Now that we are DVC members and have tables in wonderland.. we dont have the need to eat at disney every day I am looking for any good rest. outside disney that are kid friendly or even decent pizza or sub anything at all really that is reasonable. I am aware of buffalo wild wings that is a place we will usually go. I am looking for places less than 5 miles from disney. I know you are kind of trapped there by design. :) anyone know of any good places?

We tried Fuddruckers in May. All kinds of burgers and they have a guy making ballon animals and hats for the kids. My boy loved it!!! I don't remember exactly where it was but it was far. I remember we drive past DTD.

Our favourite off-site restaurant is Sweet Tomatoes. It's in the Crossroads plaza area (same place as Fudrucker's I believe, past DTD, at the end of the hotel boulevard). It's an all you can eat salad bar that also has a little pasta section, some soups, baked potato bar, etc. It's all healthy, made-on-site food and costs our family of 4 just over $40 for dinner (I think lunch is a bit less expensive) and that includes drink, dessert, and an all-you-can eat dinner.

Just down the road from there we also like Olive Garden and Joe's Crab Shack. There's also a sub place nearby -- we've been known to pick up subs and take them back to our hotel room on evenings where we're looking for something low key and less heavy than Disney meals.

Take 192 towards Rt.27 and on the right by a Publix there is Miller's Ale House, nice place not real expensive plenty of beers on tap( my favorite) and good food, my wife likes the potato soup served in a bread bowl. We used to like a place called the Mining Co. but it is now a Cici's.

For inexpensive & less than 5 miles -

There's a Miller's (named Orlando Ale House), in the Hotel Zone/Crossroads area. It's a Sports Bar with big section for dining (kids ok). Food is cheap, lots of it, & it's good. They have a special for lunches ($5 meals) & each night (cheap lobster dinner, cheap bbq ribs dinner, etc). Leaving DTD on Hotel Blvd, headed towards Crossroads; at light, don't go straight into Crossroads, turn Left onto 535; at light (1st or 2nd; not very far) with Olive Garden on right corner, turn Left - Orlando Ale House is 1st drive on Right.

If turn Right at Olive Garden, there is a Pizza Hut on the Left.

Instead of turning into OAHouse drive, turn Left into strip mall - there is a Subway.

Instead of turning at the Olive Garden road, go straight. Then turn Right at 1st light into strip mall & Fairfield Inn parking lot. There is a Steak & Shake that is a good one - good service, good food. Burger & fries for $4. Between 2-4pm, shakes are half price!

In Crossroads, there is a Taco Bell, Fridays, Red Lobster, Sweet Tomatoes, & others. Can get a sub at Goodings in Crossroads.

Golden Corral on 535 (turn Right instead of going into Crossroads & go under I4. 1st light, turn Left. 1st drive, turn Left.

Instead of turning off 535 for GC, go straight & Wendy's on right.

Or continue on 535 to Walmart for their subs.

Old Cracker Barrel on 192.

Krispie Kreams on 192.

Enjoy!

Two at Disney hit it perfectly and covered pretty much all the places near WDW and DTD that are worth going to. We love Joes Crab Shack and olive Garden. There is also a Pizzaria Uno (Chicago Style deep dish restaurant) just the other side of the DTD Hotel entry road near the McDonalds on 535. When we stay at POFQ, it is just a short drive to these places and so much more economical.

Giordano's is just outside the back gate of Downtown Disney or hotel plaza. Pizza was good and hot, prices were reasonable. Restaurant was better than most of the junk that is available on that street. S Apoka Vineland.

wow perfect just what I was looking for I didnt know there was a millers by disney awesome thanks everyone for your great suggestions!

Cici pizza is $5.99 all you can eat.

Giordano's
I don't find very "kid" friendly it takes 30 minutes to bake their pizza's and kids tend to get fiddigity

Another chain - August 2012 we went to the Romano's Macaroni Grill in Kissimmee and had a fabulous early dinner! It has a good kids' menu (lots to choose from) and they give you crayons to color on the paper table cloth. Good inexpensive house wine (I'm not a wine snob!). Good prices, very good food IMHO. I plan on going again soon!

We've had a great meal at the Outback near Harbour Lake - I forget where exactly but I can google it later for you. Very tasty steaks and a fraction of the Disney cost.

Matter of fact, we're staying off site our next trip, and looking at Disney prices even if I got TIW and an AP (planning another one or two trips, don't tell DH yet LOL) I can't stomach $40 plus for an entree that's $20 or much less nearby. Plus I do some cooking (simple things) as too many restaurant meals are just too much for me - can't eat that much!

I see you are staying at AKV. In that case there are closer Miller's and Sweet Tomatoes than the Crossroads Locations. Take Sherbeth road out to 192. Take a right. Go maybe a mile. Sweet Tomatoes is in the Super Target Plaza on the left, Miller's is on the right. There's lots of other restaurants down in that area too. (Chevy's Texas Road House, Olive Garden and more). See map below. (See the Target pharmacy?) I turn on Black Lake Road. It's a service road that runs with the main road, but without the traffic.
