Thanks for the welcome! This is so much fun! I really think I like digital better than paper scrapbooking. Learning the program was a little hairy at first, but now I think I have it. I can't wait to learn more techniques as soon as I feel a little more comfortable.
Shay - It is so nice seeing new scrappers posting their layouts here. I have been scrapping for just over 6 months now and it is totally addictive. I love seeing all the layouts posted here. It has given me such inspiration... I loved your first two page layout. Your little boy is so cute in his costumes. I can't wait to see more layouts.

Comments and feedback are greatly appreciated. :)
This is a gorgeous layout. I love how you made the background of the picture blurry and b&w while your parents are in focus and color. Truely awesome!!!

This layout is so cute!!!! I love it!!! So are you Melissa or Melinda?

Thank you. I've done before with some wallpapers and thought it worked well here since the colors of the church didn't really match the dress or theme I was going for. ;)

It actually isn't that difficult to do. Just create two layers. Make the bottom black and white then use a gaussian blur on it. I think I used a strength of 10. Then use a mask on the top layer to delete the background. I like to use a mask to cut out layers because if you mess up something you can always go back easily and add it back in. I use Photoshop 7, but this general idea should work in the other programs.

Well my sister is the youngest in my family. ;) Though if you were to ask most of my family which one is which, they would be confused and probaly get it wrong. My own mother can't tell us apart. Everyone has gotten us mixed up our entire lives. I don't think my one Grandmother has ever known which one is which. And no, we aren't twins, there are 20 months between us. Everyone thinks we're twins especially now since we are adults and the same height and her hair has gotten darker. It was really bad when we were kids and our mother would dress us alike, though in those days her hair was really blond. My parents thought it would be fun and cute to give us similar names. Well it isn't!!! ;) :)

This layout is actually inspired by a layout I did in one of my traditional scrapbooks that was all about my friends who have made a difference in my life. During the course of making that book I found the quote in a book of quotes I got about friends and thought it was a perfect fit for this picture of my sister and I. I liked that page so much, I wanted to include it in my family book, but changed it just a bit.

I used a kit called Simply Clean by Melany Violette at Simply Clean Digi Scraps.

I love your layout! Making the subjects color and the background black and white really makes the layout pop!

Attached is my first digital layout while playing around with PE. Now that I have the general hang of it, I think I will love working in digital. I'm not sure I'll ever go all digitial, but wow is it fun and it's so less messy!

TFL!

This is your first layout! Holy cow!! BTW: cow was not my first thought but it's a family board. :cutie: That thing is totally cool. I just downloaded PE trial and also a book thing that's supposed to help me get the hang of it. Now, if I could just get people from work to stop calling me so I could get some me time in........ :rotfl:

Thanks for the encouragement! Here's one more I did using a freebie kit I found by JSprague called Echoes of Asia. It reminded me of Asia in Animal Kingdom and I found a picture that worked because it brings back such a good memory for me. The tag reads:

"You and I waited for the others to ride Expedition Everest a second time. You rode it once and I guess that was enough for you. You decided that posing for the camera was much more fun than a second encounter with
a Yeti. You always know what you want and express yourself so well."

This digi-scrapbooking is addictive. I must back away from the computer now.

Great LO. I just went and got that kit. Thanks for the tip! There's some really pretty things in there.

Thanks Lauren! I'm glad you found the kit. It is a very nice freebie!

Did you get a chance to play with Photoshop Elements yesterday? It's so addictive. I like that you can work on something without dragging stuff out. I think that's my hangup with paper scrapbooking. I don't work on my books unless I have time to deal with the mess.

Hope you have a great day. Thanks for the nice comments.

I actually did get started a little bit with Elements last night. Ahm, until 1:00 in the morning. :sad2: In my defense my husband was working late and I wouldn't have gotten any sleep anyway until he got home. Never mind that I'm dragging today! :rotfl: Oh, well. I just did some super basic stuff, dragging things around. So far I'm not good with sizing, knowing how big a picture and the things really are on the layout. Also, I'm so used to spreading all my paper out on the table in a big heap and then seeing what I like together, I'm having a hard time picking things to go together. That's why I like the idea of kits, at least for now. Y'all keep the faith for me that I'll make some headway, you know, after doing some real work and then maybe taking a nap! :rotfl2:

There are a lot of sites with free large kits. www.shabbyprincess.com has a LOT of large beautiful free kits. Then you can find things that match easily.

Do you have the link for the freebie Asia kit? It's a lovely color. I've been working on a brag book like a fiend, I can't believe how many I've done these past few days!

Great pages btw! :)

I don't have the link for the Asia kit because I just keep kind of googling around until I hit it. However, it was at the Creating Keepsakes website so that might get ya going.

Here's a question: I'm puttering away on my layout, popped my picture in and fiddled around with it to make it fit in the space. Now my sisters and I are all streched out funny sideways. How do you keep your picture nice looking for the layout? Did that make any kind of sense?? I guess the easier question is how do you handle your pictures for your layouts?

Thanks y'all!

!

Well, I barely know what I"m doing, but I've found that it's best to open your photo you want to use. Then right click on the thumbnail of it to create a duplicate copy. Then close your original without update so you don't have to worry about saving a modified version of the original by mistake. Then I select the photo which brings it up in edit mode. I crop the photo using ASPECT RATIO set to USE PHOTO RATIO. This keeps your photo in the same proportion as the original dimensions. Then you go back to your layout and pull the photo in. To make your image bigger or smaller and still keep this ratio, hold down ALT while adjusting the picture size. This will keep you from getting the photo out of ratio.

This is just what I've found to work. Maybe someone with more experience can add or make modifications to this. However, I thought this may help. To quote High School Musical ... "we're all in this together ..." (You can tell I have kids! LOL)

The main thing I've learned is to make duplicates of everything right off the bat so that you don't get to quick and save modifications to originals.

Have fun! I want to see your layout(s) when your done!

If you are stretching a photo to make it larger or smaller, hold down the SHIFT key while stretching it to maintain porportion. Or if you have your photo open, adjust the image size before you cut and paste into your layout. I don't have my Photoshop Open right now, but there is an option on the menu for resizing your image. You can do it by percent or by pixel size. Does that help and make sense?

I got some more non-Disney digital layouts done. The first three are from my Antietam book. I've been working on these for a while, but they weren't coming together. Tonight I must have been inspired, because I finished all three. YEAH! I think I only have like 2 layouts left to finish the book, though I still have to do all the writing for it, but that will require some more research. And none of these use any kits or embellishments.

First up is the Sunken Road Monuments:

Mansfield Ave Monuments (Page 1):

There will be another one that goes with this, but its not ready yet.

Burnside Bridge Monuments

This last layout is for my family book. This is one of my mother's favorite pictures of my sister. It was taken by one of my cousins at my Grandparent's house. Its funny to me because when we were growing up my sister was always described as "sweet" by everyone. She hates it now. So this layout also has a bit of an inside joke between her and I.

The background pinkish paper is from Fairie Freebie by Marcee Fairchild from DigibyDesign.com. The brown paper and other elements are from Neopolitan by Mollie Pepin at SwordaScrappin.

You have uploaded some glorious pages here girls - really stunning

I have some free digital elemenets on my blog - some distressed cardboard shapes but on there a dew days ago. Please snag them if they are any use to you - they are here
