Warning: Stupid question here...........from a new owner.......
:confused3

What do all of you do when you are at Disney with your cameras when you ride things like Rockn' Rollar Coaster?

I know it's in it's camera case.....but...........aren't you worried all that bumping around will damage it?

^ I'm taking my 30D next week and have a "backpack style" camera bag for it. I plan on putting it at my feet, with my feet through the straps.

(Or have someone hold onto it, if you're lucky enough to have that one person who doesn't like coasters. :) )

Notta stupid question. Everyone seems to have their own methods; here's mine:
I have a neoprene cover for the camera and lens (Canon 30D usually with 17-85 lens) which is padded; this protects against bumps and splashes. If I'm going on a really wet ride like Kali Rapids I put the camera (with the cover) in a Ziplock bag for the really wet parts.

And the most effective method is to go on a ride that another member of the party doesn't want to go on; then they hold the camera <g>.
HTH.

Camera case? My camera is in my hand with the strap wrapped around my wrist... twice! :)

Oh, yeah - deletedpenguin reminds (can't believe we posted at exact same time) me that maybe you don't want to actually take pictures on the ride; if that's the case I do what he does: take my backpack with camera snugly and safely stored and put it down low and hold it down.

I forgot to mention, I have the Lowepro Slingshot 100 that has a built in water "poncho" that folds out. VERY handy.

We did it again. :lmao:

Thanks for the advice!

I was just afraid all that bumping around would ruin the camera........but I've only owned it for 48 hours.;)

Ditto.

My camera rides all the rides with me, either in my hand or between my feet, with the strap wrapped around my arm or my leg.

I don't even have a camera case for carrying it around the parks. A camera is a $1000 paperweight if it's in a bag - mine rides on a strap or harness, ready to shoot at all times.

YA! It's not like you were planning to hold on.... Were you?????

I use the Lowepro Rezo 160

I can fit a Canon XT with the Canon 70-300 attached and close the top. While still fitting the Canon 28-135 and the 50m f1.8. Seperate pockets for batteries cleaning supplies and memory cards. And of course the pull over waterproof pouch.

Just have a reasonable amount of caution and you'll be fine... I carried mine on Big Thunder, Expedition Everest, Space Mt, etc, with no problems last trip. (RnRcoaster was closed so I didn't have it there!) For RnR, I'd probably have stowed it away if possible since it's so dark, but I had it out and shooting on the others (yes, including SM!)

i almost always have it on the ride. when i rode space mtn at tokyo, HK, and disneyland, i just put the body in the bag and the bag between my legs with the strap around one.

they do not let you carry anything on Raging Spirits, but they give you free lockers!! it's too bad that the fast passes for the ride are given out for the day so quickly :(

if i were riding kali or grizzly rapids, i'd just hold the camera and shoot pictures of the kids trying to get wet. if it survived a boat going under iguazu falls 4 times in buenos airies, the ride isn't even going to scare me.

Penguin,

I just got the Slingshot 100...I like the way it rides and carries all of my stuff. I am heading to DL for the first time with it...how do you like the bag?

Sorry, not attempting to highjack the thread.:)

I love the bag, it's easy to get stuff in and out of it and is comfortable to wear for longer periods, but alas, I'm outgrowing it. I'm thinking of selling it, as I just bought a Tamrac Adventure 9 ( http://www.tantronics.co.uk/acatalog/5549m_open_grey_240.jpg ). I haven't really decided though, I might keep it for days in which I'm not carrying a bunch of camera stuff/extras.

deletedpenguin-excellent choice on the backpack! Not that I'm biased-I've had an Adv9 for almost a year now. It's survived Africa, Alaska, Nevada, Florida and (insert danger riff here) Boston.

The cover I have is a "soft pouch" (D-PRO model) from Op-Tech.

I can move the front part of the cover to allow the lense to poke out, while the rest of the camera is sorta fairly protected. When I store the camera on a trip, it stays in the pouch in the Adv9 backpack. So far, so good.

Ritch, glad you like the pack, and hopefully it'll work out well for me as well. I still have the slingshot, but I'm thinking of bringing the adventure 9 to DLand next week. In your opinion, do you think that's overkill and that the Slingshot is better suited? I'll want to have my 30D, Sigma 24-70f/2.8 EX, Canon 70-200f/2.8L, and the 580ex flash, along with a few filters and thinking of throwing a jacket in the pack.

I guess my first thought would be that the Adv9 is "cooler"; if you have one you must know what you're doing <g>.

That said, and from what I know of your stuff, I think things would get cramped with the Slingshot. When "on assignment", I fit the camera (30D) with 17-85 lens, a backup (XT) another zoom (70-210) a couple primes (50, 28), lots of cards, battery packs, a charger, strap the tripod to the mounts on the bottom, put some food and a jacket in the top, a computer in the slot. It's pretty comfortable to lug around; but at Disney I leave the computer and charger in the room or car. Then I can take more snacks! I also have more room to put Disney stuff (just can't visit without picking up something). I'm talking Disney World here, so when I leave the room I usually don't return until bedtime. At DL everything is alot closer (usually stay at DL Hotel or Paradise Pier, maybe across Katella (King's Court?)) so maybe I wouldn't feel the need for the large pack. But as I don't have a small one anymore, I'd probably bring the Adv9 pack anyway.

Count me as another vote for keep it in your hands. You might get a good shot in the waiting area. Maybe you'll get stuck and they'll put the lights on. You never know, so always be ready.
