Dining Plan Question - 1st timer

First time to Disney and not a real big eater. I've read that the portions are very large at Disney, so I was wondering if you were allowed to share meals if you are using the dining plan?

and save the credits for either a signature meal or another TS meal during their vacation.

You might find that the main entree is not enough for 2 people so you might decide to order an extra appetizer and pay OOP but if you're a light eater, then you should be fine.
