"Different" music suggestions

I don't listen to the radio either because I don't want to hear 5 songs then 10 commercials. I find new music from a lot of different places. Sometimes I will hear a song on a show I am watching and look into it. If you go to Amazon and click on an album you like you will get a section at the bottom labeled "customers who bought this album also bought". I have found good music that way.

The best way I think though is by using Pandora. It blows away regular radio and uses algorithms to take music you like and suggest music you might. You can vote music up or down (think digg) which helps them make more accurate recommendations.

Couple of ideas for Paintnolish and anyone else seeking avenues for new music. You can listen to lots of commercial radio stations on-line. WXRT in Chicago is one, KBCO in Denver is another. You can also seek out non-commercial radio stations that stream like KXT in Dallas. I'm sure others will have some recommendations for stations in their area. Not all radio is the same old, same old (just a whole bunch of it).

If you like magazines, try Pastemagazine.com There specialty is the so-called Adult Alternative music. You can subscribe and download a sampler of music each month. They have plenty of other ways to sample new music too.
The mag is available on-line or as a hard copy.

Maybe a little too far out, but I'd recommend Natacha Atlas and B'z. Atlas fuses upbeat Arabic and Western styles and B'z is arguably one of the best Japanese rock bands (they're not heavy rock but have a variety of styles). Both are easy to find on YouTube, and on US iTunes although B'z only has like 6 songs there.

If I were at home I could probably come up with much more since I've listened to stuff from all over the world (a lot of Asian stuff mostly, though).
Not too far out at all! LOVED Natacha Atlas!

Again, thanks for all of the suggestions. I have looked at every single one. Sure, I could have been doing homework, but I really felt this was much more important.
