Diez (10) Noches Calientes en la Riviera Mexicana/17 de abril 2011 (4.17.11 Wonder!)

Hi everyone!

This will be my family's first cruise ever and we are SO happy we chose Disney to have it on!! I'm 44, DH is 38, DS will be 6 and DD is turning 4 ON the cruise on the 25th. This is a great link to get familiar with everyone that is going to be on our specific cruise! I would be happy to hear any suggestions and recommendations from any of you! We are sooo looking forward to this trip and i know the time will FLY by until 4/17! We will be doing 2 days in Disney Land prior to the cruise. We are coming from Alaska, so why not since we have to be in LAX anyway! I look forward to getting to know some of you and hopefully meeting up on the cruise!!

Mary

Welcome Mary and family. Our favorite place to cruise is Alaska. Where do you live?

welcome mary and family.you will love disney cruise line.Next year,we intend to go to alaska,on a dcl cruise.
true romance-thank you for adding me to the fish extender list.do you think, people will enjoy some port wine samples,my inlaws have a farm and they produce port wine, and some goodies for the kids.

Back from our Alaska cruise and catching up. Alaska was beautiful and we had a wonderful time. Now to focus on Mexico! Welcome all new cruisers!

Does anyone dress up for pirate night (meaning adults)? We have some KICKIN' Halloween outfits that could double up for the cruise!!
We did dress up the last two cruises - here's a pic of some of our crew (Sister, who's not on this cruise, DD, DS, DD) from 2008 MR. I'm not sure if we're going to dress up this time or not - probably depends upon space, I like the t-shirt idea.

Also, are there any other single parents on this cruise, and/or anyone who wants to share a meal or two at Palo? Thanks!!!
That's a great idea, I was traveling alone as a single parent on our Alaska cruise and I didn't make it to the specialty restraraunts. Count me in.

Gabriela, I think any of us would be thrilled with something from Portugal. Port wine from a family farm is amazing.

Who did you sail on to Alaska? What did you think of their itinerary and kids programing? I have done Alaska twice, once with Celebrity and once with Princess, pre-kids. I would love to take the kids in a couple of years, but I am not sure if it would be on DCL.

Is that a suite in your picture? It looks beautiful with all that wood. Love the pirate picture. I am going to keep looking for some cheap costumes after Halloween so we can dress up too.

I am really getting in the cruise mood. Just need to make it past these holidays. Then it is not stop getting ready for our trip for Jan-April.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome to this board! Kristi, yes please add us to the FE list! Thank you! It sounds like so much fun, we absolutely can not wait! I was joking with my husband last night that this has taken more planning and researching than our wedding!! :rotfl2: So glad you all enjoyed your cruises to AK. We live in Anchorage and love it here! It's been home to me since 1974 and obviously has grown leaps and bounds since then. Beautiful country and if you haven't visited yet, you really should! Do most people dress up for Pirate Night?!? Thanks for the continued tips and information!!

Hello everyone,

Finally checking in on the thread for our next cruise. We are a family of 4 (me 37, DH 39, DS 6 and DS 3) and will be hanging on the coat tails of our friends, Travelbee :)

We are definately in for the FE (my boys absolutely loved this on our last cruise) and all the dis meets.

My friend's family may be interested but it's too far in advance to plan for them. She hasn't even chime in on the Disboard yet. I think it sounds fun but DH thought otherwise. How far in advance do you need to book and what is their cancellation policy?

Yes, I know it's been a hectic summer and an even more intense early fall. I'll start looking more closely at the tour options but I'm sure the boys would be excited about an actual pirate ship. I'm also really interested in swimming with dolphins.

We did HAL, I was really excited for the itinerary because it included Glacier Bay and Sitka. Unfortunately due to weather we didn't make it to Sitka, but had extra hours in Victoria, which is beautiful. We loved Victoria so much we've been talking about a land vacation there.

Even though HAL isn't known for their kids programs, the kids LOVED the kids club, they also loved Celebrity's kids club when we did that to Hawaii a few years ago. I was trying to figure out why, and I think it has to do with our travel time, which is off season so there is very few kids, allowing the kids and the councilors to bond better. The Alaska cruise only had 35 kids onboard, which allowed them to be more flexible and allowed a lot of individual interactions.

Personally, I've decided it is impossible to compare cruiselines - they each do different things well.

Is that a suite in your picture? It looks beautiful with all that wood. Love the pirate picture.
Thanks, I really like the pic also. It's the Roy Disney suite on the Magic, and it was beautiful and better than that it was spacious. ;)

Hey, everyone! It's been a ridiculously busy few weeks (and no end in sight :scared1:) but I needed to come check in and get my cruise fix.

First of all, welcome to the new folks! I think it's gonna be a fun group! :goodvibes

Hi everyone,
I ended up having to cancel this cruise. Hope you all have fun and your weather is glorious for all 10 days of the MR trip!

All the best!

So sorry to hear that. I hope you get to start planning another one soon! :flower3:

...do you think, people will enjoy some port wine samples,my inlaws have a farm and they produce port wine, and some goodies for the kids.

I think that's a great idea. Anything unique from your country would be an awesome FE gift.

I am really starting to plan my FE's now. Also, I have read that other meets have done custom lanyards, is that something we are interested in?

http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=37650300&postcount=471

I like the group lanyard idea! :thumbsup2 That would make it easier to identify other DISers on the ship (I, for one, am terrible at remembering faces!)

Great outfits and what a room! Ah, someday..... We do pirate t-shirts as "costumes" too. Don't think I could talk DD and DH into the full gear - but I love to see how great others get dressed up. pirate:

Bye for now - better get back to all the things I really should be doing!

I too am lurking on this thread. As soon as school started, life got crazy. Still having to make do with less, but trying my best to hang on to this cruise. If I can hang on, I would absolutely LOVE port wine samples. I'm new to the world of wines and still have to explain why I want to start with the port wines! :goodvibes

Mary

Welcome Mary! I've added you to the roll call on our website.
http://april-17-2011-mexicanriviera.weebly.com/
If you'd like, send me a photo of your family and I'll upload it to the website. This way we can put a face to the name before the cruise!

I also updated the FE list based on Kristi's latest post (plus I added Helen to the list).

I have been lurking but have not posted for awhile. Is there still a website for this cruise. I had it, but can't locate it today!
A link to the website is above. If anyone has suggestions on what to add to the website, let me know!

I kept forgetting to send you the link to this thread so I'm glad you finally made it here! If you're really interested in swimming with dolphins, I really like the one at Cabo. It's located at the marina where the tender boat will be docked. It's the one we did with Renee & Larry.

BTW - heard from Melody yesterday. The Magic is in dry dock so she's enjoying free evenings and she's getting off the ship at the end of the month. So bummed that we won't have Igor or Melody on the ship this time.

I also agree it would be TOO COOL to have something from where you live. :thumbsup2

That sure looks like an awesome suite. Any chance you'll go with the suite again??? If you do we might be able to find out all the cruise details early. :thumbsup2 Just a thought...;)

So glad you found this thread.

OK, I really need to stay caught up! :scared: Well...with that said...Good Night...I'm exausted!! :upsidedow

The boys are going to be pirates for Halloween so we will be getting double duty with their costumes as they want to dress up for pirate night on the ship. DH and I are thinking about joining in on the fun as well.

Swimming with Dolphins in Cabo sounds good. Let's do it. I would also be interested in some horseback riding. Would you guys be up for that? I just want to pick 2-3 excursions top for this cruise. Is Melody still planning on comming out in November? It's a bummer we won't have Igor or Melody. Have you sailed the Wonder before? Do you remember any great staff?

I did consider it, but the Kids Sail Free didn't include suites, and money is tighter now then it was back then. I'll probably be thought nuts, but I had to turn down the Walt Suite for a January cruise, because it was just too close to our Alaska cruise to swing. I actually wasn't planning on cruising in 2011, but when they offered Kids Sail Free, I couldn't resist. I am hoping there will be an opportunity to upgrade at the port, but I'm not holding my breath and it doesn't help us determine schedule/details. sorry. :guilty:

Same here...I will check at port too. I can't justify spending another $8,000 for conceige this trip, but if the price is right at port. :confused3

Well...we made it!! Today is 27 years and we haven't killed each other yet. :lmao: :lmao: We will be celebrating our anniversary and one of our daughters (foster) 22nd birthday this week. She's the one that just got married in Aug and is also in her 4th yr of college. Can't believe how time flies and these kids grow up so fast. :sad2: :sad1: Have a great weekend everyone!!

BTW - I just asked the Jan PC cruiser if they can post their Navigators. Hope someone will. :goodvibes I'm going to try and keep tabs on their cruise to see when they find out their dining themes and such.

We bought out plane tickets!
It was looking for a while that we might need to cancel, but we are ON for sure now! Woo hoo!!!!
(our hospital is undergoing a major change to its software in April, and there is a time off freeze in effect, but we got the green light to go, so we are!!)

We will fly in to LAX on the 15th, and spend Saturday relaxing at a hotel near the airport and getting used to the time change.

We can't wait!
No shore excursions for us, we are going to enjoy the spa on the port days.

The early due date for the final payment is really messing with my head. Usually when you hit that mark the cruise feels like it is just around the corner, but we will still have 4 full months.

Yikes... what is the final payment due? I guess I was thinking it was still 75 days out and I wasn't worrying about it. :confused3

I better go look at my confirmation sheet to see.
