Dilemma - should I stay or should I go?

So we're in the middle of selling our house and moving into a new condo. We close tomorrow and get access Friday but we won't move until July 1st. Our house is under contract, so no showings going on but there are inspections and appraisals, etc. Next Monday and Thursday I'm scheduled to sit over at the condo and wait for deliveries, supervise installs, etc. I work but once a month I'm on a graveyard shift where I work from about 10 pm to rougly 3 am. I do computer stuff so I work from home.

Okay, there's the background. Now the dilemma. DH works in the 911 services industry and they have a contract with Reedy Creek (Disney). He just found out last night that he is going to go down for a meeting next week! He'd fly out late Monday (a 4 pm flight) and come back late Wednesday (get home about 8 pm) -- do I want to come along? Well, normally I would absolutely jump at the chance as we're AP holders and the room is covered - we can get miles seats for my flight no problem. My dilemma is that we've got all this stuff going on AND I'm on my graveyard shifts.

So the question is: is it worth trying to move all the installs and deliveries on Monday to the morning, taking the laptop and staying up from midnight to 5 am every night doing my work for two days at WDW? We were just there in May and are going again in late October. My initial thought last night was no, but now I'm second guessing. Help!!!

I voted to go for it. After all, with everything that's going on right now, it sounds like you could use a vacation !

hate to be a downer, but have been in a similar situation and decided to not to push it. glad i did.

too much important stuff to reschedule and it is a stressfull enough process as it is.

I wouldn't. Your work schedule would preclude you from having a lot of fun during the day, plus it will keep your DH awake at night.

At first I was thinking why not? But then I read the graveyard shift problem. I don't know how much sleep you need to function on, but it doesn't sound like too much of a vacation for me. You would maybe get 2 half day's worth of travel and those frequent flyer miles could be used for another trip that you would be able to fully enjoy.

If you could easily rearrange your graveyard shift and do the computer work before or after your vacation then I would go. But if I had to work from 12 mn -5am on the computer I don't think I would ahve much fun- I'd be way too tired and FAR<FAR too tempted to blow it all off to ahve fun in the sun. So if you could drop everything and go freely then do so, but dragging work along when you are going in Oct just doesn't seem like fun to me.

I voted no. It doesn't sound like it would be much fun working on the laptop most of the night. Disney will always be there. This stuff sounds much more important at the moment. But I know how you feel, I love Disney too!

I'm also a 'No.' Some things are just more important than sneaking in an unplanned trip, and it sounds like you've already got your hands full.

Thanks for the input, everyone! I think you've all just helped me solidify my original response, which was no. I'm totally used to the graveyard shift and have no problem staying up, but it would definitely cut into time during the day that I could go have fun. Even if I cut the sleep schedule some, I still wouldn't be going anywhere until noon or later - and it would keep DH up since we won't be in our usual DVC one bedroom unit.

Oh well, I can wait until October!

Okay, guess what? DH's trip got postponed! Hopefully it'll get rescheduled at a more convenient time and I won't have to post a poll to decide whether to tag along
