Hi All,

I have had an HP digital camera for ages, nothing special. But I did love it, and had the software and pic transfer down pat!

At my neices bday last night, I had put it in my grocery sack I had brought over with all my stuff, and guess what went out with the trash?

Yep. My grocery sack of stuff, including my camera. So, by the time I had realized it this morning, the trash men had already come and gone.

I am looking for a small, reliable, high megapixel (3-4) camera that you would recommend and have had experience with? Thanks so much!

Well, I am a big supporter of Canon digital cameras. I think there colors are amazing. I know man peopole are very happy with the "A" series of cameras. Easy to use, and lots of features in a small package. Check them out here:

Canon Digital

I have 2 Olympus models (2.1 MP & 5 MP) and think they put out great pictures with bright colors and the 5 MP is very small and compact with lots of features, the model is a C50.....Andy

We have the Canon A70 and love it. Easy to use, best pictures, hooks up directly to our computer and printer and we also got a separate Canon mini printer that travels nice. It was listed as the best camera for it's price range in all digital cameras when we got it.

I use the Canon S400. It has now been replaced with the S410 ($399) and S500 ($499) and they are both great cameras. I would HIGHLY recommend them.

They are small and portable, easy to use, and take EXCELLENT PICTURES. If you would like me to send you some examples I would be more than happy to of a recent WDW vacation.

Also I could provide you with some well known retailers to buy this specific camera at well below retail price....

I also have the Olympus Camedia C-50 -- love it.

I just purchased the Kodak7440 4.0 mp's and so far so good. It seems so easy to share, e-mail and transfer pictures.

I spent months researching which digital to buy before finally settling on one. I got the Kodak Easy Share 4.0 megapixels, model # DX6490. I am extremely happy with my purchase. I have had it for about 6 months. I am a huge scrapbooker so I was more concerned with the quality of the pictures than the ease in taking them. Well, this camera has both!!! The pictures come out crystal clear and it is a very easy camera to master. Good luck and happy shopping!!!

While not a camera expert, I'd recommend a camera with not only a high pixel density, but also a quick processing speed. Processing speed you may Wonder? This is the time between "pressing the button" and when the exposure is actually taken.

While this example has nothing to do with cruising, I attended my nephew's wedding and tried to take shots of the bridal party when they entered the reception. Yep, you guessed it, a few of the shots were blurred due to a slow processing speed. While cruising, you're shots of Capt. Mickey may be blurred because of ship movement, Mickey's movement, your children's movement....you get the picture. A quicker processing speed can counteract movement.

You may want to visit someplace like Circuit City where you can actually play with the cameras (toys) before you buy. Ask the Salesperson questions about the processing speed.

Again, I'm no expert, but having experience this first-hand I hope this information helps.

I have to agree with the previous poster about CANON's quality. I just got a Canon S60 (5 megapixel) for our upcoming trip. It is just AWESOME! The color and clarity are unbelievable. It offers automatic point and shoot features and room to grow into more "creative" modes.

One really neat thing Canon offers is a small (travel-size) printer which can be connected right to the camera or to your computer. The one I got was a Canon CP-200 and Target had it on clearance. The prints are just unbelievable! We're going to bring it with us on our cruise so we can print some shots right away. The prints have a postcard type back so if you wanted to drop them in the mail you could.

If you want to do some more research on different digital cameras, check out www.stevesdigicams.com. There is a WEALTH of information available and some really neat reviews. Two of the main things you have to decide on are how much Optical zoom you want and how many megapixels.

Also, once you decide on your camera, if you go to www.pricegrabbers.com, you can type in the camera name and it will bring up who offers the best price for it.

Good luck with your decision!
:)

Kelli,

I am so glad to read your report. That is the exact camera I am thinking of purchasing. It is the top rated on consumer reports.com So far Amazon.com has the best price for it. Do you have the printer dock that goes with it?

Robin

Robin,

I do have the printer dock, but it stinks!!!! Don't waste your money. The quality of the pictures it prints are so not up to my standards (or anyone elses probably!) I waited to long to try to return it so I am stuck with it. I never use it and I'm thinking of selling it on EBay. I guess it may come in useful if the kids need like a picture of their house to bring in to school orsomethinbg like that. In short, I definaltey would NOT reccommend purchasing the printer dock. I use OFoto and have been very happy with that service!!

Thanks Kelli! So do you just have the regular dock? I've used ofoto myself and was very pleased with their service and quality. I really appreciate your input and am glad I asked.

Robin

Does anyone want to comment on the quality of night (flash) pictures taken with their digital camera?

I love the outdoor or bright light shots my camera takes (minolta DX), but inside is lousy.

Thanks.

If your camera has an auto assist lamp, it can help for flash pictures. Although (and I'm not an expert) the flash generally only works up to 6-10 ft.

The best thing to do is read your manual and see what settings indoor pics should be taken at. There are some settings that will adjust for the dimness without using a flash.

If you're like me, you mostly use the auto point and shoot setting but you can really get some great pictures if you learn all the settings and features the camera has and use them correctly.

HTH.

If you're looking no more than 4MP, I highly recommend Canon A80 (now End-of-Line, making the price even lower, and will be replaced by A85).

If you want 5MP, you can get Canon A95

we just got a Sony cybershot DSC p92 5.0 mega pixel wondering if any one has this we are still trying to lear how to use it befor our next cruise and vacation to walt disney world and the polynesian... Mike
