Digital Camera ?

I'm thinking about buying a new Digital Camera Does anyone have any thoungts on the best one to buy.

Would like 5.0mg or higher
And a 8x or higher optical zoom


I've been looking at Minolta's

What do you think?

I love Minolta's focus system, I find it really fast- however I bought a Kodak a few months ago because there was an unacceptaple amount of lens distortion with the Minolta I looked at.

I like my Kodak, but am not thrilled with it. It is not good at adjusting for low light. My last digital camera was excellent. Maybe that is one of the things you lose with the higher zoom lenses- I don't know...

We own a Canon Digital Rebel that I use and my DW uses a Konica/Minolta Z3. Both have their good points. The Z3 is especially nice because of it's size.

I just bought a Kodak on our recent trip to WDW (I am now not allowed to ask to see anything in the display cases) but I LOVE this camera!!! It's a Kodak V550 and it's 5 megapixel. Very user friendly and it takes phenomenal pictures, much better than I got with my Canon in fact.

I will tell you that the Minolta's are amazing.

Just FYI, the Minolta Dimage's have some of the best lenses on the market.

If you are not wanting a complex camera you may want the Dimage Z5 but if you want a REALLY nice camera you can get the Dimage A200. The thing is amazing.

ISO from 50-800 is nice. Shutter speeds from 30 seconds to 1/1600 sec.

It's really a nice camera and I can tell you personally that it's worth every penny.

The Minolta's are known for having some of the best lenses with natural wide angle aspects.

NOT TO MENTION: The newer minolta Dimage's have anti-shake technology to allow you to have a steadier picture. It has a mechanism that keeps the lense from shaking when you are moving slightly.

My DH just bought a new Canon tonight, it's a PowerShot SD400, and a 5.0, and it's about the size of a deck of cards. He's just testing it out tonight but he likes what he sees so far. I have a Sony 5.1 cybershot that I've had for almost 2 years now, and it's awesome. The prints are excellent, it the video option- overall I'm really pleased with it.

I am partial to Nikon myself. I have a Coolpix 4300 point-and-shoot which takes fantastic photos. Don't care for the delay however. I now only use my Digital SLR, which is a 6.1MP, D50. I love it. Photos are amazing.

I'm on my third digital camera. LOL

My first one was an Olympus which I absolutely LOVED. It was only a 3mp, which when I bought it was good, but on a whim I upgraded to a Minolta Dimage (the model escapes me at the moment). I loved the speed at which it powered up, and the rapid fire shots are amazing. You really don't miss a moment with that camera. I've had problems with the flash and need to have it repaired, not sure what the problem is with it. This year when my sister and I were planning a trip to the World, just us and the two little ones (2 & 4) I decided something smaller and more compact would be better. I purchased a Casio Exilim EX-Z750 which is a teeny little thing that fits into my pocket and has a huge LCD screen. It's a 7mp which takes great pics in high light and good pics in low light. It's not good for things like fireworks, but most point and shoots aren't, so that's to be expected.

If you're looking for something small (which when you're going to the parks comes in handy), has great shot resolution, and is point and shoot easy, the Casio is sure to please. And the price was also pleasing.

I did a lot of research at Cnet.com before purchasing, they have a great site to not only help you find the most info available, but they also help you find the best prices.

The newer Dimage A200 has an incredible flash reload response.

however, remember that sometimes the actual time of shot reload (not flash) is based on your memory card.

Better cards have better processing speeds.

I have a Coolpix 5200, no idea who makes it. It does 8 trillion different things; I think it would send me to the moon I would bother to read that giant Owner's Manual, which I'm not about to do.

I put the card thingy in the slot where it fit, pressed the button, and ended up very happy with the pictures.
