Caitsmama: I do have a DSLR, but I'm new to it and still learning. Half the time I screw it up. I'll remember to give ISO priority this time though. Maybe that's the ticket. Do you change your metering to spot or focus to center weight or do anything like that??
.

LOL I have NO IDEA what any of that means!!!! :lmao: :lmao: So, i guess no - i don't!! LOL Part of why i have never pushed the issue of getting a dlsr, is b/c i don't want to have to do to much thinking -- LOL Kids move so fast, that by the time i figured out what lens/settings to use, the moment will be gone!! :rotfl2: Maybe when my lil' one is older - and i have more me time to play......

and, to make matters worse -- whatever Jessica was just talking about is like hearing Chinese to me!! ;)

Ohhhh.. Wen, i love those colors in that count lo!! Very cool!!

Melissa, that was nice to do that lo about your friend.

I finally got my download links for the Friday Flea market kit. The email was sent to the addressed associated with my Paypal account and not the one with my ScrapMatters account. I'm glad I checked my other account tonight.

Melissa - That happened to me, too. I can't believe I didn't think to check that email account until today. Glad to have those links now!

Jessica: I have a Nikon, but I checked and I have a P! Now I just have to remember what you said! LOL I tried using it in some low light situations in Disneyland Paris and shutter speed was too slow. Okay, it was the Pirates ride. BUT everyone in my boat was taking photos. I know, if everyone else jumped off a cliff, right! But they were. I certainly didn't take the first shot. I would never ruin the ride for someone else like that. They were also taking photos on It's a Small World. It was strange. My DH looked at me like I had two heads. :rotfl: I'm always that person saying something, you know, just loud enough for someone else to hear, IT SAYS NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY

Caitsmama: My DSLR still has a kid mode and a little runner mode to get those little rascals. You know you want one, come to the dark side....

Now, I love my camera. Don't get me wrong. I buy big purses for it to ride around in; I lugged its heavy self all over London and Paris. My shots are more clear and vibrant than with my old handheld. However, one thing it does do that is so strange is somehow it makes big buildings look like they are leaning over. Notre Dame, St. Paul's, all leaning like they are about to fall on me. Part of the problem is the streets are small and I can't get far enough away to get a good shot, so I'm taking the shot more up. My old P&S never had that wierd building falling on you look. Other than that and occastionally having the what the heck is going on moment I love it. My dream in life is to get fireworks and night parade shots. I feel like telling the people that are in front of me or pushing me in the parade route, even though I got there absurdly early to stake my spot, look, people, this is my dream, your camera phone is not going to get this shot I promise, I'll email you what I get, really I will, but if you don't move your large head out of my photo I will kill you with my bare hands on Main Street. :cutie: Now THAT'S the Disney spirit, isn't it!?! :rotfl:

Melissa and Pooh: Y'all are just going to love that kit. I'm so overwhelmed by it myself. I keep thinking, goodness, how am I ever going to use all that! It's very pretty though.

LOL Lauren, you crack me up. I take it you have the Nikon D40? That's what I use. Just now getting the manual stuff. Read "Understanding Exposure," it's a HUGE help. I forget what the trick is for the right perspective on buildings but if you go over the photography board you're sure to get a bunch of answers. I use PSP X2 and it has a function to help correct that. I've given up on low light pics until my poor self can afford a faster lens. In the house I'm pretty much on child mode since I'm chasing 2yr olds. I could go on and on talking pics, lol. Oh and they have an awesome thread about shooting fireworks over there, pretty much you need a tripod and remote. Though Jessica has successfully shot them hand held. We need her recipe.

Hey Wenrob! I actually have the D50 I bought used off ebay. My thinking was if I hated it I could probably sell it back on ebay and break mostly even. I love it though mostly. I've actually considered going to down when some of the photo people on the photo boards have talked about going down just so I can stand near them and see what they do. Is that stalking?? :rotfl: Jessica must have hands of steel! Or maybe she doesn't breathe. I could do that, I could not breathe. Whatever it takes, ya know! ;)

Cool! I have the D40, too. I still shoot on auto a lot, though.

I don't think I posted this one the other day. It actually won the template challenge over at SM! I was quite surprised. I didn't get it done until the last minute because I couldn't find the one photo of me with the Cup, but finally found the disc with it. Though in that picture, I'm not wearing my Yzerman jersey. :ssst: I couldn't find any with my Stevie jersey that I liked.

And here is the one from the speed scrap last night. I will probably go back and add some more flowers.

This was my entry for Britt's Scrap Olympics Triathalon Event. The shadows are kind of driving me nuts. When I flatten in photoshop, the shadows always become less, but with this LO, it was worse than normal. So I had to play with it more than I wanted, hopefully it's ok.

Since Wishes and Illuminations have so many bursts going off at once, there is actually quite a lot of light in the shots, so you don't need a really long exposure. I used the shutter speed priority mode (Tv on my Canon, not sure of the abbreviation on a Nikon) and set it to a shutter speed of 1/20 of a second, ISO 1600 and let the camera do the rest. And I had my f2.8 lens on the camera.
Here is a sample shot taken with these settings:

You can see more of them here If you hover over the picture and click the blue photo info button, you can see the settings used for each picture. It might help you and it might not!!

Jess, that is a BEAUTIFUL shot!!!!!! Great job!!!!!!

KSWM, very cute page!! I still gotta finish mine for that challenge! Great lo!

I agree. Jess, the firework shot is amazing. I can almost hear the little sizzle sounds! Awesome job!

Great layouts y'all! I LOVE looking at all these gorgeous layouts. They just keep getting better & better!

Question... do y'all flatten the psd before saving as a jpg? I've done it both ways and don't see a huge difference with PSE 6. I've been doing it lately because I've read to do it. Just wondering if it really makes a difference visually or if it just helps with file size, etc. I haven't researched, so I was just wondering if anyone here knew.

Hugs...

Still in awe of those pics Jessica, you're my hero!:lovestruc Now to convince hubby I need 2.8.....

Susan, I use PSP but I always flatten before saving as a jpg. Otherwise my shadows look all wonky.

kwsm and Melissa, gorgeous LO's as always. So lucky to hang out w/such talented ladies!

For those that just got their kit the one I downloaded had a corrupt file (I think it was pblsolid). I got an email saying that it was an issue and then a new file to replace the corrupt one.

So if you have not extracted and checked all the files you may want to. Just a heads up :)

Melissa congrats on winning!!!

There have been so many great layouts scrapped this week. You ladies are awesome!!

Here's one I did today for Britt's Olympics at SM:
