We plan on going to WDW next February (2018). We are a family of 3 and our son will be 7 by the time we visit. It will be his second trip, the first being when he was 5. Last time, we did a character dinner, but none of us have ever done one of the dining events before with tickets to special seating for fireworks or anything. I would love to hear what you think the best one is and why. Thanks!!!

I don't think ANY of those things are necessary or will make or break a trip (you can see all of those shows with no special package -- ROL being the possible exception), but given that you are taking your 7 year old son, I voted for the Star Wars dessert party. It's well-themed and the desserts are good and so is the show.

Please keep in mind that everything you listed is dessert only, except for the Fantasmic and ROL dining packages.

I voted for Fantasmic! We love the BD and would eat there anyway so I've found that is the best value. The only one however I would consider a "must-do" would be ROL if you really want to see the show.

For a 7 yr old boy, if he likes Star Wars I would do that.

Personally, I would outright nix Ferrytale Wishes (the fireworks are more spectacular inside the park), Illuminations dessert party (paying extra for a good spot is completely unnecessary) and Tiana's party (the parade viewing is not good). From there, I would decide which nighttime event appeals most to you and pick one. We did the MK Fireworks party with Plaza Garden viewing (which I recommend over the terrace viewing) and it was fantastic. We will not watch the MK fireworks again without booking this event. It makes it a leisurely evening with a great, uncrowded viewing spot. That being said, we are also doing the ROL dining package (to secure seats at the show!) and wouldn't do Star Wars without the party again (we had trouble seeing when we saw it last time). We aren't fans of Fantasmic. It's so outdated and terrified my DS when we saw it.

I completely agree! I haven't done the Star Wars but want to if they would hurry up and release the schedule.
