I was confused at AoA as to what I could pick for beverage, and what to pick for dessert. I knew I could order any entree with side, and get certain substitution sides, no problem. For drinks, a "manager" pointed me to multiple cold cases with all sorts of bottled drinks, and of course there were also the soda dispensers, hot coffee, cocoa, and iced/hot tea. Not allowed were hand-made espresso drinks; they would cost a snack credit. Also not included would be any alcoholic drink.
As for dessert, this same man pointed out to me a large case with pastries and cut/whole fruit. In addition, there were 2 or 3 cold cases with wrapped desserts, cheesecake, pie, cake and such. There may have even been a freezer case with iced treats, I don't remember. The selection was enormous. And I could choose any item I wanted. The AoA food court seems to be set up so that its offerings encompass the allowable items on the QS dining plan. You have to know some basics about the DP, like no alcohol and fancy drinks (milk shakes and espresso) which would not count for a beverage credit in a food court. (Note, there are certain TS restaurants that allow milkshakes as a beverage.)
