Dining disappointments?

I was NOT impressed with the 50s Prime Time Cafe either. My husband and I are not people who like being yelled or being told what to do (I get upset when someone yells at me, even if it is just a joke)! Everyone that talked about this cafe thought it was funny but we just aren't the type of people that would find someone telling you to go to the bathroom and wash your hands before you can even order. We actually tried to tell him that we already had and he then asked us what color was the soap. FOR PEOPLE WHO GO TO THIS RESTURANT, THE COLOR OF THE SOAP AT DISNEY IS BLUE REGARDLESS OF WHERE YOU ARE!

Also the food was not great! I know it's supose to be homestyle food but to pay as much as we did for fried chicken and green beans that have no flavor other than grease wasn't worth it!

Oh and we enjoyed the Coarl Reef. The food at the Coral Reef was a lot better than that at the Royal table in my opinion, but for people who don't like fish, it's not the place to go. I was hoping that there would be lobster or crab or a shellfish of some sort since I don't eat fish, but my only real option was Steak.

50's Primetime was a letdown. We have done Sci-Fi several times-we have always liked it-good burgers and onion rings. We also usually do lunch at Brown Derby for the cobb salads. This trip DH wanted to sub 50's for Sci-Fi. Last time we did 50's was on our honeymoon in 1995! I think he was really looking forward to it.

Well, the food was not all that great and the service took 3 hours! I'm not even kidding...3 hours from being sat...for lunch! That's NOT counting the 30 minutes we waited for the table.

We were on the deluxe dining plan, my in-laws were paying cash. The CM came with checks that were all messed up 3 times. The 3rd time we just paid it the way it was. It took up to 15 minutes both times she left with the check to "fix it." I just gave my in-laws cash to cover our bar drinks, appetizer, and one of our meals on their check as they were paying by credit card.

When we have eaten lunch at Sci-Fi and Brown Derby in the past, we are in and out in 1 1/2 hours tops, and it doesn't effect our park touring. The 50's meal on the other hand, did quite a number on our touring. My in-laws were so done with the 3 1/2 hour lunch, they just wanted to go back to their resort. It was a huge waste of time. If the food was great, at least I could say that was worth it...but it wasn't.

Like many of the other posts, we didn't think the food at San Angel was great...it was just okay each time we visited. We love Mexican food. The atmosphere was very good though. We're going to give it another chance in March.

Cinderella's Royal Table. It took forever for us to get the ressie and then the food was just horrible. It is so about dinner in the castle because the food was terrible. Very limited variety and for a 2 TS restaurant you can't even have wine with your dinner. It wasn't what we expected...

I posted our "disappointments" earlier, but have gone back and read all of the new postings. It just goes to show you how different people's tastes can be. While we hated the food and service at Boatwright's, Hollywood & Vine and Whispering Canyon Cafe (plus the food court at the Caribbean), a lot of people LOVE Hollywood & Vine and Whispering Canyon; while we love Pepper Market at the CSR, Mama Melrose and Crystal Palace and have nothing but outstanding service and food, a lot of other people hate it.

Only places we were sorely disappointed in:

LeCellier - just plain awful
Pecos Bill - all 4 of us threw our burgers away and ate someplace else
Cantina San Angel - 2 steps down from Taco Bell. Gross!

Our worst meal by far the Rain forest cafe (A.K) YUCK!! Very close second was Hollywood and Vine.. TERRIBLE! To be fair my hubby enjoyed his meal.. but he will eat nearly anything! LOL But booking a fantasmic package after we saw the crowds.. worth every inedible bite!

Jeez I should have kept my ressie for San Angel! I am now curious to know how bad this place really is. Darn darn darn.

We were only disappointed in LeCellier and Pecos Bills.
At LeCellier, the food was really subpar. I mean, way below an Outback or any average steakhouse.
At Pecos Bills the burgers were just very dry- maybe overcooked. We couldn't even choke them down.

All of the other restaurants were fantastic.

I think one of the reasons that many people rate this place so lowly is that it is not the typical Tex/Mex that most people are use to. It is more realistic to the flavors of Mexico. I didn't find this place to be great, but I did enjoy it and would say that it was average. It was definately not my worst dining experience in WDW.

Now I will admit that some of you have me worried about Le Cellier. I could not get close to this place in August and I have made an adr for this place for our visit in January.

Boma was our biggest disappointment. And DH is one of those who eat and like everything. I only liked the couscous, corn bread and zebra domes. I would rather go to Morocco for cheaper and better couscous. DH's favorite was Chef Mickey's.:goodvibes

Personally, I was very disappointed. I know that everyone has different tastes & some people will probably return here every trip, but I won't be one of them. My chicken was undercooked and the food for the rest of the family was very blah. The tables were really crammed together & I had a tray behind my chair the whole meal so they could bus the other tables. It just wasn't a great experience.

We also tried Tony's on 11/16 - the only ADR we could get before MVMCP began. I will never eat there again. The spaghetti sauce tasted more like ketchup & the meatballs were hard in places, mushy in others. DH liked his chicken parm but left the spaghetti side uneaten. The bread that came with dinner was stale & cold, like it was stored in refrigerator. Altogether a pretty gross meal.

Everything else was great, even our burgers from Pecos Bills.

We loved 'Ohana. Good service and food was plentiful and well prepared. I loved the potatoes
The Potatoes are gone at 'Ohana's and replaced with Asian noodles, yuck.

We had excellent service at "Ohana's, but it took forever to get any food. Our waiter kept telling us to pace ourselves. How were we suppose to pace ourselves, when we didn't have any food. We sat 20 minutes with our bread, then our salad. I think 15 minutes later, he brought out sauces, and I didn't know why, we had nothing to use them for. 15 minutes later, he brought out the chicken wings, and pot stickers-we weren't a fan of either, but we all tried a pot sticker and I only tried the chicken wing. Then he brought out the asian noodles and brocolli. We were waiting for the potato's and this is when I remember reading that the noodles replaced the potatoes.

We finally got some turkey, and was told the pork would be delayed. Shrimp came around in then, and about 15 minutes later the steak. The stead was so rare, I swear it was only seared, way to red and runny. Our waiter took it back, and the cook yelled at him. We were seated near the grill. I saw other waters take back the steak and the cook yelled at them too. Shrimp finally came, but the pork never showed up. We were never offered any more meat for the evening. We finally gave up after almost 2 hours. We had a adr at 9:00 and it was almost 11:00 when we left.

As someone said, the only edible thing was the bread pudding.

After we got our bill our waiter asked us why we didn't eat more, he said he took away so much food. Sure if you count the noodles, pot stickers, chicken wings and raw beef.

Oh, well, I can say, I had a pineapple drink as big as my head. I enjoyed that.

Wow - it's interesting to see alot of the same places repeated.

I can't say that I've eaten anywhere that I would never, ever go back or gotten sick at, but there are a few we just weren't crazy about:

1. San Angel

2. Liberty Tree Tavern (it was a most do every trip, but this last one there was definitely a difference).

3. Mama Melrose

For me, the worst meal that I have EVER had at Disney was at The Earl of Sandwich. We were on the deluxe dining plan. first of all, the fellow who took our order was joking around or something about what was included on the plan and told me it only included a sandwich and water. NOT. we got chips and drinks too. by the time we got our food I was all confused and irritated in this young mans messing with my head about what was included in the dining plan and what was not.

ok, we get our sandwiches. both DD and myself got the All American.
we both agree that these are the worst tasting sandwiches we have ever put into our mouths. :sad2:

The bread tasted like really bad over done biscuits that I would have thrown out. it was awful. we just took a couple of bites and tossed the rest. after being treated like we were stupid, and those nasty sandwiches, we left the The Earl of Sandwich with a really bad taste in our mouths and I mean that literally.

Coral Reef--a favorite on previous trips, this was a disappointment. The service was mediocre, as was the food....and we were seated about as far as you could get from the aquarium.

Whispering Canyon...the atmosphere was good, but the food wasn't.

I haven't eaten at CHH since they got rid of the bread bowl, and I haven't been back to Pinocchio's since they changed the Figaro fries.

The character breakfast at Cape May Cafe was a dissapointment as well. Most other table service restaurants I enjoy.

Tonys- Food was not good and the server was horrible to us. When we sat he asked if we had the dining plan, when we said yes his face immedietly changed. He was very friendly with his other tables and treated us like red headed step children. We had to get refils from another server and forget extra napkins or other things we asked our server for.

Tokyo Dining - we ate there last week after we were unable to get last-minute ressies at Teppan Edo. While waiting to be seated, we felt like cattle, it was incredible noisy, and the service was bad. Our meals arrived separately over a span of 15 minutes, the waitress never checked on us (we had to flag down what appeared to be a supervisor to get drink refills), and the food is better at Yakitori House.
We aren't eating out to merely to fill our stomachs, we like to enjoy the experience, and sadly, at WDW parks, it is no longer the kind of experience we are looking for.

P.S. We DID complain, to the manager, about our disappearing waitress and the fact that our food didn't arrive at the same time. She nodded sympathetically.

For us, I think the biggest disappointment was Boma. The food was ok, but it was extremely crowded. The staff, however, was top notch. I think the "disappointment" aspect comes from the great recommendations that it received prior to our visit. We are not complainers and will probably try it again, just not on the next trip.
