Has anyone bought a digital camera for their young child? I have been look at things like "My 1st Digital Camera" and the Hello Kitty one for my DD but I would like to buy one that is not going to break on the first day of vacation and that still will take a decent picture...she loves to take pics but I just can't afford to have her film processed and get back 100 pics of the same thing...so I thought a digital would be good so I can erase any duplicates or bad pics...any advice would be appreciated...

Thanks,
Nicki

We too are looking for a digital camera for our daughter. I have seen the "kid" themed cameras and I think that we are going with a "real" digital that might last longer and isn't much more expensive. I think a 3.2 megapixel camera is enough and shouldn't be much more than 100.00. in fact buy.com has them as low as $69.00 with a nice Cannon for $129.00.

Watch the back Friday sales papers as they often have those on as a big sale item that day. I can not belive I am saying this but I too would buy the real one that would last. My mom and dad always insisted on quality not cuteness and my friends always got cute. BUT...We still have some of the items 30 years later. I tried to do that too unless DS was really wanting a particular item.

you could try ebay as well - I picked up a Canon ( used) for about $20 there. I expect when my 5 yr old DD eventually drops it I won't feel as bad as if she drops my 4 mp canon. Most kids just want the snap shot size pictures so we were not concerned with too many megapxels for her.

We paid a bit but bought a SONY that is waterproof and is built like it can take a beaten .We've had it for about 3 years now and it's been great DD12 now.only 2mp but for her thats fine .It's also angeled so it's easier for her to hold it came with rechargables AAA and a memory stick so she just carries a couple extra batts. as well.

I'm not ready to go the digital route with the kids yet because that would mean buying two digital cameras. Here's what we do whenever we travel. We buy them the throw away cameras. For this next trip we go on I will buy them two each. We will be gone for a week doing Disney and Universal. I tell them once their film is gone it's gone and when I develop it I only do single prints. For us it works and they are happy and when they drop it or lose it we don't get upset. This is a very affordable option for the kids. We were in California this summer with the kids and my DD lost her disposable camera. Think of how I would have felt had it been a disposable.

Just my 2 cents worth. I guess it comes down to how much you wanna spend and how old your child is. Have a great trip everyone.

I meant, Think of how I would have felt had it been a digital, not Disposable. OOPS!!

I saw those at Sears...they are really cute!! But, my dd LOVES to see the picture after she has taken it...this one doesn't have that ability. I have been looking for a digital camera for kids that has a photo viewing lens. If anyone knows of one (like a really cute pink one), please let me know....I would love to get her one for Christmas!!

TIA,

We bought our daughter a kodak easyshare camera when she was 4. It was $99 at Target. We made it so she can wear it around her neck while she uses it (in case it drops). It is lighweight and she loves it.

My sister and I were talking about getting my 4 year old niece a digital camera for Christmas. She has gotten on this kick where she wants to take pics but I'm afraid to just hand her over my own digital, and the throw away pics she takes never get developed.

We had a funny "sign of the times." We drove to Philly the night before our flight to Orlando and my sister had purchased the girls each a disposable Sponge Bob camera. They were in their car seats playing with the cameras and I heard my 4 yr old niece saying, "Let me see. Looks good, looks good." She said this every time she snapped a picture of something. She's so used to us using digital cameras that give you instant gratification that she kept flipping the disposable over and pretending that she was looking at an LCD of the shot. LOL She's definitely growing up in a different era than we did!!
