Can someone tell me the difference between Kona & Ohanas?

We have ADRs at Ohanas and I'm wondering if we need to make reservations at Kona if we want to stop in there for lunch or breakfast before hitting the parks, or when we come back to the Poly for our afternoon nap.

Can we just walk in to Kona or is this like every other restaurant on Disney Property, you must make reservations.....

Bottom line at WDW is that if you want to eat at a particular TS restaurant you should make an ADR. While it is true that you may be more likely to get a walk-up breakfast or lunch at Kona (because of the lack of characters), it is still a popular restaurant in its own right (we always have a breakfast there -- we prefer it over OHana's). The two menus are very different between the two restaurants -- you can check those out if you haven't already.

I prefer 'Ohana for breakfast and Kona for lunch. On my last trip I walked into Kona no problem for lunch. The portions were huge and the food was good. I like the lunch menu there much better than the dinner and the prices, like most places at WDW, are cheaper for lunch.

'Ohana isn't the best breakfast food wise but getting there about 25 minutes before sunrise and getting a windows table is worth it. There is nothing like watching the sun come up over MK while eating mediocre breakfast food. :thumbsup2

And 'Ohana--NOISE!!
Kona can get pretty crowded at breakfast (we eat there for breakfast every trip) and after last time walking up and having an HOUR wait, we'll now make reservations even for breakfast.

Kona is in our top 3 favorite restaurants on property. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner...you can not go wrong there. Yes. Make an ADR. I don't care what time of year it is at WDW it's always better to be on the safe side and make an ADR. You can always cancel it.

Thanks for everyones replies! :)

We're staying at the Poly, so I'm thinking we may just order room service since I've read we can get items from both the Kona menu and Ohana's menu.

Did I mention we'll be on our honeymoon?

Congratulations! I hope you have a wonderful honeymoon!! :lovestruc DH and I love the Polynesian -- we spent our 21st wedding anniversary at the Poly (in the Honeymoon Suite!!) ... it was just a few days in the Honeymoon Suite - shhh ... don't tell DH how much it cost! :scared1:

Anyway ... we have eaten at 'Ohana AND Kona. Although you aready got the gist of each restaurant from other posters both are nice or fun (or annoying) for different reasons. 'Ohana does tend to be a little more fun with children doing coconut races, some singers, etc .... We found the food plentiful and good. Amazingly we did not enjoy the grilled meats that much but there was plenty of other food! The atmosphere is very upbeat. Service can be a bit spotty but for us, not unbearable.

Kona, we love, love, love -- but I miss the filet. I even took my picky BIL to Kona and he liked it! The food is very good and service is spot on -- never less than excellant. The tables are a bit close together and the acoustics are HORRIBLE so this restaurant is very loud -- the only thing that always bothered me. Conversation can be a bit difficult!

Now the fancy drinks are always good! :thumbsup2 I can't remember what is on the room service menu -- but the wings from either restaurant are good!

I agree with others that an ADR is a must for less stress about eating --

We booked Ohana and were so excited after all the wonderful comments here about it. I had one extra night with nothing booked and asked which one to book. More people said Kona than anything else. I thought the Kona comments were right on. It was the best meal we had all trip. The food was superior to Ohana (we both had steak, me ribeye and dh teriyaki), and the service was superior at Kona. The atmosphere was nicer at Ohana but it was also more expensive which is why we tried it while on the DDP. We both left Ohana wishing we had booked Kona twice instead of trying Ohana. Of course, if we hadn't tried Ohana, we always would have wondered if we missed out. Especially after the manager at Kona told us Ohana was even better than Kona, (that was after we told him how we enjoyed Kona). Boy was he wrong!!!
