okay, so my friend is going with her family to WDW and they are leaving next week. this is her first time so i tried to help her and tell her everything i know. she is going down on business so her company is paying for one nite at a value resort(movies). I tried to convince her to spend the rest of her 7 day vacation at a value resort.....i failed. i felt bad 4 her cause i wanted her 2 have a good vacation(i think its much more magical staying onsite), but oh well her loss......So then yesterday she was braging 2 me about what a great deal on a room offsite. she got a 2 bedroom suite really close 2 WDW for a cheap price. Then just because she was braging and being annoying i commented on the fact that she won't get 2 take advantage of emh.....MY friend then replied "don't worry we will find away"...i told her that no sorry u wont because disney has made it so now it impossible....she then replied that they would go 2 emh the 1st nite when they were at allstars and then use the wristband for the rest of the stay :scared1: i was in complete shock!! i didnt know what 2 say...it really made me sad that she would even think of that....so the more i thought about it the more mad it made me. i tried 2 help her, she refused my advice, and now she is cheating 2 get the emh privildages...someone please tell me that disney has thought about this happening and they have wristbands w/ the date, or dif. colors for each day.. if she gets away w/ that i will be very upset

Well dont worry about being upset
They change the color and design every night exactly for this reason. Otherwise one would get the band and use it forever. Each and every night you have to get new band. And they CM know exactly what ones to look for and you must show it at exactly park closing time for you to get on that ride. So let her try but I highly doubt it will work. Disney has taken extraordinary steps to make this only available to guest staying on site.

If I remember rightly, the wristbands are colour coded and say which park. I seem to remember they had the date on as well. However, because the bands are like hospital bands, your friend wouldn't be able to re-use unless she continued to wear the wrist band (once it's been cut off, you can't re-use it) and then somebody would certainly notice if she had loads of wrist bands on.

If she's driving to the parks, just wait until she sees the $9 daily parking fee for offsite guests :)

If I were you, I'd just keep my advice to myself and look for a new, nice, honest friend.

Well, don't worry, she won't get away with it. She will also decide for herself whether staying offsite was a good choice. I do both, prefering offsite sometimes depending on who is going with us for the space, price, kitchen, and proximity. I am offsite right now, and am 2 miles from the entrance. I am in the park in 10-15 minutes depending on which park. During stays at coronado, Old Key West, and others, I would not be on the bus yet. Sometimes it is a 45 minute trip to parks or downtown disney including the waits and trips. Much faster to drive, and then I have my car and can leave quickly. Other times, the extra magic of staying onsite makes up for it, and I want the EMH.

I second this!

Just remember karma...if your friend attemps to be so dishonest at Disney World of all places, then she will get what's coming to her. I hope the CM's make an example of her and embarrass her when she attempts to enter attractions after the closing.

My friend went in December and she saw CMs letting people on rides during MVMCP with no wristbands. She asked the CM why they were allowed on the ride and the CM told her "It's Disney!" So your friend may get away with it. Just to add my exp, during the park clearing out for MVMC we had to show our bands once to ride Aladdin's Carpets.

When I did EMH at MGM last May, they checked each wristband. Since it was already dark, at ToT they used flashlights at the gate.

I have a feeling they must have gotten a lot of complaints b/c when we went there was a human wall of CM's you had to pass through at the mountains entrance and show bracelets as well as a 70% human wall across the bridge to future land.

Yep, because someone complains to a manager "hey, the only reason I stayed onsite was EMH, and now people who aren't staying onsite get the privledges and the lines are longer!"

Disney wants to keep their guests happy. But they want to keep the guests who pay them lots of money happier than the ones that don't.

If a park is having evening EMH - do we need to be in that park when it closes to get a wristband or are we able to come at any time during EMH and show our resort key and get in?

Thanks

We have entered after and receied a wristband at the gate with our key

The descriptions I've read simply say that you can't get a wristband more than 2 hours ahead of the evening EMH, so my guess would be that as long as there is room in the park, you can come in when you like.

I have to second, and third, what others have said about the changing of colors for the EMHs at the different parks. My dd flew home with a wrist adorned with 5 different color wristbands from the different nights she had been. She did look a bit strange. Now, they are all hanging on her wall, along with those from MVMCP from the past two years.
We also saw just about everyone having to hold up their arms to show their wristbands last summer. So, they are trying harder now. Hopefully your 'friend' will find she can't get away with this kind of behavior...then, when she gets home, if she chooses to tell you...you can just sit there, smiling on the inside.

last year when I was there--you had to show your bands before they would let you get in line to each ride--

as with the others--they change the bands to prevent abusing the system

I truly find this hard to believe. I have actually seen CMs turning people away without wristbands and parents using their crying kids to try and convince the CMs to let them in. It did not work, they left with the crying kids in tow. In fact one CM told my group that Disney has Supers at various locations making sure the CMs are in fact turning away guests without wristbands. If they don't they can lose their jobs.

When I was there in March I only tried to do EMH at Epcot, one night.
All they did was look at my room key- I was actually staying in the park with my cousin *who lives in Orlando* while our mom's went back to the hotel room to chat.
All they did was look at the card to see that the dates were valid and they gave us both a wrist band- even though he didn't have a key. I thought that was really, really strange- seeing as how I could have brought up a family of 8 with me and gotten them bands, too (I wouldn't- just stating that I could have.)

When I was just there in December the CM's had these little hand-held devices and they scanned every.single. room key- no one got by without their key being scanned and only if it made the right little "beep" did we get to go through to where more CM's were waiting with wristbands.
We did EMH once at Epcot, once at MK.
The design was the same but the colors were drastically different.
The band simply states "Extra Magic Hours" In block lettering.

I know that in May the CM's had that little hand held card reader and scanned all key cards before thay gave out the EMH band and CM's were looking at the wrist bands at all the rides and attractions we went to. I know that at Mickey's Philarmagic they had a family of 4 or 5 step out of line and were talking to them off to the side.

My DD did the same thing--we just got back a few days ago and is still wearing 4 or 5 different color bands. She is a stubborn 15yo, but must have really enjoyed the trip if she is still wearing them (although if you ask her she will say it was "OK")!

and to the original poster of the thread, DUring the trip Cast Members did check for the bands, and the room keys were scanned in order to receive the band.
