Dining Plan and renting DVC points

We usually get the dining plan when we go (was free every time), but this time we are renting DVC points (not thru Disney - thru an owner). The reservation will be in our name.

I really like the idea that it is paid for (except tips at TS) and kids can get whatever snack they want (I won't cringe at the cost).

Does anyone know if / how we can get the dining plan?

You can get any dining plan you want, but since October 2010 here is how it has to be done:

The member you are renting from must call Member Services and add the plan to your reservation no later than 48 hours before your arrival.

You can't call them yourself because you are not a DVC member.

The downside is that the system has been changed from paying for the plan at arrival to paying for the plan when it is added to the reservation. Because only the member can call, the question arises as to how the renter will pay the member for the dining plan. This is something you will need to work out with the member you are renting from.

No you don't need tickets. The DVC owner can segment the reservation if you only want it for part of the stay.

The owner CAN segment the reservation, but the question is will they be willing to. As a DVC owner, I'm not sure I would go through that hassle for a renter.

The trick to segmenting the plan via a rental would likely be to lay out for the member exactly which days you want booked per segment and which segments you want a dining plan for, and ask ahead of time whether you are dealing with a member who is willing to book it this way for you.
