I need help.... We currently have 4 rooms at SSR with AP discount (great deal, $279 knocked down to $164) for 6 days surrounding labor day weekend.

Problem is that we booked that simply to get some sort of room, since that is the only time all 9 of us are available to go and this is really last minute.

What we wanted was Coronado Springs with the meal plan.... French quarter was our second choice.

We're all adults and pretty much plan our days around "the big meal"... so the meal plan will save us money... considerable money... our estimate is that it will save us at least $500 per couple.

I check every day to see if rooms open up at CS or FQ. nothing yet.

Here's the delimma: CBR does have openings, and if I switched to that, then I could still switch to CS or FQ if they opened up, but I wouldn't be able to switch back to SRR with AP dscount. If nothing opened up, then I'd be stuck at CBR... The delimma is that I'm not sure I want CBR... CS was first choice because it seems like it would be the nicest and calmest of the 4 moderates, being designed for business conferences and conventions, remember we don't have any kids, so we don't need children's activities and theming. CBR was our last choice because it is huge and seems like it would be the noisiest.... FQ was second choice because it's small (and wife and I stayed there in 2001 and enjoyed it). Riverside, we're indifferent to, but we've stayed there before and wouldn't mind trying something different....

So I need help deciding if I'd be better off spending extra money to stay at SSP, or if everyone convinced me that CBR is not as bad as I imagine it to be.
If you had your choice between any of the moderates or SSP for $500 more, which would you choose - assuming you weren't bringing your children?

Thank you in advance. You guys are the ultimate source for Disney info.

At that SSR rate I personally would not budge. I just went through a ton of pics on a stuck thread on the mouscellaneous DVC board and the pics of SSR are so fabulous, along with all the other pics on that thread.

We are trying to decide between CSR and SSR now for June 08.

Have a great trip!

CBR is very quiet and tropical - it is like a vacation within a vacation. Definitely not a loud or noisy resort at all. If you want truly quiet you could even request to be in Trindad South, which is the furthest Village from Old Port Royale.

Have you had a chance to look at the CBR photos? Sooo relaxing :) Honestly, CBR is a nice place to be without children. Also, each village has a quiet pool, so no need to use the main themed pool. CBR is probably the last resort I would choose with young children - we stayed in a MK or EPCOT resort when the kids were young.

Funny, because due to all the conventions and crowds the times we visited CSR we vowed to never stay there! LOL

But the nice thing about Disney is that there is probably a resort to suit almost every guests needs. SSR does not appeal to us at all - it feel huge ans very spread out.

Hope you really enjoy whichever resort you choose! :) Have a great trip! :)

I've only stayed at FQ in the moderate category but I have stayed at SSR and did not like it at all. It just didn't have the "Disney feel" for me. Plus it's in the DTD area which is our least favorite part of WDW.

I would choose the moderate and save the $500. Have fun!!

I've never stayed at SSR so I don't have to much to say about it, other than it looks like a nice place but it so too close to DTD for me. I stayed at CSR and didn't like it. We were in Casita 3 and halfway between bus stop 1 and 2 and along way from the hot tub. I've never stayed at CBR and very unlikely to since it has no elevators. I've stayed at POFQ and loved it.

All that said, I'd save the $500. Just think how many souveniers you can buy with that.

unless you are moving to save additional money, I would keep SSR. It is so close to Downtown Disney which is very nice for an adult trip, the rooms are beautiful and they have new ultra plush bedding. Very comfortable.

My DH and I absolutely LOVED SSR when we stayed there in June! We wish we could go back there soon! And we stayed at CSR in May and liked SSR much better. With the AP rate (we had that too in June), it can't be beat!

I can't tell you about SSR until Saturday, but I can tell you about CBR and FQ. CBR is my favorite moderate, hands down (haven't done CS, don't really care to). It really is a vacation within a vacation with the atmosphere. I didn't care that much for FQ. Sure, it's easy to get around, but to me, it didn't have a magical feel.

I have not yet stayed at SSR so I can not comment on it directly. I have however stayed at OKW, BCV and soon BWV. I love the DVC resorts. For the rate you have, I definitely would keep SSR.
CBR is the only WDW Resort I refuse to return to. I haved my room there. There was nothing about the resort that I liked.
I have stayed at POFG and I would return in a minute. I loved the size, the layout and the theming.
Good Luck with your decision

If you got a good rate like that at a DVC resort I would suggest keeping it. It will spoil you for future trips.
I am OKW person, but been by SSR and suspect it is nice as well

I have stayed at both. Stay at SSR. I am three for three with major issues with the front desk at CSR. I only stay there if I have NO choice! LOL!

As a single adult CBR is my FAVORITE Mod. It is fairly spread out which means "less concentration" of screaming" LOL! There are nice quite pools at each village, hammocks on the beach etc. The rooms are larger and the resort was built when Disney was spending a bit more. My "standard view" rooms have never been FULL parking lot. (POR standard view rooms have ALWAYS been full parking lot) and I actually think there is MORE soundproofing then at CSR.

(Also, CSR conventions can be downright rowdy. I was there once when the "convention du jour" was a bunch of college kids.....)

9 adults...I would say keep SSR. Not only are you a walkway from DTD, but you have access to a kitchenette if you choose to use it. Granted the theming isn't "cute" or "exotic" but as a friend said, "how nice to return to your room and have a glass of wine (or a bowl of ice cream) and sit on your own couch or patio/balcony after a day at the park

CBR rooms are 340 sq ft
CSR rooms are 315 sq ft
SSR studios are 355 sq ft

Having dinner with my dad last night and we were talking about our upcoming family trip next summer. We are considering SSR or the family suites at ASMU. Both DH and Dad made the comment "just as long as we don't go back to CBR". I thought it was nice when we stayed there but the men in the family don't ever want to return. Like the other posters have said Disney has something for everyone.

I would definitely keep SSR with a rate like that, but a warning, it will spoil you, and may lead to buying DVC :goodvibes

I guess I never really get what people don't like about SSR. I was there with just my DH in January and I would return in a heartbeat. It has a very "upscale"feel to it as well as being very new and nicely appointed public areas. We also had excellent bus service. Never heard a sound from DTD, stayed in Springs sections, loved convenience to clubhouse, spa, pool, restaurants. And I did come back wanting to buy into DVC because of it all!

Staying at POLY and POR coming up and while I am certain they will both be nice, I'll probably be thinking about the relaxed feeling over at SSR!

Can Disney change your room only rate into a package w/dining or is that not a feasable thing money wise? Great rate btw, I'd just keep it and pay OOP food wise I think

as always, just my 2cents, others may be richer!

You mentioned you got an AP rate, have you looked at getting the DDE? I know there are theads with all the exact details but I believe it is $65 per year for AP holders and you get 20% off of meals (inc alcholic drinks) at most of the restaurants on property. It's good for a party of up to 10 I think. We got ours this summer and for a family of 4, "covered" the $65 in 2-3 days, the rest of the trip we saved a small fortune. That might make it easier to pass up the DDP.

I also have to say, we loved SSR. I wasn't sure I would, thought it was too far out..... It was the best vacation we've had. It was really nice being away from everything, but still able to get anywhere without a problem.
