Diez (10) Noches Calientes en la Riviera Mexicana/17 de abril 2011 (4.17.11 Wonder!)

So I have this question for all you DCL vets. :chat: How do I know what is a good night to book a reservation for Palo, when I don't know what our restaurant rotation will be? I don't want to miss out on something great , like other fun dining or entertainment. And where do the kids eat since it is adults only? Thanks!

She can eat with the kids club at BBB; you can get her dinner at the BBB; order her room service; dinner at a quick service or you can take her to the dining room if your ressies are not at your normal dining time. Haven't been on DCL yet but I've been reading a lot. :thumbsup2

Can anyone think of anymore?

I'm a first-timer on our April cruise but I too have done lots of reading! :yay:

I thought the dining rotation starts over again after doing all three restaurants, so you would just pick a night maybe after the third day, and then you wouldn't have missed any of the three.

OMGosh! It's too funny! They showed The Giggling Marlin which I was just researching the location to see if it can be walked to from the tender dock. Although...we won't be there for the night life. ;) I want to hang JoJo upside down for a photo op. We'll probably eat lunch there or at Cabo Wabo which happens to be really close to each other.

They showed Cabo Dolphins. :woohoo: :woohoo: I had JoJo come in and see what it going to be like swimming with the dolphin...he was smiling from ear to ear. I'm so stoked he's into it now. :cloud9:

Zipline with Cabo Adventures looks like fun too.

I will e-mail a couple of great detailed maps for the website to Connie in a little while. :thumbsup2

BTW...if anyone caught the show...it could do without the T&A IMHO.

:offtopic: I found the pics of the GCH parkview from our room. I don't have any of the balcony.

You had a great room with a view. It's really changed since then. The Suites are finished, the Orange Stinger is different, Ariel's Adventure is well under way, as is Cars Land. Of course the pond has been transformed so it's not so pretty now.

As I was driving down Harbor this morning, I was trying to note the closest hotel options for anyone who wants ideas. There are 2 Desert Palms (Harbor or Katella), Ramada Plaza, Ramada Maingate, Castle Inn, 2 Best Westerns, Park Plaza, Fairfield Inn, and, of course, the favorites here, Candy Cane Inn and Howard Johnson. This gives you some ideas to look up for rates. :surfweb: These are ALL within walking distance of the main entrance.

Wow, awesome view! I booked a standard view but here's hoping for some pixie dust and an upgrade to parkview. :tink: Although then I might never want to leave the balcony, so I guess I'll be happy wherever the room is. :)

I know the view have changed a lot since then. I would like to stay in the DVC Villa once to check out the view after CarsLand is finished.

We only got the upgrade because I told the guy at the front desk that I had 3 foster children that I wanted to have a trip to remember. He did the upgrade for free. :thumbsup2 This past March I talked to one of the boys we took and he still thinks of that trip and has the autographbook with the pics he said he looks at quite often. :cloud9:

For you :thumbsup2 from our 2008 cruise. We love this sign, if I recall correctly I think we also took a picture in 2005.

Sandy, I didn't get that show, what are some of the highlights to look for in Cabo? What is the Giggling Marlin?!

When making Palo reservations you want to make sure that you either make them early or late so you don't miss the show of the evening. If you eat at 6 then you can see the late show or vise versa. DH does not like to miss the reg dining room with the girls. So we usually go to Palo at 6, then pick the girls up from the clubs and take them dinner. BC we go to both dinings (we usually do not even order anything but just enjoy the time with our girls and wait staff) then we always pick a night that does not have a main show. We will either do this on Pirate Night bc there is no show until 10:15 or on a variety night. I am fine missing a comedian or something but NOT the main stage shows. Those are our favorites.

You DD can eat in the clubs or you can feed her either pizza, from plutos or from topsiders (depending on time). There is also room service before heading out to Palo.

It used to be simple like that PLAPLAP, etc... but in recent times Disney has come up with some STRANGE combos! Since ours will be 10 nights I don't think we can bank on any set rotation until we get our KTTWC's. DCL however will tell you the themed nights before we leave. So we will know formal, semi-formal and pirate night before leaving.

Another good way of picking Palo is to look at the dining room menus posted on the boards. If you can't really find anything you like on a certain night then Palo might be a good option for that night.

So is Palo really that great? I've never done it because of the kids and I'm usually content with the food in the main dining rooms. What is it about Palo that blows you away?

I enjoy the brunch but I am not a big seafood fan. Brunch is mostly fancy egg dishes and seafood. It is still good if you don't eat those things bc there are always 1 or 2 other items to chose along with some good pizza.

The dinner also has great food. The filet is something that can be cut with a spoon. The desert is also really good if you like souffle.

The service is wonderful and the view at sunset is great.

DH always like to dine there in the private rooms with 12 other friends! :thumbsup2 If anyone is interested in doing either a group brunch or dinner let me know. We need a min of 12 people for either. Brunch is great in a good bc the waiter will basically bring one or 2 of everything and it is fun to taste everything!

I also wondered if we needed to eat there, because we'll enjoy everything else. But I just met someone else that just got back from a DCL and he also said we really should try it. I'd be interested in joining a group for the dining room. We'd prefer dinner. :grouphug:

I am getting so mixed up on how to even plan for this cruise. Like what night might be formal night and what night might be pirate night. When we ate a Palo's on our Western Caribbean, we picked formal night because we were not that interested in getting dressed to the 9's for formal night, we wore evening attire to Palos and sent DD to the clubs. We missed out on Luminere's for Formal night, but were there the next night for our normal rotation.

Luckily on a 10 night cruise we have more options. I am not sure how people even fit Palo's in during a 3 or 4 night cruise.

Is anyone doing the Tea at Palo's?

Laura

The Giggling Marlin is a bar & grill. Looks like a fun place for the family during the day to eat and take pictures of people hanging upside down. Night time looked a little raunchy to me. :rolleyes1 I think the same goes for Cabo Wabo. But I want to go to Cabo Wabo to get some tequila. :thumbsup2

They showed the Cabo Dolphins. Of course it looked fun...I LOVE swimming with dolphin. The pools look clear, the dolphins appear well kept and you can walk there from the tender dock. They also showed the Cabo Adventures where they had 8 different types of lines including ziplines and repelling. The rocky terrain with lines crossing the river are beautiful IMHO. I will keep it in mind for another trip.

About a week ago they had Manzanillo on but it focused on La Punta. A very beautiful and more well-to-do area of Manzanillo. There is a city tour I am considering that goes to the downtown area for shopping and it also takes you by Las Hadas and stops in La Punta.

I really didn't think there was going to be such beauty in Mexico. :confused3 It just makes me more excited to go and see it for myself.

Having a speciality cruise does make it hard to know what's what til it gets a lot closer. Like our 15nt Hawaiian Circle cruise, I am hoping that we can get tidbits from Disney along the way or someone that might know someone that works for Disney or DCL. ;) Personally...I don't get wanting to doing a 3 or 4 night cruise. There are so short and you can't relax AND do all the activities. Last Thanksgiving a friend did the land & sea package for their first WDW and first cruise, she never wants to cruise again. I tried to warn her that 3 days just wasn't enough. :confused3

With main dining I will be passing on Palo's afternoon tea.

9B (oceanview) is the lowest stateroom available today.

I am a seafood fan! Are we talking crab and lobster or shrimp and scallops? Would dinner have more of the crab and lobster? Then I think i would try dinner. If it's only shrimp and scallops, then I think I will pass...

I think it is more of what the chef want to cook and what he has fresh. I am not a shellfish eater, but I know there was lots of different types of fish on the menu and then while not seafood, it seems they always offer lamb.

I wonder if it differs between the Magic and Wonder? We have only been on the Magic so not sure how much different there is between the 2.

We sailed on the Magic 10 years apart and had the same waiter at Palo's and then when we had brunch the on the 2nd cruise we were assigned the same waiter again, but he slept in and was late to for our seating, but when he arrived he stopped by our table to see how things were going. I was pretty amazed that we got the same waiter after 10 years.

Lots of nice little touches that DCL does..:wizard:
