Hi, I just got boarding group 7 for our cruise. I have a permanent handicap placard at home. I can't see me standing, waiting for boarding to begin and then waiting for my number to be called. Are there options for someone like me that looks fine? I can't sit long and I can't stand for long so I will be up and down. I can see me losing my seat if I'm even lucky enough to get one. Are their designated seats at the port for handicap? Is there a special handicap boarding? This is the first time for me cruising with my condition so I never paid attention when I was fine. Thanks for your time and thoughts.

There are seats. Not enough for everyone. What is your PAT? One suggestion is to arrive around 12:30pm because they've been calling "open boarding" around then so basically check-in and board. Another option is to share your seat with someone else in your party -- they sit when you stand, they stand while you sit. Or to guarantee a seat when you need one, maybe bring one of those "cane seats" that folds to a cane and opens to a seat. They aren't allowed at the theme parks but to my knowledge it isn't prohibited onboard.

Unfortunately , I am using Disney transportation from MCO Hyatt to the port so I get there when I get there, lol. I did think about sharing a seat with my DD but that is IF I find one and we all know the limited seating they have! I was lucky enough to get a seat once in all my cruises, lol, but it wasn't an issue then. Thanks for your ideas.

I thought people using Disney transport got priority now. Maybe that's just for PAT. However, I would think boarding group 7 would be pretty early. I could be wrong though.

Who knows. It was so inconsistent last night. Seems like the PAT boarding groups were all scrambled up. I will go into that embarkation with an open mind that "I can do it".

From all that I've been reading lately, and some friends that we cruised with in August...people taking DCL transport seem to be ending up with fairly early arrival times and boarding. Hopefully, that's the case for you. If that's the case, snagging a seat should go okay. We got there around 11:30 and there were a few seats scattered here and there. I agree with others that asking a cast member for assistance and even a wheel chair just for waiting/boarding is a great idea. Then you'd have your own seat! Best of luck with it, I'm sure it will all go fine. Just don't be afraid to ask for what you need to be comfortable!

Thank you, Erica!

Ever consider a rollator with a padded seat?

My dad used one. And then I needed one for several years. They fold easily for storing under the bus or in your cabin. They are wonderful for balance/stability - and give you a seat whenever you just need it.

The dining rooms have a level entry available and space available for parking it. If you don’t need it at times, leave it in your room.

And if you have difficulty with the extremely low seating around the ship, they are at a more normal height for standing up.

Just because you use one every now and then won’t commit you to a life dependent on it. You may actually build strength / endurance by knowing you have a way to sit - and get out more. (I have since been able to donate mine.)
