning to tip less than 10%. I talked to the manager and asked him to cut back on the gratuity as the waiter did not deserve it, along with my explanation of why. Instead he just comped the meal.

I would never have thought of tipping 40% just because I was one person at a table for 2.

Lewisc...
I wasn't there, but I think in this poster's position I'd have played dumb. Asked the cashier to speak to the manager, and then be very contrite..."I asked if the tip was included and my server said it was, but then she seemed to be very unhappy and making fun of me...did I not get the whole picture ?" That way if the server is in fact a #$%&%, I'm sure it isn't the first time the manager has heard of it...if it is the first time, maybe the poster did take things the wrong way. I wouldn't have walked out of that restaurant w/o getting it cleared up. Why anyone is worried about the tip on the meal plan is beyond me...I posted earlier about the tax situation, I'm sure Disney has it coded where the servers are only being taxed once...and if not...hey, not my issue...that is for the servers to bring up, w/ their managers, not w/ me. If they are being taxed twice, and don't want to take care of it..again, not my issue. Do most of the servers even understand how it is being handled ? This is not meant as a dig against restaurant staff...I've had professional jobs where people did not understand how the pay worked...yesterday I walked a 55yo teacher through her summer school time sheet. Our school could have paid her half what she was owed by contract...she'd have never caught it.

:wave2: Hi, I'm new here and have a couple of questions in reference to the dining plan.

We are leaving for WDW in the new couple of weeks. How do we go about getting the dining plan and how much does it cost?

Any other information in reference to the dining plan would be much appreciated!

It's $35 per adult in the room per night plus $10 per child in the room per night age 9 or under.

It includes 1 sit down meal plus 1 counter service meal plus a 1 snack per person, per night of your stay You may use these at any time after you check in untill midnight the day you check out.

For the sit down.
Includes at a la carte places for each person including the kids
1 appetizer (note a soup or salad usually counts as this item)
1 entree
1 desert.
1 non-alcoholic non-specialty drink.
Or at a buffet, includes the buffet and drinks.
Tax
Tip

Kid's must order from the kid's menu. But if you go to a place where there isn't a kid's appetizer, they get an adult one, then the kid's entree, and kid's desert.

Note that some of the more expensive places will cost you two credits instead of one. These are
Narcoosees
Yachtsmans
Artist point
Jiko
California Grill.
There's a couple others.

At the counter this includes
Entree+side if no sides come with the entre, most places will let you order one. if a side comes with the entree, you then don't get to order another one.
Drink
Desert
Tax

For the snack you can get
bottled water
Mickey Ice Cream bar
Fruit
Etc.

some restrictions apply (staying on sight, must be purchasing a package ie buying your tix from Disney too. I almost forgot. If you want the AAA rate on a package, you'll have to book the package through AAA. You can't book thorugh Disney. It doesn't make much sense that you can get the AAA rate on a hotel only through Disney, but you have to book a package through AAA to get it. Probably an agreement AAA made with em.

Because you're so close to leaving time, if you don't already have your reservations made, You also may want to check with dining to make sure they have spots open somewhere you'd like to go before you buy the plan. After all, if you hate certain places and that's all they have spots open at, it's not worth your while.

When you're planning, you'll want to see what you're planning to do and whether you'll go over $25 per adult for your sit downs. ($50 at the ones that will cost you two credits) This is the whole key to whether it's gonna be worth it in a nutshell pretty much.
Hope that helps.

Cannot wait 4Disney,

Thank you SO much for taking the time to respond to my post! You were very much helpful.

I guess we are totally out of luck for taking advantage of the dining plan because we are staying at the Wyndham Palace Resort and Spa, which I do not believe is one of WDW's resorts.

My DH went thru Priceline and got the room for $92 per night, which I think is a good deal and will save us a whole bunch of money there atleast.

Again, I appreciate your response! :)

Sorry :(. The dining plan is not included at the Wyndham. Your DH may want to read up on bidding on Priceline over at www.biddingfortravel.com before he does it again. While $92 is better than rack rate, it's not a great price for the Wyndham. The Wyndham usually shows up in the low-mid $70's.

Oh heck, now I'm really bummed!

Are you able to tell me if it is atleast a "nice" hotel? I did call them myself and they were quoting me $179 to $241 (depending on room size with King beds).

I'd just like to add (since I haven't yet seen it mentioned) that servers usually are paid an hourly rate that is below minimum wage...tips ARE calculated as a necessary part of their income in order for them to meet the requirements for minimum wage. I usually tip 20% unless the service was not so good then it's 10-15%. In tourist areas, though, remember many international guests are accustomed to gratuities being added all the time, so the servers are often stiffed in those cases. I doubt that there are any millionaires out there that can say they made their fortune waiting tables.

Don't be bummed! It is a nice hotel and it's within walking distance of DTD. I had a very nice stay there a few years ago.

Hi,

I did not read al the post :cool1: but it shows the different tipping system at US and at Europe clear to me.
At Europe the tip (means the payment for the waiter) is included in the price of the meal and you only tip when the service was great. It it is just "okay" you might round up the bill (if it es 25,40€ you will give 26,00 €).
We mentioned a lot of great waiters here that were VERY glad to get around 5 or 10 € tip when the bill was around 50€ or 100€.
Even at DLRP when we were there with a partie of 6 and tipped 15€ with a bill of 135 € the waiter come after us and wanted to give us the change. I told her:no, its for you and she was very happy.
IMHO a tip, or an additional tip if the base is included should show the waiter how you liked there service..... and I dont care about there attitude if the service was weak and I dont want to tip that i have to wait till they search for the return cents :rotfl:
Keep i mind that YOU worked hard for the money you are going to spent.

Greets Renate :wizard:
