Difference between preferred/standard view BWV?

We got a bad case of addonitis and are in the process of purchasing two 100 point SSR contracts. The paperwork got delayed and we called our guide to say we were nervous about getting the 2006 points in the system in time to bank. He tracked down our missing paperwork (never got handed over to Fed Ex) but had the points put into our account today. I called MS and was able to bank the 200 2006 points with no problem. I promptly used them to make a reservation for August 26 to 31 (DD wants to go to the Pirate and Princess Party). Tried for a one bedroom BCV - one night was not available and DH didn't want to move. Asked about BWV - one bedroom preferred view is available so I took it. When we decided to add on, I hadn't realized I would get the 2006 points so I had points to spare and wasn't concerned about the 6 extra points a night for the preferred view. Now we are kind of curious about what makes a preferred view. A view of the pool? The Boardwalk? Thanks.

Linda

There are three booking views at BWV - Standard & Preferred and Preferred guaranteed Boardwalk view. Standard views overlook the entrance driveway to BW. Regular preferred are pool/garden views and guaranteed boardkwalk is just that. Guaranteed Boardwalk view and regular preferred view cost the same number of points.

You most likely have preferred pool or garden view. You will have a view of either the main pool, the quiet pool or the lagoon going to MGM. Lower point standard view and preferred boardwalk view (which is the best view available) are difficult to get unless you are an owner using the 11 month window.

Thanks for the answers. I was curious. We're looking forward to our first stay. Usually we aren't in our room long enough to look at anything. But this is our first August trip and we are figuring it will be hot enough that we want to plan on spending time resting mid afternoon and maybe laying around by the pool.

PatsMom: We have a 1 bdrm garden/pool view BWV for Aug 22 - 25!
Had said I would never go in the summer, and am thinking it will be lots of indoor activities for us also.

We haven't stayed at BWV's either and are excited about staying somewhere new and different!

Some of the BWV preferred views, while they do have a view of a small canal/pond directly below the balcony and the canal going to MGM, also have a fairly large view (in fact the primary view) of the valet parking lot. We had a studio view just like this. These rooms are situated a few doors down the hall from rooms that are considered standard. So just wanted to give you a head's up. Our room was 4131, so this will give you an idea.

Originally all the rooms at BWV were the same with no view designation. IMO, the names they came up with when they created the standard view create unintended expectations. If you assume that the normal room without any special view is the preferred category and that the standard view are even worse from a view standpoint you'll be in the right mode for this. Basically, assume preferred view at BWV is any old room and that many of the units have no special view. It's no different than the incorrect thinking of the "quiet pools" as meaning to be quiet.

That's interesting Mia. I had thought all the rooms on that side of the hallway (facing driveway & parking) were standard view. Were your rooms all the way at the end of the hallway?

Hi Lisa,
Yep....I'd say it was about 4th from the end. I could see the canal and the TOT as well. I could see the TOT only if I stood out on the balcony and turned all the way to the right. It was nice to have a view of it, but the majority of the view was the valet parking lot.

Maria,

DH and I just returned from BWV (stayed the nights of 5/13 & 5/14) and we were also in Room 4131. We booked a Standard View Studio and this is what we got - are you saying this is actually a Preferred View? :confused3

I've stayed in 3123 twice and both times it was booked as a Standard View. Overlooked the Canal and like you, if we looked towards the right we could see TOT. Fireworks at night were great since to the left was the WS. We were quite happy with the room since it was a corner room and had a very large living area.

We just got back and had a standard view 2 bedroom lock off, room 3135 and 3133, all the way down the last room on the hallway. It had a view of the canal, Tower of terror and a pond and off through the trees the valet parking lot.

To me that view could be considered preferred. Maybe it isn't bwecause of the long walk to the room, I don't know.

My point is that unless you have a preferred BW view then anything else can be in play.

Good luck,

Mike

I think the standard views are the best deal around. You really can avoid the walk through the main entrance and back to your room. Use the side entrance, the bus stop is a very short walk and so is community hall, pool and the boardwalk.

Hi Deb....yep. That was our room and we booked as "preferred" and were placed there. You lucked out if you got it as standard points. I called MS and they put me on a 3 way call with the BWV lobby to confirm that I was indeed in a "preferred" room. I was looking to get some points refunded back into my account. But MS and BWV refused to do it saying I had a preferred room. This was in Aug 2003. So, maybe enough people complained about it and they reverted it to standard ? I didn't think they could do that though.
Glad u got charged only standard----I truly feel that's what it should be.

Yep! I just got back from 6 nights in a standard view 1 bedroom. Our room was the first one on the left down the right hallway off the elevators. It was incredibly close to everything we needed. The view was pretty bad, however. I always say I don't mind the view, but it would have been nice to take a mug of coffee out on the patio and see something besides the magical express bus, lol.

I'm glad for the lower point values.
