Dining as a party of 2

Is there a way to request NOT to share your table with strangers when you come as a party of 2? My husband and son are going to Baja in April and do not want to share their table. I have had this happen when I went with a friend to Baja and was surprised this was the procedure they follow. I would like to arrange for them to not have to share their dining experience if at all possible.

You can ask to have that preference noted on the reservation. It might not be possible however. Ask the head server if the request isn't granted and they may be able to change it for the rest of the cruise but that will depend on availability

You can add this request yourself via the app. Not guaranteed, but you can check when you get aboard at wherever they are doing dining changes and ask if your request was met. If not, they will offer to put you on a waitlist for a private table.

Pick second dining. Don’t cruise at a super busy time. Make the private table request in the app. Go to the dining changes area once you board the ship to check again. That is really all you can do!

As the others have said it’s just a request, have your husband go to the dining request area once they get onboard to verify.

And for him to be prepared that sometimes it simply cannot be done.

My experience with both phone request and request via the app/website are very different. I've done both, but only had the request granted on the phone request (>20 cruises) but when done via the app/website, always end up either sharing or having to re-jigger the seating. Again, my experience across 28 cruises

I’ve been lucky, going late dining I’ve gotten a private table. I always request online and then double check once I’m on board.

Thank you to everyone who has helped out on this thread. We always choose late dining anyways so it was already set to that. My DH did go ahead and get the table requested. Hopefully, they are granted their space bc otherwise I am certain that my introverted husband will be skipping dinner and eating room service.

I’ve had a private table for 2 and for 1 many times. Just ask when you make the reservation and if necessary ask your head server when you’re in the ship.

Yes, they do it when they can. BUT if it's a full sailing, there is a chance they can't. EVEN with second dining. I have gotten it a few times, but I've also NOT gotten it a couple of times.

You just need to be prepared and have a game plan for what you'll do if they can't honor it.

Noted, I'm 20 for 20 in getting the request honored so I guess I've been lucky.

When we did our B2B last year, they announced this on the app. "Sailing is full and there will be no private tables" - however, we were on the second leg of the B2B, so they did honor our request for a private table after all..but we were basically 6 inches from another group. So 100% believe it won't happen sometimes (at the height of summer on a popular sailing).

We've done late dining on all of our five previous cruises. We've done three cruises with our son and have always gotten a table to ourselves. On the two cruises that were just for my wife and me, we have also gotten private tables for two -- I'd like to think that one was hard for DCL to refuse as it was for our 20th wedding anniversary. Having said that, the two that were for my wife and myself were also post-Covid so attendance was down.
