Digital Camera Recommendations?

Leaving Friday and thinking of buying a digital camera before then. I've been researching it for awhile and we'd probably like a 3 or 4 MP, easy to handle and use (don't really want ultra-compact), and hopefully one that runs on AA batteries. Don't want to spend a fortune, but want a camera with great quality photos.
Anyone have recommendations?

Olympus C730. I love it. Easy to use . Takes pretty good pics as a point and shoot (on auto) and you can change the settings too.

Has a 10x optical zoom so that is wonderful.

Best of luck whatever you decide.

Canon A70 is a very nice camera BUT from the inrto to the piece at Deb's

First things first. Spending a ton of money on a new camera, digital, film, TV or otherwise, just before leaving for WDW will not, in all likelihood, result in better pictures. It can be expensive, very frustrating and can ruin what would otherwise be a good vacation. (Of course if you have been shooting Zurg at Space Ranger Spin, he thinks it serves you right.) If you get one get it in time to practice before you go to WDW. Otherwise spend the money eating at Jiko in AKL - Zurg's new favorite.

Hello Grumpy,
just think yourself lucky!

You're paying about 2/3rds of the price we have to pay in the U.K.

But there again I'm travelling to the U.S. soon and hope to take advantage, so I will view your your replys with interest.

N.b. I currently favour the Canon A80 on recent reveiws.

Try smiling.
Have a wonderfull holiday

I have the Kodak Easy Share DX6490 it is 4.0 MP and 10x digital zoom! I absolutely LOVE it!

I have the Kodak Easy Share and love it. Very easy to use.

We got my sister and BIL a Sony DSC-P92 5MP camera for their wedding gift (I have the older 4Mp version), the pictures that they got back from their honeymoon were nothing short of spectacular. I highly recommend this camera. It doesn't meet your AA battery requirement, but the Sony infolithiums last about 180 minutes on a 1 hour charge.

At this point I think I'll wait and research it a bit more and buy after we get back from WDW. I'm leaning toward either the Canon A 70 or 80 vs. a Kodak Easy Share.
We'll make do with the trusty Samsung 35 mm for this trip!

I have an older Olympus C700, and it's incredible; my daughter just bought the C740 and she's already in love. My son is probably going to buy one soon, now I have to convince myself to stay with my older one. I do love it.

Dittos on the Olympus. I don't have the 7XX series, but I do have its big brother C-2100UZ. Gotta love that 10X zoom! Also have a pocket (d-40) camera. Both take fantastic shots. (Or is it the photographer??:smooth: )

Agree with Zurg - wait and take time to learn the camera before you want to take "once-in-a-lifetime" pictures. Good luck whatever you do.

. . .and we had an awesome time at AKL and HRH! The weather was totally perfect and crowds not bad (except MK!!!!). I ended up using just my Kodak disposables this trip - hope the pics turn out OK!!
Back to researching digital cameras. . . .
Keep the suggestions coming!

We have a Nikon Coolpix 3500 and it is great. Easy to use and fairly compact; it has a swivel head for difficult shots. It does not have the AA batteries that you were looking for, though.

I have the Cannon A70 and can highly suggest this one or the A80 (it was not out when we bought our's). I have been so happy with this camera. It's our second digital, first was a Fuji. I also love the fact that it uses AA batteries. Never a need to recharge and they can always be found. Good luck as you decide.

Just bought the Canon A-70 -- yes, you can literally figure out how to use it right out of the box!! I had the batteries in, the flash card in, and had shot my first picture without ever opening the directions!

Great pictures, too!!

I got this one in November, and right from the start I was getting good pictures. I was a die-hard real film fan and DH convinced me to try digital.
There is still a roll of film in my 35mm from Halloween if that tells you anything.

How long do the batteries last in the Canon A70 or A80? Aren't they heavy because they have 4 batteries?

my Nikon 995 Cool Pix. Check BUY.com for pricing digital cams. If it's your first experience the simpler the better and those are genrally less expensive too. Have fun.

We just bought one--DX6440 model. Rigt out of the box we were getting grea pictures. This is an incredibly user friendly camera. It is a 4mpxl camera and even the 1 mpxl settig still takes great pictures. The camera dock makes it easy to transfer pictures to the computer and the software is also very user friendly. I too was a die hard film user but this has converted me!
