Digital Camera Software

I want to buy photo software, such as Photo shop (??), but there are several to choose from and i haven't a clue.

Could someone advise the best one please, and rough price?

I swear by Paint Shop Pro by Jasc (Now owned by Corel)

It pretty much does everything that Photoshop does but is a fair bit cheaper (£50 - £80ish depending where you get it).

One thing to consider though, what exactly to you need to do with it?

If you just want something to crop photos, touch up the brightness/contrast and maybe remove some red-eye then you may find that paint Shop Pro is way overpowered for your needs.

I couldn't suggest a specific package but there are some programs out ther that are tailored specifically to these tasks and rvrn though they can't do anywhere near as much as Paint Shop Pro, what they can do they do very well and usually a lot easier as well.

Not sure if my waffling helped or confused you but one tries ones best...

I would go for either PhotoShop Elements or Paint Shop Pro

Both are quite cheap to buy.

To get the full blown PhotoShop you are looking at over £400 , but the Elements version will do everything you will ever need

If you say what you want to do then I can probably recommend a free piece of software.

IrfanView is mostly a picture viewer but can do some editing.

The Gimp (ignore the name) is a very powerful image editor.

There are many others, it's rare you need to pay for anything us geeks might be interested in as it's probably already out there for free.

Lastly, does your camera not have software with it?

I use Photoshop Elements which also comes with a good organiser to keep your photos in as well.
