Hi folks --

Working on planning our fall trip to DL and we've hit a bump. DS was recently diagnosed as allergic to milk and eggs (oh joy). This makes dining out quite difficult. We're staying at the Residence Inn Maingate, so we'll be able to do some meals there, but we'd like to eat out a couple of times and maybe get a snack or two in the parks. So, here are my questions:

1) Is there a general number for the DL resort to get dining information? The WDW-dine number is where I get all my allergy info at WDW and I'm hoping DL has some kind of equivalent.

2) Is there a map that shows what national chain restaurants are nearby?

3) Is there a large grocery store or health food store nearby (a Whole Foods or Wild Oats Market would be ideal)?

Thanks!

Call up dining reservations, they can help you with any allergic needs. Any table service restaurant will be glad to discuss what you can and can not eat. I am not sure what counter service can do for you.

I just wanted to add that I called Disney Dining with questions about my DH's restricted diet (really low fat.) They gave me the phone numbers for the two head chefs (one for each park), so I called and left a message first for the DL chef, explaining I had questions relating to what my DH would be able to eat.

The DL chef called my back (I think it was within 24 hours) and we had a lengthy conversation on the subject. He not only gave me information on which menu items were vey low fat, but also suggestions on what other items for sale he could snack on, and advised me that if DH wanted a particular menu item prepared in a low-fat way, to just give them notice and they would absolutely make it that way. I never did call the other chef, as it sounded like there were several options available for DH.

DH's fear that he was going to be eating lettuce all day long was unfounded. As it turned out, there was plenty for DH to eat, with salads, and poultry sandwiches at almost every location. There was even a fruit plate at a couple, which was very nice! He didn't bother calling ahead to have a special dish made or anything, though the chef had made it clear that would be no problem.

So call and ask questions, they are very sensitive to the subject of allergies and other dietary needs, and welcome the chance to make sure you have a spectacular, worry-free time!
