Hopefully if this has been asked someone will point me in the right direction since I am new to the forum. My parents and I are visiting the park in May. We were thinking of making a reservation either at the Ariel's Grotto, or Trattoria for dinner, but I was under the impression that we would be watching the WOC show while seated and eating our meals. From what my Mom and I have researched, it looks like we would eat and then have to stand in the preferred seating area for an hour, waiting for the show to start?

Am I correct on this? Has anyone done it, and felt it was worth doing the dinner, rather than just standing in your designated color area to view the show?

Thanks for reading :)

Yes, you are mostly correct - except when you mentioned "preferred seating". That does not exist. There is preferred standing.

With that said, the preferred standing viewing area offers the best views of the show - if you arrive early enough to get them. Otherwise it is not not worth it at all.

Our experience was we did the dinner and our meal finished probably 15 minutes before the show started. We walked down just to find them leading our line of people into the viewing area. This is a standing area, not seating. The views from here were good even though we were some of the last to show up. I would say that you get a good meal, and have less of a waiting time to see the show, also you can skip getting the FP earlier in the day.

Wow, I'm glad I saw this thread...I never would have imagined you needed a ticket to see WOC. I need to file this in my brain with Candlelight at WDW as a need ticket event!

Thank you all so much for posting in this thread! I'm learning so much!

Just so there is no confusion regarding tickets, yes everyone needs a fast pass style ticket to see the show. They are free and handed out starting at park opening. They hand them out until they're all gone. Alternative to that is one of two dining options: (1) lunch or (2) dinner. The lunch is just a standard ticket. The dinner gives you preferred viewing area. Outside of the meal options tickets are free, but without a ticket, you're out of luck viewing from the good area, and you'll be stuck in some side or back viewing area, which is definately NOT the way you should see it your first time out.
