We have reservations st the Port orleans Riverside via the shades of green for Feb. first thru the 11th. Now after reading the reviews on the board i'm alittle nervious about staying there.
Is it really that bad, i don't mind a small room but I do mind a dirty room and bad maid service. Should i change my reservations for 2 weeks earlier and hope i get the contemporary, or cancle and go to the all stars. I need a handy cap room ground floor. This will be my first time staying on property, any suggestions would be appreciated.is it worth the extra 33 dollars to stay at the CBR
instead. I'm Taking my 2 grandchildren, my daughter and both our husbands.
thanks

What rate are you getting at POR? CBR has VERY nice rooms and just had their food court refurbished a a new restaurant. If you are uneasy , I would switch (depending on how much you would be paying for CBR).

It has been 2 years since we stayed at POR but we loved it then. We like Magnolia Terrace best.:D Our room was not small nor dirty, very nice. The rooms are not as large as CR(stayed there early this summer) but are not small. Kids loved the pool, the Food court, and the boat ride to DTD. What rate are you paying? If we were bumped from CR to POR for that time we would be paying $101 which is MORE than we have paid with FL or overflow rates from SOG. You could call SOG and inquire about overflow rates to other resorts without telling them you hold a reservation already. Then you can decide. I would not pay $101 for it knowing I could get it for less with AP, FL or overflow(we have paid between $74-$99 plus tax for moderates). But we enjoyed our stays there. Great theming too:D !

We are paying $94 plus tax a night. I don't mind small rooms, but dirty rooms are what scare me. I am not sure where they are putting us at the POR. The paper they sent us didn't specify Magnolia bend or Aligator Bayou. I will also need a ground floor room b/c I am unable to climb steps. I will have my daughter call SoG and ask about an overflow rate. Then should we cancel and call back and ask for a reservation with an overflow rate or will they put us on a waitlist? Our dream vacation is turning into a nightmare.

I've stayed at POR three times, most recently two different stays in December, 2002. We had no problems at all. We were in Oak Manor the first time and Building 17 in AB the second. Both rooms were very clean, with no problems at all. We're going back this December for five more nights. We had a ground floor room the first two times we stayed, and were offered one the third time, but decided to take a second floor room because we'd never been upstairs!

HANNAMAE,

I wouldn't worry. Every resort gets some bad reviews now and then - even the flagship resort, the GF gets some knocks. As you see, POR is a fine resort that many people have been happy with and go back to.

Relax and enjoy!

Like I said, ours was NOT small nor dirty. We loved it so much we returned 2 months later.;) But this was 2 years ago. They are typical hotel room sizes. In fact the room felt bigger than at WL because of the way it is set up, one big room with bathroom in the back instead of a "foyer" area at entrance with bathroom by that. Everything was nice and almost new looking when we were there.
Anyway, because of your situation, your DD may be ok to call and explain that she got the note and might rather try an overflow resort and ask the rates. I am really not sure how she should approach it with them. But there are no waitlists for overflow. I am NOT sure that they are out yet for your timeframe. If not, hold on to what you have until they are released. Perhaps someone else knows when/if overflow is released.

We stayed at POR last year in September and didn't have any problem with the maid service or dirty rooms. We had to call housekeeping for an extra pillow and towels and they were delivered within the hour. We came from YC and were worried that we may be disappointed, but were not.

Don't worry - everything becomes magical when you're at Disney.

thank you all for your input. We called POR and the Shades of Green and I guess they didn't have their moring coffee yet because they were both very un friendly. I was just worried because like any other grandma I want it as close as it gets to perfect for them because who knows when we will do this again.
They told us there are no upgrades at POR , all are standard rooms, I shouldn't complain they did say they got my request for a refrig because of my diabetes., and handicap room because of my heart so i'm happy about that. thanks again for your help this is a great board.
thanks

My most recent trip staying onsite at WDW was to POR last Sept. I lived in FL and had been to WDW over 25+ times, but had never stayed onsite before. It took me moving to IN before I made a trip to an onsite resort. ;) (A year later I am now back in FL, but have caught the onsite bug and don't think I want to stay offsite any longer!!)

I had originally started out by wanting to stay at the CBR as I thought it had the "look" and "feel" I was going after, but unfortunately the CBR was closed at that time for a refurb. We decided to stay at POR instead. It was my second choose. I loved the Plantation look of the Mansions. I wasn't fussy with my requests. Only that the room be non-smoking and be in the Mansion section as opposed to AB (didn't and still don't really care for that rustic look). We were happily pleased when we arrived and were given a room in Magnolia Bend on the second floor. It was a corner room (so that means we had two windows, which I think made the room look a little larger) and was on the inside of the sort of "H" shape, so it wasn't facing the parking lot or anything. It faced a lovely little garden area with a fountain, and further down you could see the canal. The room was not "too" small and wasn't dirty at all. One morning we slept in a little and the maid came to the door early, so the next day we left our "do not disturb" sign out. When we left for the park we forgot to take it down, so when we returned we found this large bag full of toiletry supplies (towels, shampoo, toilet paper) hanging on our door.

All in all we were very happy with our stay at POR and I personally thought the grounds and buildings were extremely beautiful. We always saw groundskeepers out working to keep the area in perfect order. In fact we liked the hotel so much that we twice called down/went to the front desk to extend our stay by a few days. They were most helpful, and even though we were warned that we might have to move rooms (which we were willing to do), they called us back moments later to tell us that we could stay in our original room without moving. :)

The only thing that I found slightly disturbing about the Mansion section was the location of the rooms/parking lot. On the first evening when we arrived it was already dark outside and we had trouble determining where to park in order to get to our room, because we didn't know exactly where it was located. We ended up parking the car and getting out to walk around the building till we found our room (I don't think the wall signs directing you to room numbers are very explanatory). We also did not enjoy eating in the Boatwright's restaurant, but that would not deter us from returning once again to POR. Although now that I have found the joy of staying onsite, I am eager to discover what some of the other resorts have to offer.

I love POR. I've had a handicapped room there-it's the first time I learned that not all HA rooms are on the first floor. This was the second floor of Parterre Place right by elevator. Had a HA room at ASMusic, didn't really like it-the outside corridors seemed much narrower than at POR. Nice view from the room at POR too!

I just had 2 friends/co-workers come back from POR. One was booked for them by me throught SoG. They were extremely happy with their rooms.

The second friend/co-worker booked the FTP, and then came to me in a quandry because it was booked for only 6 nights, not 7. She'd seen the "Disney Unwrapped" show on the Food Channel, and her son went nuts for everything that they showed. I ended up adding the night that they needed to their vacation (for an additional 8 cents (I wish I could use a cent sign instead).

Then she came back the next day to ask about Chef Mickey's. So I made a PS for them there. They also LOVED the hotel.

Don't fret.... if you don't like the room (wrong floor, dirty, whatever) call the desk and tell them that it's unacceptable. They'll fix you up.........

Good luck!!

I guess we will go and hope for the best. I have been reading more positive reviews so we feel better. Thanks for everyone's help:D
