I am looking to rent points for a studio at BWV. What is the difference between a standard view and a preferred view? Is the view from the standard studio really horrible? or is it worth the amount of money I would save? Our daughter will be 2 at the time, so chances are good that my DH and I will spend some time on the balcony at night when she is sleeping. Any advice will be appreciated.

The views are not bad, but if you want a standard view studio, you will need to book right at the 11 month booking window, because standard views are booked very quickly.

We rented points from a DVC member for our trip in December and had a boardwalk view on the 4th floor. This was one of the highlights of our trip. Looking out over the boardwalk and being able to see Illuminations from our balcony was really great. We would definitely request a preferred view again. Have a great trip!

Lots of people renting a reservation from a DVC member want a standard view because these use fewer points and will ultimately cost the non-member less. Only about 20% of the total rooms are standard view. These go very quickly with members as a way to manage their points better. Any person renting a reservation from a member needs to get their request to the member very soon at the 11 month time if they seriously want the standard view.

The standard view rooms look out towards the parking lot and front drive.

thanks so much for the info. I think we will go with the preferred. I like to have a nice view!!!!

Note that the BW view is also a guarenteed view - same number of points as preferred, but you need to book it. It also books fast.

The preferred views are pool/garden views for the most part. Some of them overlook the theme pool, Luna Park, some overlook the quiet pool and community hall. Some overlook the canal to the Swan/Dolphin. It is possible to get a great Standard View view and a poor preferred view view. The extra points are no guarentee of a great view.

Also, if view is really important to you, Disney charges on DVC stays if you move rooms because you want a different view (or for any reason really). IF there is anything available to move you to (a big IF right there), you will be charged for a full cleaning - by policy even if you just peeked in the room and said "is there anything else?" You'll have somewhat more flexibility with a regular hotel stay then with renting points on this.
