Digital Camera: Memory Cards HELP

We are leaving two weeks from today...WOW!

I have my digital camera and a few memory cards. What I need to know is, if I need to is there a place on site that I can pop my memory card into and process the pictures? Or do I need to by anouther memory card?

I'm pretty sure that there is a camera place right as you enter the MK that can develope your digital camera pics. maybe someone else will know for sure or have experience with it. I remember reading about it on the thread that was featured on the DIS but I can't use the search to find it for you.

JMO, I think it would be MUCH less expensive to have an extra card with you. 128's and 256's are so very inexpensive today. Check www.buy.com and www.ecost.com for some great prices. Should be a lot less costly than a picture transfer at WDW.

I have to agree. I don't know what size cards you currently have (64, 128 or 256), but I would invest in a 256mb card. I currently have 2 128mb cards and with the camera on the best options, I get about 84 pictures on each. Before my trip, I'm going to get a 256. This way I know I have plenty of disk space to take plenty of pictures!

You can download pictures from your memory card onto a CD at the Kodak building in Epcot (the same building as JIYI) ... it wasn't particularly cheap though. I think it was $11.99 for the first 40 images and $5.99 for each additional CD.

Charge up a spare set of batteries if you need one to be able to do this, but one of the best ways to avoid needing a whole lot of memory is to make a point of continually ditching worthless or duplicate photos.

We use our time in ride lines to do this; reviewing the pics is fun and gives up something to do, and it is a good opportunity to free up space on your cards. If it's a photo of someone's thumb, or if junior had his eyes closes, delete it and make room for something better.

You might try using Pricegrabber.com to look up the best prices on the memory you need; it's a price-comparison engine, and it will calculate in shipping costs to your address before displaying the list of prices. It tells you whether that particular dealer charges sales tax, too.

I would not even bother investing in another memory card, when there are far better options out there. On ebay, you can buy a digital wallet for under $30, a portable hard drive that will hold over 2,000 pictures! Just empty your memory card, anywhere, it is portable and runs on batteries! It weight about 3 oz. Fits very snuggly in your camera bag too...

Don't like that kind? iOmega makes other models, as well as a few other companies. I carry my digital wallet everywhere and can save movies, pictures, etc., in it. Then when I come home a simple cable transfers everything to my computer... Painless! No memory card can beat at least 3Gb of memory for under $30!

Thanks for that information. They sure have dropped in price and this would be a far better option that toting that laptop with us.

I don't know what kind of camera you have, but, before you invest in a large memory card, find out what your camera's max. capacity for a memory card is. IE: My Nikon 950 has a max. of 256. My Nikon 5000 has a max. of 1G (oh, boy could I have fun with that.)

This website is great for finding the max. capacity for your camera.
Just use the drop down menu on the right hand side.

FYI, They are not the brightest or the fastest. I never thought I would take so many pictures (I have used my digitial twice at Disney now and shot more than double what I did with film).

They told me a 3 hour wait for the Download of my files, needless to say, I got roped into an expensive new card instead.

I bought new memory cards off ebay. Brand new, still sealed in original packing for 1/2 the price Walmart was selling them. I agree w/ ditching all the pics you don't need.

Gail, I have used a Minds at Work digital wallet for the last three years, and absolutely love it. I bought the smallest unit. It holds 3 Gb of memory (enough to hold over 2000 pics) and back then I paid $150 for it, a bargain! I see them now for a little over $20 on ebay.

Yes, the company went out of business being it a fact that it was not "Microsoft licensed" and got butchered like other small companies in recent years. However, they offer support still, and have a message board where owners get customer assistance.

If Minds@Work's fate does not convince anyone enough to buy a digital wallet, there are several other companies offering the same gizmo.

Again, it is a heck of a deal to get 3Gb of memory, portable even, for under $30!! Yes, you can delete images you don't like from your card and save space. But in my experience, I'd rather keep shooting in situations where things are happening fast or people are posing and not willing to stand until you pick and choose your images. With the digital wallet, you can pop in your camera's memory card even while taking a break or dining, then reinstall the memory card nice and empty, in your camera. Just seems a lot of time and space saved for the money!!

Yeah, I agree Last year, I took my SD memory card in and they looked at me funny. My dad got an SD camera this year so I'll probably borrow a couple of his cards for the trip *lol*

www.overstocked.com has pretty cheaps one too. they'll also pricematch anything. not only do they have Mem Cards, but a whole assortment of underpriced stuff. from bedding to electronics. EVERYONE should check it out

I've read your question and have another source for memory cards - Costco. I just bought a 256mb card for my digital camera and WHAT a savings it was - $64. For the 128MB card at Circuit City I paid $99.

You can even order them on line at www.costco.com. I'm sure Sam's Club and BJ's Wholesale have similar prices. Good Luck.
